  1. After 4 unsuccessful visits, I finally talked to the man who supposedly owned the Subaru. According to the manager, parking spot number 30 belonged to a man named Steven something-or-other in an apartment across the complex, but Steven had no idea what car I was talking about. Too bad. I'm not sure what the next step is going to be...any suggestions? Edit: Will looked up the VIN for me on that vehicle inquiry thing, and the woman whose name is listed as the owner isn't coming up on any searches either. Does anyone have CarFax?
  2. Let's hope it's something easy like a timing belt. Today was super busy so I didn't have time to follow up on it, but tomorrow I'm definitely going to knock on their door. I did twice yesterday, and they weren't home, so I hope they returned the manager's call, that'd be awesome. This is quite the step down from my RX, but it's so nice, I just can't pass it up. I'm an addict.
  3. I think that was a hint. I'll run outside in the rain and check it in a few minutes. :-p
  4. I'll try to get you guys the VIN this afternoon, then you'll know for sure. I'm praying to the Subie gods that there's nothing serious wrong with it. The rules say that changing oil isn't allowed in the parking lot, but it doesn't say anything about motor swaps. I wonder how lenient he'll be since I'm helping him clear out some of the abandoned cars around here.
  5. Don't worry, you'll be getting several phone calls from me long the lines of: "Emilyyyy, I need a __________, do you have one?" "Rick, my car is __________ whenever I __________, do you know whats wrong with it?" I'll be home in the beginning of June for a week or so. I'll try to give you a call tomorrow or Wednesday because we need to catch up (and because I need a few oil filters).
  6. Well, I just went over there and no one was home. If it weren't pouring down rain, I would try again later, but it's dark and cold and wet out there, so it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. The owner of the car also has a message on his answering machine from the apartment manager, so hopefully he'll return that call and save me a trip in the rain. I'll post up the VIN when it's not so wet out there.
  7. I honestly couldn't tell ya, but it's pretty, isn't it? Will, I definitely plan on saving it if I can talk the owner into handing it over. Yayyy, another old school Subie for me!
  8. I just moved into a new apartment in Hayward, CA. In the parking lot is a total of 12 (maybe more, I might have missed a few) abandoned cars, and one of them is a nifty little blue GL-10 sedan. It's automatic and 2WD, unfortunately, but the body is in immaculate condition, and the interior looks brand spankin' new. The car has been sitting since '02 and definitely needs some TLC. It has 3 years worth of dust on it, and definitely needs some new weather stripping, a good bath and a coat of wax. I left a note on the car last week, but there were two other notes from the apartment manager threatening to tow it. I spoke with him today, and he got all excited that I wanted to buy the car, and he called up the owner and left a message telling him that I'm interested in it. I got the apartment number of the owner, so I'm going to stop by later this evening and negotiate prices. I could use a commuter car for Bay Area traffic, and since my WRX was recently involved in an accident, I'll need something to drive while its in the body shop. Hopefully the GL-10 doesn't need any major work. Here are a few pictures I snapped of it:
  9. The last meet at Red Rocks was a success, as was the BBQ at Addenbrook Park. Too bad you guys are doing this in September, or I'd be there.
  10. I know how obsessed you are. I'm pretty sure I'm worse.
  11. I believe that the "something like a Justy" is a Pleo. There was one at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb meet last year. I took a few pictures of it, but I'm having trouble attaching them. If someone wants to host them for me, then I'll post them. I *think* Pleos are supercharged 3 cylinders, but I'm not entirely sure. I took pics of the engine bay, but didn't actually look at it.
  12. I've either driven or owned almost every kind of Subaru that has been sold in the US, and I can't say that I was disappointed in any of them. After working in a shop that services all cars (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Mitsu, etc.), then working in one that specializes in Subarus, I've come to realize how well built and easy to work on Subarus are. Every so often I get the opportunity to drive a non-Subaru, and every single time I get back into my car, I'm glad I'm lucky enough to own such a reliable, fun to drive, good looking car. Long pointless story: I think my father is probably kicking himself for ever buying his '92 SVX because that's what got me started on my Subaru dedication (or obsession depending on how you look at it). I remember picking the car up from the dealership when I was 5 years old and bragging to my friends about how cool it was. I always felt cool getting out of that car when he dropped me off at school. A few years after the SVX, my Mom bought a '94 Legacy. That car saved my dad's life when he totaled it on a trip to Texas. After 10 years of owning the SVX, my dad decided it was time for a change. He traded it for a 2002 automatic 2.5 RS which was handed down to me. When I was in middle school, I had to walk to and from school since it was just down the street from my house. One of the teachers had two white '88 RX coupes that he alternated driving. He always parked in the same spot right next to the sidewalk that led me to the trail to my house. Every single day for three years, I would stop and admire the car (not realizing that there were two different ones). I was friends with the teacher's daughter, so I always wrote him letters about how much I loved his car and made her deliver them to him. Even after I started high school, I would drop by the middle school to nag him about his car. Finally, my Junior year, he decided to sell one of the RX's and give the other one to his daughter. I had two cars, the 2002 2.5 RS, and the RX, but I drove the RX every day. A few months after I bought the RX, his daughter totaled hers, so I bought that one off of him as well and parted it out. I eventually ended up buying a WRX, so the RX had to go, but I still really, really miss it and have every intention of buying another one in a few years when I finish school. Hey Silvershadow, this is the story of your car. So now I'm going to school for Automotive Technology and working at CCR. In June I'm going to San Francisco for college to study transportation design because I want to work for SOA. There are definitely non-Subarus out there that I would love to own, but it would take a really AMAZING car to come between me and my Subarus. Adam NDJ, I almost got a Subaru tattoo last night, but I was short several dollars. I'll probably name my kids after the stars in Pleadies even though they're crazy hippie names. Maybe I'll be nice and give them normal middle names (like Legacy and Forest). Obsessed? Me? Never.
  13. Wow, 283 at the wheels. I'm very, very, very, very impressed! I'd be concerned about the tranny though, I really doubt they were designed to handle that much power. It seems to be holding up just fine though, I'm assuming. I wonder how much custom gears would run ya.
  14. Indeed, that was a lot of fun. It's always cool to get a variety of Subarus together. I'll see if I can get Max to post the pictures he took. I think we had a pretty decent turnout...yay. We need to do that again sometime.
  15. Hmm, all I know is that he has long hair. Er...anyway...done hijacking.
  16. Do you have a bunch of disc golf stickers all over your car?
  17. I posted the BBQ info on SVX Network, it's on ClubWRX, and it will be on NASIOC by the end of the night. Woohoo...this should be fun. It's about time the oldschool guys and newschool guys meet. :-) Edit: jmr052...do you drive a red GL turbo wagon?
  18. Yeah, I agree, we should start planning, but we need some time to spread the word. I think a Sunday would probably be best since most people have Sundays off, I like October 5th. Where do you guys want to do it? I know of several parks. The one that Britnie was thinking of has a big parking lot and is really nice. It's in Lakewood which seems pretty central. Where would everyone be coming from? -Kellie
  19. BBQ sounds fun. I think it would be cool to get other Subaru clubs together, then we could educate the Impreza crowd on older Subies. I'm up for anything though. The only thing is...if whatever we do involves wheeling, I'll have catch a ride with one of you guys. The RX is in need of insurance and a right side timing belt, and the WRX isn't really suitable for drives that require um...clearance. Anyway, whatever you folks decide on is cool with me as long as it's on a weekend and we plan ahead. The more notice, the better. -Kellie
