Well I just picked up a 1997 Legacy L 2.2 as my daily driver. It drives as nice as my old 95 Legacy and my 2003 Legacy. My questions are: 1. Would this be a phase 1 or phase 2 engine? On the carfax, it stated that the car was purchased in the end of 1996. 2. Does this engine have head gasket issues, or does that just happen on the 2.5's? Other than that, I think I'm pretty psyched. Purchased from a dealer with 119k for $2.6k. I'm looking forward to the next 100k miles.

Someone is selling a 97 Legacy LS for $2400. The car had been in an accident in 04 where the engine was replaced. The car runs fine and there are no leaks. I don't know the mileage when the engine was replaced and how many miles were put on the new engine. The TB/water pump have never been replaced. Also, there is an 18" crack on the windshield and one of the front wiper motors is shot. What would you offer for this car or would you just turn and run?

There was a service history, but the car was previously owned in PA. It does show that the 37500 wasn't done, but the car was sold at 39000 to the dealer. Should I just get the 37500 done now or just wait for the 45000? I get 4 free oil changes a year for the life of the car, so that's pretty cool too.

Is the maintenance for the 2k3 same as a 95? It was bought used "certified" with 39900 on it when the dealer got it in November and 41000 on it when I drove off with it. Should I do any maintenance off the bat? Are the plugs hard to get at? My 95 Legacy was a breeze. If someone could post the maintenance schedule for me, that would be great. Thanx, Pete

The shoulder belt comes from the roof to a connector on the seat (looks like a permanent connection). Then the latch hangs between the roof and the connector to another connector. If I release the connector, the belt rides diagonally from the connector on the seat to the roof. If there was a way to release this connector to go back into the roof, then my problems would be solved. I guess most people just deal with this on the wagon? My car didn't come with the manuals (bought used). Pete

Pretty psyched getting the first of hopefully 2 "new" soobies. Just got a silver 2003 L Special Edition with 41K on it. Rides really nice. My second should be a 95 Legacy LS sedan - hopefully my commuter car where the 03 will be the family weekend car. I really like the 2.5 - just have to see if my gas mileage will be decent...
