  1. How do you get to the ashtray light on the 96 outback ? I took ashtray out and cant se a thing in there. Where is the bulb ? thanks
  2. Wanted to know what other wheels from other brands of cars out there fit the 95 Impreza and has the same bolt pattern. thanks
  3. I thought with the car being over 10 years old and with 15000 miles on it it would need new springs by now. When I had struts replaced on the wifes Outback I was told by the shop that did the work that you should replace springs when you have new struts put on. Is that just a sales pitch or do I just replace struts ? Car is bottoming out on bumps now with no load in back. How many years can you get out of the springs before replacing ??? thanks
  4. Time to replace rear struts on my 95 Impreza 2 dr coupe. I have the new springs I ordered from Subaru so now I have to buy some struts. Need you guys to let me know which one gives the better ride, the KYB non ajustable or the Monroe Sensa-Track. Maby one of you even have a new pair for sale. Let me know what you think. Thanks wrongturninswv@wmconnect.com
  5. Try your pets favorite toy and an open passengers side window at about 40 mph. Smell and pet will be gone forever. No really I love dogs.We have 6 Dobermans and run back and forth to the vet alot. Cant take em all at one time cause they would kill eachother over jealousy. Hard to keep the smell gone. I think its the hair left behind from the dog on your seats. I cover mine with a old blanket and pull it out after the ride. Havent found anything that keeps the smell gone forever.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I will let you know which one works best. Too cold out right now to work on.
  7. Wife has 96 Outback with those plastic headlights. Every year they get worse in the winter from the salt. I tried rubbing coumpond and scratchout and good old soap and water and soon as it dries its back. They want way too much for bran new ones cause they are all one piece. Anybody know what might clean them up ??? wrongturninswv@wmconnect.com
  8. We dont have blocks or sidewalks out here so its hard to keep track. But I park my Impreza up on the hill next to my wifes Outback so thats 2 Subarus. My son and I have more fun at Wal*Mart counting how many toothless women come out the store. Try that for fun.
  9. What should I know about changing the fuel filter on my fuel injected 1.8 that would be different from changing the filter on a engine with a carburetor. Is the gas going to spray all over when I remove the lines ??
  10. Great info on the timing belt. Was just going to change mine and my parts dept guy I saw today could not tell me the difference in belts just that one had a CA and the other did not but both would fit my car. LOL
  11. Thanks guys, I will go with the Subaru parts. Belt, new seals and all. I only want to do the job 1 time. Too cold out to have to do it all over again. Then I should be good for another 155,000 miles. Also read post by rainbow123: Any timing belt difference between CA and non CA timing belt. My dealer could not tell me the difference in the two belts. You learn something new each day.
  12. Need to replace belt soon and called a few places for price of belt. About $50.00 from Napa ,$27.99 from Autozone, and Advance has a whole range of prices on the same belt. What is the difference in who you buy the belt from ? Can you tell me what you think ? Is one brand better than the other ? Thanks
  13. Thanks guys for the info on the antifreeze, Went with the 50/50 mix and changed the stat. Was easy to drain once you find the plug. Thanks for all your help.
  14. 95 Impreza 1.8 holds 6.2 quarts in cooling system. So if I put in 1 gallon Prestone and the rest water I should be set at about a 70 - 30 mix right ?
  15. Need to drain and change mine on a 95 Impreza 1.8 but can not find drain plugs for block. Is it ok just to warm car up with heater on till temp goes up turn off and wait a few min then pull bottom hose and drain from there ??? And it gets pretty cold up here so how much Presstone would I use To be safe ??? Thanks
  16. Had to change mine a week ago. Blower fan would only work on high and no air would blow through any vents. Took glove box apart to get to blower motor and found a mouse had made his home in there. He put all he could find in cage of blower motor and thats why no air came out. Any how thats where I found the relay mounted in a small metal box held by 2 phillps screws in the black cover for your heater core. One plug goes to it with I think 3 wires. Go to the junk yard and pull one.Subaru dealer wants an arm and both legs for one. Good luck
  17. In or out ??? Bought new brake pads for wifes 96 Outback. When taking off pads I noticed the pad with the arm that lets you know when your pads are getting low and makes a chirpping noise was faceing to the out side of wheel. The other side pad the arm was on the inside. I called Advance and asked what side it should face and the guy did not sound too sure and said the inside. I called AutoZone and they said it did not matter. Most brakes I seen face that arm outside. What is the answer , arm in or arm out ?????
  18. Torque bind ???? Was reading post cause wife has 96 Outback awd automatic with same problem, skipping on slow tight turns. New tiers new cv joints and front end alignment, still skips. So explain what torque bind is and how do you get rid of it. How will the fuse change help ?? wrongturninswv@wmconnect.com
  19. Very helpfull, think everyone should read this. Thanks Nipper
  20. I read the replies on piston slap in Subaru engines. The question I have is how can you tell the difference from a rod knock and piston slap ??? Isent it the same sound ?? How do you tell the 2 apart ?? Mine sounds like it comes from the center of the engine and when it warms up the sound is its almost gone. I know what lifters sound like cause I had dozens of 80s models. Tell me what the difference is. Thanks
  21. Thanks,I found the problem. Last owner put sealer all over top of gasket covers cause he over tightened the 3 bolts on each side and back halfs had the nuts pulled right out of them. Think he used the sealer just to hold the 2 halves together. The way they fit together it will not look like you need a seal betweem them at all. I think they just keep the road dust and water off of the belts.
  22. Anybody know if the timing cover gaskets are the same on the 2.2 and 1.8 engine ? Rubber gaskets that go between the 2 cover halves on the 95. thanks
  23. Not yet on the grill , is has an old one on that came with car but not the one that comes with it. And yes I looked on ebay for fog lights, no luck on that. May just take them off to get sticker
  24. Rotors cut and a good set of Bendix pads is my answer. I live the highest part of West Virginia and have had Subarus for 13 years out here . Nothing but mountians to go up and down on. Go down some hills at 50mph or better and it hair pin curves too, good set of pads and all in how you drive it. Just watch out for the deer, had one leap right over the hood the other night on the way down hill but that did not slow me down a bit. Subaru is like driving a super high class go-cart. lol luv the wifes Outback
