  1. Wife's company's x-mas party. They did number crunching this year and apparently the cost of flying everyone down there and putting them up in the Silver Legacy (?) was about the same as having everyone drive up to Bow and stay at the Skagit...
  2. Nope... XT DL's had what was called a "package shelf" in the rear, which is basically a covering that replaces the seatbelts and seats. Also, they do not have pass-through rear seats, unlike the GL's or GL-10's. Not from the factory, it didn't. Interestingly enough, if Subaru HAD put a rear seat in the XT DL, it actually would have cost less, as the US had higher tariffs on 2-seat imports than on 4+ seat imports, at least back in the 80's. Not that the rear seat in an XT is usable by anyone older than, say, 10...
  3. Well, my wife and I have changed our plans for Reno slightly. We're arriving late on Thursday, so we're just going to check in and sleep that night. She's being a bum and doesn't want to leave the hotel on Friday... now normally I would be the first to volunteer to go someplace in a new city, but by the time I get there, I will have worked 10 consecutive days (including an 11 hour shift on Sunday), and be jet lagged... so I think this time around we're just going to be lazy on our trip and be bums. And we leave pretty early on Saturday. Next time I'm in town, we'll have to get together and do something... but not this time. Sorry, guys.
  4. No, though there is an occasional gurgling/water noise, so I suppose checking the coolant would be a good plan. I don't think the rushing air noise is related to that.
  5. I don't mean to thread hijack... (ok, maybe I do), but I am also having an odd noise from the engine of my XT, it's a different noise. I've noticed a couple times when the engine is cold and I'm accelerating, that there is a whoosh/whine noise from the engine bay, starting about 3k RPM, and does not go away until the temp gauge reads about half (fully warmed). It does not happen all the time, the only thing I can say is that it is consistently linked to RPM, and it sounds like a BOV that's stuck open (mind you, this car is non-turbo).. any clue? it's kinda disconcerting...
  6. *edit* helps if I read what you wrote correctly. Durrrrrrr....
  7. Back from my sweep of the Lynnwood/Bothell/Everett area and no luck, but I have a Kia-owner friend who lives near you, Ed... he's going to keep a look out, and so is his brother, who was a police explorer and I believe now works for Kirkland police...
  8. As will I. I have a whole lot of nothing to do today, maybe I'll mosey out that way and do a sweep thru the area.
  9. I can see the pics. Basically what we'd have up here as a GL sedan, but it's a manual 4WD, instead of an automatic 4WD. Looks pretty good.
  10. I recently brought back a car from the dead (6 years), and the only things not directly attached to the engine I had to do were drain the gas tank, and replace the battery. most of what I did was fluids/filters/adjustments on the engine itself. And it runs great.
  11. There is a forum here called "The Subaru Marketplace", it should show up 3 spaces down from this forum on the main forum page.
  12. Well, not completely for nothing... I tried to see if I could adapt the existing bracket to the alt you gave me and found out thre things: the main plug has THREE connectors, not two... the spacing between the mounting hole and the adjustment hole on the alt you gave me is actually a little wider than it is on the XT alt... and finally, the pulley, when that alt is in its mounted position, is slightly off, causing flex/wobble in the belt (no good)... so definitively, I can say that alternator is NOT for an XT, it probably isn't even for a Subaru PERIOD... Want it back? hehe
  13. Ah... yes, that is all so familiar. When I had my 82 GL wagon, it was doing that, and the disty was the problem.
  14. Well, that does give me another hare-brained idea... Anyone in seattle got a sawzall and a spare alt bracket with the tube? If so, wanna hack it off and send it my direction? Turbone - was this supposed to be an XT or XT6 alt?
  15. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8847&size=big&sort=1&cat=500 One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong... One on the left = correct. One on the right = incorrect, will not fit because of a metal tube welded to the mount frame that protect the mounting screw on the other type of alternator. One from EA82 = does not appear to fit, because the pulley sticks out 1/2" too far. Hopefully Xoomer has the right one... but what next?
  16. I'll give my props to Turbone here for letting me bug him at home late tonight to pick up an alt, even though later I found out it wouldn't fit. Great guy.
  17. If it's the actual coupe (looks like an RX without the body kit), it came with an EA82. If it's the hatchback (looks like, well, an EA81 hatch), it came with an EA81 or possibly an EA71. Ditto.
  18. Unsure how old the battery is, as I just picked up the car 3 weeks ago (got the title in the mail today, too). It's an 84-month Exide, so it should be a good quality one. If this battery does fail when I replace the alt, I'll just use the battery out of Freebie and buy Havoc a new one when she gets back around to working on it. I'll probably just end up replacing the belt while I'm in there, since they're cheap. Oh, and I took Freebie's battery with me and got the car home without incident.
  19. Hey guys - Like an idjit, I've been ignoring a warning sign on the XT for the past few days. For a few days, the Voltmeter on the car fluctuates (fairly quickly) between 12V and 18V. Today, on my way home from work, it went down to just above 8V. I didn't notice it until my stereo started cutting out and the lights started dimming, but when I noticed it, I immediately shut off everything but the headlights and drove it as far as I could. Fortunately, I managed to have JUST enough power to coast into a parking lot at Pep Boys before it stalled and died completely. Now... this sounds to me like the alternator... or, less likely, a battery. Am I correct in my thinking? Any other thoughts? I'm going back to the car in about a half an hour with the battery from Freebie and a set of tools.
  20. Anyone online with a carfax subscription? I was wondering if someone could run a VIN for me... 4S4BJ63C7M7924474 (Yes, I realize it's a Legacy, but I think that more people with Carfax might be on this half of the forum)
  21. Alright... I may just be bored enough tomorrow to take you up on that.
  22. They're yellowing, and one is clearly older/weaker than the other (pass side)... so I'm guessing old.
