  1. The blue factory-position stick you see in the corner of picture 2 now ONLY controls the 2wd/4wd action. The new tan stick I put in is to select hi or lo range independently of the 4wd ......lemme tell you, 2wd lo is SWEET if you are running bigger tires! UP is high-range DOWN is low-range I had to weld it in backwards too.....if it was the "right way" it would be in the way. Where it is, it tucks nicely behind your knee as you drive!
  2. Here she is folks! - Removed the shift rod from the tranny, and bent it out of the way. - Welded a bolt (with matching thread, and connected to tranny, onto the end of a spare ea81 hood prop rod - Routed rod through drilled hole in firewall. - Connected to spare 4WD hi/lo shift assembly, which was welded to the body. PICS!!!
  3. I STARTED OUT dating you for your yellow truck ..... Then when you joined the USMB I knew it was love. Now you own TWO BRATS!!! :headbang: .........Im yours!
  4. At LEAST one! If youre anything like me..... youll soon be dreaming about how to fix up your "rustbucket" to be good as new!
  5. I wish my 1.8L brat had that much horsepower ...... Sad but true
  6. I once drove 18 hours straight in my baja (WITH my girlfriend!) ......I would have to say that I have sat in worse...... MUCH worse.
  7. U done good! (also agree with 75 subie..... more pics!)
  8. My brat has the 3/4 BYB lift, and I really like it. Shipping was fast, and I agree with the others that say the kit will outlast the subie its bolted to!
  9. Dont worry, Ill just put the cap on the brat ......theres plenty of room for ya back there! kidding, KIDDING:grin:
  10. It does look like its nice and rust free! *checks e-bay ad* I would look at it like this - You paid to get a nice brat. Its worth putting a little money into it to fix. If you have a decent (and honest) shop near you (preferably that knows subarus) that could give you some advice on it..... that would be your best bet I think. The subie dealership (at least here in the northeast) is often just as clueless on older subes as your local "wal-mart lube express" will be. IF said good shop determines its the trans, junkyard d/r trannys can be had fairly cheap depending on whats available locally (any tranny from a wagon or hatch will work too.... just make sure the final gear ratio matches *yours SHOULD say 3.9* - look for the silver plate on the rear diff)
  11. Ditto on the PMing of the address Connie! Matt..... as far as the banjo, you got it man!
  12. Whats the matter? You 'fraid of a little Earl Scruggs "Foggy Mountain Breakdown"?
  13. Come to think of it, when I got my brat, somebody had been messing with the 4wd linkage (and/or the whole trans), and even when the 4X4 lever was all the way down to the console, the tranny was still halfway between 2wd and 4wd .....and made a nasty grinding sound that went away when I put it in 4wd (off road of course!) :-p *Probably NOT your issue....but thought Id mention it.
  14. Hi, and welcome to the USMB If you have a brat (or brat troubles) ....youve come to the right place! FIRST - Check all your fluids to make sure theyre up to levels. If your CV axles are all ok .....the grinding could be a wheel bearing (or a brake dragging) Make sure nothing is dragging on any moving parts underneath, and check for excessive play in the front and rear drive shaft U-joints. (MOST) engine problems are a symptom of vacuum leaks. With the engine running.....open the hood and listen closely for hissing sounds (leaks) Dont fret too awful much right away..... these brats are TOUGH, and can stand a fair amount of punishment (trust me ) Feel free to PM me with any questions, Im usually available.
  15. Thanks Connie! Some folks solve everything with the scientific method. ......I think that is the "get 'er done" method:headbang:
