does anyone happen to know what tools (wrenchs sizes, etc) I need to remove the battery cables on a 91 legacy?
hogweed replied to blue91legacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi have this dilemma often: i have the part i need on another car (free) or i can go spend $xx to get a new one. seems simple, right? not so fast!! often i've found that the time an effort to get the old one off makes it about the same in terms of "economy" (my time and effort = $xx) of course it's tough to tell before hand but in your case i can't see anyone making them for less than $40-50 and with the the dealer set only being $96 i would say that isn't enough of a difference to make it worthwhile

Shifter Linkage Replacement
hogweed replied to doc526's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi have three key words for this job: freaking air tools!! i destroyed my large pin beating on it for an hour and it would not move. got the air hammer out and had it out in 10 minutes. also, instead of taping the pin to the punch, i used the 1/8" punch through the large pin with a shouldered nut at the bottom to provide a flush surface. this keeps the linkage centered and the pin can't go anywhere but up. i wanted to show how the pin fits on the tool but the old one is horribly disfigured and the new one is where it belongs!

Shifter Linkage Replacement
hogweed replied to doc526's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXok, so i'm waiting 13 days for the new ujointbut i thought i would get the old one out in the interim....i CANNOT get the large pin to budge. i'm afraid i've deformed it and fear it won't be able to move through the holes now. if i take out the x members is it possible to drill that out? aany other ideas?

stupid (me) axle question
hogweed replied to hogweed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwell that went well. only problem is the 'good' axle looks to be aftermarket.....i plan on rebooting the green one and possibly reinstalling it after the insp. once the shifter parts get here i can get that shifter firmed up and get this buggy on the road again! thx for all the great input/advice/direction

Can I drive with a torn axle shaft boot?
hogweed replied to pginter96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis inspection is for cars that have been totaled and have salvage certificates. once it goes thru insp you get a rebuilt title. they also perform a state insp at the same time and most of the time it is that small stuff that needs to be fixed and not the repair from the collision damage

What would you pay for a 2001 impreza?
hogweed replied to jamzkurl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXcar has some work done to it so it may be a decent deal if it is properly sorted. i have a 2000 impreza w/ similar mileage but is certainly not as nice (more of a beater/commuter car) and i paid less than $1k. i would try talking to him to see if he's in love w/ the car and thinks he's giving it away at the asking price or if he wants to sell it. that should give you an idea of whether you can offer $2500 or not.

Would a subaru legacy 97 with 225K miles for 1K be a good car?
hogweed replied to jamzkurl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX2.5 will probably continue to have HG issues at some point but for a grand, if you get a year or two out of it, it has to be worth it. check the coolant overflow to see if it is blowing compression in to the tank. see if there are records for the hg and tb work.

1997 outback 2.5 suddenly running poorly
hogweed replied to hogweed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyou're right but i saw a lot of oil smoke coming from under the hood when it warmed up, has ZERO power.....it literally would not make it up on to the deck of my rollback.
