  1. My vote on where to mount a highlift is; inside if you have the room (bolt it down good), or on the roof. Mounting it low in the back just covers/packs it with dust and mud, making it less dependable than a clean well oiled tool.
  2. My Daughter in South Dakota has a 2001? Legasy Sedan with door locks that have a mind of their own. The locks will activate and deactivate as you drive down the road, they do the same thing parked whether the key is in the ignition or not. As I am 6 hours away and cannot help with the situation we are looking for a reputable shop in the Spearfish/Rapid City area to try and fix this. She and her husband are planning on a trip to Wyoming and Colorado later next week so locking doors would be a nice thing. Any suggestions on shops to check with?
  3. As we tromped in with the Roo sitting outside in snow up past the axle centers, and tromping the snow off our boots, the proprietor looked out the window at our snow covered car aand asked, "Oh, have they plowed the roads already?" That by itself would have made a perfect script. Yes, Perfect!
  4. Thanks, I will take it for a romp out on the highway and check the odometer.
  5. I did some searching but could not find anything exactly like the problem my 92, 5 speed, Loyale Wagon is having. The speedometer reads slower the colder the weather. In temps above 25-30*F second gear, 3000 rpms is about 25 mph. 10-20*F, second gear, 3000 rpm, speedo reads 15 mph. This morning -17*F and the speedo never budged. Drove it at lunch time 10*F and it read 15 mph at 3000 rpm's, again in second gear. So the cable has not snapped. At no time does the needle bounce as is the case when a cable is headed south, always nice and steady. Whats going on? I can live with it but it is irritating. 92 Loyale Wagon
  6. I need to remove the cylinder block plug to install a block heater, anyone know what size hex wrench it takes? a lot bigger than anything in my metric box so I need to purchase or borrow the right size. TIA Willy 1992 Loyale, ea82, 1800cc, 5 speed.
  7. I'm new guy as well, got a 1992 Loyale a couple of weeks ago and it came with a Haynes and a Chiltons Manual. The PO said she needed both as each had its strong and weak areas but between the two most every thing was covered.
  8. I'm going to look at 92 wagon today, sounds like a good rig but the seller (a good friend) said mice or some other vermin set up house keeping in the heater and it stinks. How complicated is it to clean out the heater ducts? I will try to track down a manuel but in the mean time I wanted to give you fine folks a swag at it. Willy
  9. I wear mine 99.9% of the time. I have seen, and been in, too many slow off camber situations that can lead to rolling or loss of control. 40 years of wearing one has me trained and convinced.
  10. I have a 85 subaru wagon sitting in my back yard, it is not running but I think most everything is still hooked up. If you want to drop by and look at it let me know, I have digi cam and can get pics as well. Let me know.
  11. I have a 75 TR7, struts, a quick and dirty engine bay measure revealed almost identical dimensions as the 75 subaru wagon sitting next to it. Both need new engines, what to do...
  12. First post here. I am a total newby to Subaru so I will be on the steep side of the learning curve. I have a 1985 wagon with non-operable engine, broken timing belt which led to a broken distributor and purhaps a broken valve, or so the mechanic of the PO said. Now I am having my doubts as I learn that it is a non-interference engine. Anyway, got it for $5.00, looking for a replacement engine. I'm 25 miles away from egladman, Lander Wyoming.
