gen 2 mpg?
I am driving a 4speed 85 brat and at my last fillup i checked the mpg and it came out to 23. That seemed pretty low considering it runs really really smooth (for a carburated engine anyway). What kind of numbers are you guys getting? any recomendations?

High altitude Brat?
I was looking under the hood of my 85 brat to see if i could find out if it was from california. I believe the california version came with an egr valve and some other modifications to help with smog. I did not find a california model but i did find a disclaimer explaining that the car was designed for high altitude. I assume that means there are some carburator modifications. What are the differences for the high altitude models? Should i change them back since i live basically at sea level in san diego?

Wtf, cooling issue!! please help
milkman111083 replied to codytotheh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis is kind of obvious but i figured id put it anyway cause it is easy. My brothers Toyota was having similar problems and it ended up that an old radiator cap was the problem. the car ran fine and cool at idle but when he got on the gas the bad radiator cap let air leak in and it formed a bubble that totally stopped the coolant from circulating.

San Diego Subarus
holy crap man how did you see all that in those tiny little pictures. haha. the seats are mustang seats so they have the stupid little horse on them. i want so see if i can get some kind of subaru patch to go over them. the ignition has a little piece of vinyl over it and a second ignition was installed just forward of it. And yes he tried to do something with the bumper so he could mount lights there but the bumper wasnt strong enough to support that little add on so he had to run some piping reinforcement under the bumper. I would like to get one of those offroading bumpers and put it on over the stock bumper. Sweetness is in the running.

Can you drink in the back of a brat?
If a brat has legal seats and seat belts in the bed then can someone else legally sit back there and drink alcohol while the car is driving? I figured that maybe its possible since you can drink in the back of a limo

San Diego Subarus
Hi I just bought my first subaru, a 1985 subaru brat. 4 speed, camper shell, 94k miles, new paint, and in good shape all around. Im really excited about it and would love to network with any other subaru owners near San Diego. I posted a wanted thread in the classified section about some plastics that i would like to get for it. Does anyone know how to get random little plastic parts for brats? Ill post pictures of the brat tommorow if anyone is interested in seeing it.

engine recomendations for 79 brat
I have read all the archived threads that i could find about engine swapping. I just wanted to clarify a few things and ask a few questions. the 79 brat came with the ea71 engine, the 81 brat came with the ea81 even though it was still a gen 1. There are a bunch of clearance issues and compatability issues with putting an ea81 into a 79. this makes the next worthwile replacement engine the ej22 but there are still a significant # of modifications that must be done. Therefore if my choices are between a ea71 and an ej22, how do they match up in terms of 1 Dependability, 2 difficulty of instalation, 3 quality of ride?

Cherry Hill Museum?
thankyou for this posting, i had seen that spoiler thing on the top of brats and i thought it was just some retards way of making his car look faster by cutting up a bed topper and makeing a ridiculous fin, Its really good to know that that thing actually has a function and if what the article boasts about (being able to smoke a cigareete in the back at 60mph) is true i might just get one one day:clap:

price on a 79 brat
thanks guys, the guy asked 1500 (he owes 300 in back registration) so i guess i can understand that as an opening price, I want to pass on anything over 900 but i just cant help but think that i might be missing out on something really good. I just am gonna stick to my guns, i want this car to be infused with good feelings! the difference between:dead:and

price on a 79 brat
what would an appropriate price be for a 1979 brat, very original condition. Absolutely no rust, one dent on fender (easy fix). Interior seats are destroyed, but dash is great. still has jump seats. Suposedly runs but has been sitting for a long time and apparently burns oil. has low miles on the car though, 70k. Also anyone know how much an engine rebuild would cost to get her running good so she'll pass smog?

82 brat questions
since 82 is the first year of the generation 2s, are there any quirks associated with them? also ,if something breaks, are parts obtainable?

82 brat questions
hi, ive been looking to buy a brat for a while and recently found an 82 for sale. I believe i had heard somewhere that parts (to the 82 in particular, since it was a conversion year) of these are hard to find. Is that really an issue? do the 82s have any special problems? do they have the problem with the rusting fenders? I thought that 82s had the cyclops light in the middle of the grill, but this one dosent, does that mean that it is not an 82? that should get me started, thanks

what can an 85 brat do?
i just sold my wrangler and i need a new vehicle as soon as possible. I found an 85 brat near me that looks awsome. the problem is that im also planning on buying a small (17ft or smaller) fish/ski boat. will i be able to tow the boat with the brat, i dont care if i can only go 40mph, i just want to be able to make it up hills.

hp and tow capacity
From what ive read it seems that gen 1 brats have about 70 hp and gen 2s have about 80. Are those #s accurate, they seem really low. how does that translate into to top speed and acceleration, could i cruise at 70? Also, is there any possibility that i could tow a small boat with one?
