2001 Outback 3.0. Right side wheel bearing problem. First time replaced the bearing was about 5 years ago and used Subaru part. I got about 2 years out of that one. The next time I went with a bearing from Advance and that one lasted over 3 years. About 2 weeks ago I had another Advance bearing installed and I am getting noise out of this one after just 2 weeks of driving. Eveything was done at a shop and now the guy cant get me back in till next Wednesday to check it out. I did some reading and found Subaru had put out a bad right side steering knuckle on the 2001. Maby this is whats making the bearing go bad.Has anyone else had this problem with bearings and does Subaru replace these bad steering knuckles at no charge ????? I also would like to know if the steering knuckle is the same on all 2001 Outbacks no matter what the engine size. I have owned Subarus since 1980 and never had a wheel bearing problem on one of them. Why just the right side all the time ??? Need some answers. thanks

2001 Outback. Anyone know what the error codes mean on that brand name CD player ? Ran a cd cleaner in the player but did not solve the problem. I find that I have trouble more in the winter when its cold outside. It will not play a cd till it gets pretty warm in car. I get code er 3. Its always been a fussy cd player on what type of cd's it plays. Also is it very hard to take system out and clean the laser myself ? Went to Mc Intosh web site but it has nothing on what all the error codes stand for. Thanks

It was the Coolant Temperture Sensor !! Not an easy thing to find or get at. Its buried under a bunch of other wires. If anyone else has problem finding it, my best way to explain is follow the hose from your PCV down to where it clamps to intake manifold and you will see a brown plug under a bunch of wires that goes to the CTS on your right. A 17mm deep well socket gets it out. Getting the connector off was my biggest problem. A job for someone with small hands to get in there. But now the cooling fan works. Thanks guys for all your help. This site has saved me hundreds of dollars ( that I dont have ) in repairs if I had to take it in to a shop and have the work done on my cars. My son is happy and so am I, and im happy my sons first car is a Subaru. thanks for all the help:banana:

Thanks guys for the great info. Son seems be be helping if I can keep him out there long enough to watch and learn. First thing he has to learn is you dont have to run into the house and wash your hands every time you get some grease on them. Seems to be more worried about cleaning out the inside car then about if its gonna run right. Way out in the sticks here so have no where to work on car but outside. Will check out fan again. Had same problem on another Impreza but its been so long ago I forgot what I did to fix it. Thanks again

Same 95 Impreza 2.2 I been working on for my son. Last owner did nothing but drive it. So far put new rear seal in trans, changed oil, new antifreeze and thermostat. Fixed power steering pump leak and put new belts on. Still have to replace front left cv joint that has no boots. Want to get cooling fan to work. Checked both fuses, not blown. How do I test fan with out frying it ? And if fan is good what else can it be. Checked plug leads from fan and they are clean. Need some help. thanks

95 Impreza l wagon 2.2, awd auto trans. Replaced rear trans seal and still has leak. When I took the drive shaft down the old seal came right out with it on the yoke of the shaft. I did not see any damage to shaft or rear of trans where seal sits. New seal I put in was a good tight fit. Was worried cause the guy that had this car before me let this go a long time. Drove it down the road and the car still shifts fine. Now if I can just stop the leak. And yes that is the only place the leak is coming from. What did I do wrong ? Need some answers.

Easy Transmission Front Seal Replacement
wrongturninwv replied to Gloyale's topic in Transmission, Axle, and Brakes
I read your post on front seal replacement. Great info !! I have to do the rear trans seal on a 95 Impreza sport wagon I just picked up for my sons first car. Would like to know what problems I may run into. I know I have to drop the cat converter to remove the heat sheild first. Are there seals between the cat and the pipes ?? And will be able to get at rear seal since it sits so deep in rear of trans ?? thanks wrongturninswv@wmconnect.com -

After changing CTS, (which was no fun to get at) I checked plug to fan connector, and also changed the 4 fan relays in the fuse box on inside left front fender. Relays that I knew were good from my wifes wrecked 96 Outback. Changed things all at one time cause I needed car working fast. Fans now work. Just hit and miss. I just got to get back in the habit of listening for the fans to come on and off again. I am older now and cant hear as well as I used too. I found out a long time ago on the older Subarus you cant always trust the temperature gauge inside the car. Open the hood once in a while, turn down the radio, take time to look around and listen. This will save you alot of money down the road. The computer in you car can only tell you so much, the rest to keep it running right is all up to you. Thanks again guys
