The reading on the low side was in the good blue range...around 38 psi. The high side was in the good blue range around 200 psi. The clutch/cover distance was not measured but looks tight.

Turning off the car seems to do the trick. I've tried turning it off, running thru the different setting, auto, econ, defrost. When I charged the system I didn't touch the clutch nor the relay. I usually jump the relay but this time with the long vacuum pump on each side, I ended up just adding refrigerant and the clutch came on getting up to working pressure. I was careful to watch my gauges, but I didn't weigh my refrigerant. I did over add and my clutch was shutting off. I let some out and got it the clutch to stay on. I'll put on the gauges today and see if has too much. I'll get a new relay too. thanks

I have an 2001 OBW H6. I replaced the expansion valve and vacuum pump out my high and low side before recharging. Most of the time the A/C works fine, but five times or so the compressor stops mid drive, usually with in minutes of starting a commute. I can get the A/C to work again by just stopping/starting the car. Any ideas? Of course one time this occurred when my wife was driving it. I love this car, it only has 107K. It's the youngest suby I ever had... thanks Mike

thanks, I cleaned with acetone finger nail polish. Is it a good idea to finger tight and then set the light torque final after it sets? on to my H6 for a fuel filter change while I wait.

How long should I wait for the RTV to cure before I fill tranny? I permatex says wait 24 hrs but she wants to drive sooner than that.

I got the pan off. Replacing inner filter and outer and hopefully is takes care of the majority of the leak. I like the inner filter comes with a gasket. I'd rather use that than the RTV....I assume.

I believe those Trans coolant lines leak a bit. Are they hard to replace? thanks guys

My stepdaughters 2001 OBW has a bad leak which I think is coming from the tranny pan. I was planning on taking off the pan and using some Permatex RTV 81180. But once I took off all the bolts the old RTV is holding the pan on. I can't get the pan to come off. The bolts were lightly applied. Should I just try to put the bolts back on and try to torque down evenly and hope it seals? I saw the 4 ft lbs for the tranny bolts so I know to be easy.

got the schrader valve out once I remove the expansion valve. I then could wiggle the hose and get that little beast out.

Does the expansion valve need the rubber boot? My car is missing it. Would some neoprene tape work to absorb vibration or is a full dust cover OEM boot needed?

Went out and got a robinair vacuum pump, gauges from NAPA but forgot my schrader valves. Went to O'rielly b/c is close and they sold a package. It had four schrader valves , two big two small. I thought the low side had the smalls b/c the high side had a big one. NOPE, down the tube it went. Tried tweezers, vacuuming it out. Now is in there. I'm trying to get my expansion valve out so I can get the hose. I assume I need to get that part out. Is it fine to leave it in there? thanks

I found the drier container. Does the expansion valve need the rubber boot at the firewall. Mine is missing.

thanks lucky texan, I didn't know about renting a pump. I'll probably use the vacuum pump on my two OBW and other projects but renting might be the way to go.

Thanks Fairtax4me, I'll get a vacuum kit, since I need it now and in the future. Where is the the filter drier? If I dry it out under a vacuum for an extended time, would the drier still need to be replaced?

Oh I forgot to ask, what brand of expansion valve is recommended? Is the Four Seasons good?

I've got an OBW 2001 H6 with the ac expansion valve "moan". When I first hook up my parts store $40 can/gauge the low side was way to high in pressure and the compressor was not engaging. I got the low side down in the working range and the compressor works and the moan comes and goes. When the system works in the heat of the day the moan is worse and the compressor fights so hard the RPM's are affected. I plan to change out my expansion valve and then recharge. I usually just use the $40 can/gauge and watch my low side gauge readings. ???? Should I do the right thing and by a $200 kit and vacuum out the system? I also don't like the idea of releasing all the R134a, doesn't that harm the environment? I vacuum kits that can store run around $300+. I like doing most of my own repairs so I wouldn't mind knowing if the "right way" is getting a vacuum kit. thanks Michael

Well I got the first header welded on..and my friend didn't have the gas on right and put a bigger hole. Then filled it but coloring on the other side made me feel like the weld fix had some blockage to it. Got the ebay seller to send another and I sent the first one back. The second one has a smaller area with a missing weld…therefore there's a leak in the junction at the end of the header. How important is the no leak factor in a header? I thought any leak could introduce oxygen and mess up the caty sensors.

Got the header today. Looks good except there is a missing weld at one of the junctions. The chrome looks good except for that hole and the end connection has a bit of rusty area and not chromed well. http://i.imgur.com/19Re6R4.jpg Do you guys recommend high temp. paint. and/or wrapping the headers? Should I get my friend to tigweld or just fill it with my stick welding.

I ordered the one Nicoli suggested. After the head gasket, new timing belt and a header, I'll update. Michael

The Fel-Pro Hs26170Pt1 Head Gasket Set 2.5I got from Amazon in nov 2014 had MLS gaskets. The dealership buddy that put those in said those were good gaskets. where do you recommend getting the ishino or stone sets?
