  1. I've only had Subies for the past year, great cars. Had one VW, a stock 67 Beetle. It was a good car to me, no complaints at all! Did have a sand rail with the VW transaxle turned around backwards and a 2Kcc Pinto motor running on ave gas, that was a screamer!! Miss that one, traded it for a Harley.

Picking up my lift/EJ22adapter for my EA81 Monday. Looking forward to getting it all together but don't plan on running it until I get the engine/trans swap done. May take me some time to get it all done as I'm a fiar weather mechanic.

Subs are grerat but I have a F150XLT 4X4 (Factory dual front shocks, rear air over loads.) also for heavy hauling, trailer work and all the stuff the Sub can't handle well. It's hard on gas but out preforms my Sub in the snow (Bad clutch pack so it's a FWD) until I get the lifted one going.

  2. Hello and welcome to the board. Lots of good info here and at least one member who has built a trike. You will find it in this thread! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45776&highlight=trikesI also am interested in a trike or a 3 wheeled car which you can check out at www.3wheeler.com They have a great history on them their.

Have an 89GL 10 Turbo FWD Auto if time and money ever come together I would like to see transformed.

    Again, welcome, Stumpy

  3. Thanks for the input ballitch. I have a complete donor car so the exhaust headers are no problem. I live in Multnomah County but not in the DEQ Zone. Have never dealt them folks. Ran my built 350 Blazer for 13 years with straight pipes (3") poking out right in front of the rear wheels. Yea, every one in town knew when I was leaving.

I'll be picking up my lift kit and EJ22 adapter from AA Monday. No garage so I may not get in done untill the weather gets a bit friendlyer!! Haven't even got around to pulling the stock engine and trans yet. Have d/r5sp ready but not the donor engine. No shortage of Sub's to drive while that project is in the works. Latter, Stumpy

  4. Why are the cats required? For preformance or for DEQ? Courious as I'm gearing up for this swap my self and would prefer no cats or muffler if it doesn't affect preformance. Thanks, Stumpy

just be sure to use the EJ22 header and exhaust piping, my stock EA82 stuff chokes the hell out of that EJ22 under the hood, or better yet, go 2.25'', but you still need to have all your cats, unfortunately.

  5. 88hatchmonster can help out with the flywheel redrill (Round trip shipping to NY) or you can do it your self with a dremel. Here is a thread of his on the subject!http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=387144#post387144

    His web site: mroseusa.com

If I remember corectly 88hatchmonster charges $75. for the redrill, for comparison with local shops. Looking at the dremel method my self as I will be picking up my adapter plate as soon as I put my Legacy back to together. Insuficient antifreeze and the rad ruptured with the latest cold spell. Over site on my part as I got antifreeze and did all the other vehicles except my daily driver!:banghead: Hope this helps, Stumpy

  6. I have used a HI lift jack many times but never on a subie four wheelin. Used it on my parts car, jacked up using the rear wheel well. Have a 48" one with a 9" bow in it from one of my projects, I can be hard on equipment at times. It's a China made 3.5 ton model instead of the standard 5 ton. Thats the first one I ever bent like that! Have a 60" non China model also with the top attachment for compressing things. Not sure if I will mount it on the subie or not but will always have one!! Stumpy

  7. I don't have any experience with the 2.5 motors but understand they are a 2.2 bored out with DOHC's. I have had troubles with a 2.2 jumping 90 degrees out on the crank sprocket. Even the local Subie shop missed the problem. Turned out to be one of the idler pulleys missing almost half the bearings. Nabbed one off my parts motor and back in business. The shop reinbursed me for the full amount of their bill with out me even asking!! Don't see that every much these days. For what it's worth, Stumpy

  8. I'm gearing up for one of those lifts my self. 84GL wagon that I'm getting a lift from AA for. If you have the equipment to build one your self you can save money but it will take a lot of time as opposed to using a kit. The stock motor will be under powered with a lift and larger wheels for my taste.

Here's a pic of mine as advertised. Looks like your twin!! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37680

Got an EJ22 and d/r 5speed to go in after the lift goes on. May end up waiting for warmer weather as I will be working out side.

14" pugs are better for the lift than 13" but I'm looking for the 15" my self!

Good luck and I will post pic's when I get it together. Stumpy

  9. No sales tax in Oregon Vs No income tax in Washington

Clark Co. Wa. recently had quite a jump in property values. So rent probably went up as well. My friend gets like $800 a month for her 3 bed room rental in Orchards. (900sqft, 3 bdr, 1.5 bath, 2 car garage)

You have to pump your gas in Washington but have to get out and pay in Oregon (Unless you use a credit card).

Don't know much about the school or jobs situation.

Like edrach says, Check the local chambers of commerce for more detailed information.

  10. I have 7 in all, listed in order of purchase over the past 10 or 11 months.

90 Legacy LS wagon, Dead battery but other wise a runner.

91 Legacy L wagon, Parts car. NoN Runner.

91 Legacy L wagon, My daily driver.

84GL wagon, waiting for lift & EJ22/d/r5speed transplant. Presently not running.

86GL wagon, Parts car. Non Runner.

89GL10 wagon, Daily runner back up.

91 Legacy L wagon, Runs but is missing a couple gears.

So, 3 that I would trust driving regulary. 1 I could drive in an emergency. And 3 that don't move under their own power. Plus I have a 92 F150XLT 4X4 that I use for hauling and trailer work. And lets not forget the 71 Datsun 510!

  11. Considered doing one my self but am short of funds and long in projects at the moment. Have 7 wagons in the yard at the moment. 3 are getting parted out and one may become a trike!! My 84 is getting lifted and mods from one (EJ22 donor) parts car. I have a decent 90 legacy ls with moon roof that would make a nice leg-rat. :brow: Who knows, may be some day.

  12. I have an 84 4sp d/r. Going to do a ej22/d/r5sp swap so I won't need the old one. Have never driven it so I can't honestly tell you about it's condition. Bought it from (Dylan) slidewaysuby is his handle on here.

    http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37680

He could tell you more about the condition of the trans than me. To cold for me to get very motivated working outside right now. It's not going any where fast, not pressed to do any thing with it. Just fuel for thought. Stumpy

  13. Has the drive shafts started knocking yet? The boots were ripped on mine and it took 1K miles before it started knocking. 7K miles latter and winter approching I decided it was time to change them as clutch pack for the rear wheels is weak to nonexistant and I use crutches to get around. No fun being stranded in foul weather.

Have never done a clutch on a Subie yet but would pull motor instead of trans my self. Stumpy

  14. As long as it keeps pumping its self up when you use it I wouldn't worry about it until summer when it would be more comfortable to work on it. I would check it out to see if it's a cheap fix before deciding what my course of action is! The pneumatic suspension is nice when it's working properly. When old age sets in it can become problematic and expensive to maintain. It becomes cheaper and less of a hassle to convert to standard struts.
