Considering buying an Outback, need feedback
"EJ" replied to Mbrooks's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI ve got an 01 Outback, 5sp with 2.5 ltr engine. I do all the maint. myself. Pretty easy to do most of the maint., I am flushing the cooling system today along with an oil change. It has over 40K on the OD and hasn't caused us any problems. Only thing I find is that you have to make sure you get the air filter housing put back together the right way when changing the filter. Once you learn how to do it you'll remember, just have to get all the little tabs in all the holes so it seals properly. I don't have any exp. w/automatics. Subarus are very dependable cars, I am sure you'll here that allot on this board. BTW welcome to the board... What part of PA are you from? I am down in South Jersey. Good luck finding a ROO.

Whats A Pitching Stopper And How Do You Adjust It
Aren't EA81 type adjustable? The picture posted I beleive is an ea82, mine is adjustable. I know it is because if it is to tight forget trying to start the engine because it bind's the flywheel and the starter. If you get one from a yard make sure you remember which way the washers and rubber pieces go so you can put it back together correctly...

I think you should have a off-road meet down your way, once you get your hatch together and that Super Brat gets ready. Let me know I am sure you could get at least 3 or 4 people to show up. As usual we had about 7 or 8 people show for the PB, the usual suspects and afew new faces. It was nice to finally meet Skip and was cool to see Smitty and his Powder mobile. Where ever we have a meet we have to make sure Moosens comes along with his stock wagaon to pull me to safety.... Thanks for the tow job'S Paul.... Sorry I spelled Luc's name wrong before.

Shift linkage slop
I did the same thing to my brat when I had it and did it to my hatch. Make sure you get a high grade nut and bolt, that way you won't have any problems with breakage... its like having a new shifter.

It could be 75 degrees and sunny with no clouds when you leave your house. But when you walk through the gates at Harry's its 42 degrees and raining with a 30 mph wind that cuts you in half....Been like that everytime I go up there....Always bring extra stuff to keep warm when you go to harrys.... you should signal from the right lane to move into the left, overtake the slower vehicle and signal and move back into the right. If everyone did that things would move much smoooooother........ That way you wouldn't get behind some SUV while they talk on their cell trying to figure out which kid has to get picked up at which soccer game.....

Basic Rules For Driving In New Jersey... 1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real New Jersey driver never uses them. 2. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous situation. 3. The faster you drive through a redlight, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit. 4. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in you being rear ended. 5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. New Jersey is a no-fault insurance state and the other guy doesn't have anything to lose. 6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs. 7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way toscare people entering the highway. 8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions and are apparently not enforceable in New Jersey during rush hour. 9. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a New Jersey driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot. 10. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire. 11. Learn to swerve abruptly. New Jersey is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to the State Highway Department, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes. 12. It is traditional in New Jersey to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes. 13. Remember that the goal of every New Jersey driver is to get there first, by whatever means necessary. Good luck and be safe in the good ole Garden State..... Hey Paul thats a great idea, can you get the account # incase someone brings a check book....
