  1. Well I just picked up a 1997 Legacy L 2.2 as my daily driver. It drives as nice as my old 95 Legacy and my 2003 Legacy. My questions are: 1. Would this be a phase 1 or phase 2 engine? On the carfax, it stated that the car was purchased in the end of 1996. 2. Does this engine have head gasket issues, or does that just happen on the 2.5's? Other than that, I think I'm pretty psyched. Purchased from a dealer with 119k for $2.6k. I'm looking forward to the next 100k miles.
  2. Well my garage is 10x20, so once the car is in, it's hard to move around. My driveway is on an incline and I would rather work on a level surface. I thought I read that there were actually garages that would rent lifts by the hour. Maybe I was mistaken?
  3. Is the wiper size on a 2003 Legacy the same as a 95 legacy (21 and 19 inches)? It was raining today and my driver wiper blade is shot.
  4. Someone is selling a 97 Legacy LS for $2400. The car had been in an accident in 04 where the engine was replaced. The car runs fine and there are no leaks. I don't know the mileage when the engine was replaced and how many miles were put on the new engine. The TB/water pump have never been replaced. Also, there is an 18" crack on the windshield and one of the front wiper motors is shot. What would you offer for this car or would you just turn and run?
  5. Does anyone know if there are any garages that rent lifts so you can do your own car work in the NYC area? Where would I look to find this - yellow pages?
  6. How do you aim the headlights on a 2k3 legacy? I haven't had time to look, but one is pretty much straight, while the other is pointing down way low. At first I thought it was a bulb issue, but I figured I'd check the aiming first.
  7. So the car I bought came with the remaining power train warranty, but not the 3y/36000. There was no mention in the contract or pricing regarding any "extended" waranty. For what it's worth, most of the basic stuff, I will do myself, except fluid changes.
  8. There was a service history, but the car was previously owned in PA. It does show that the 37500 wasn't done, but the car was sold at 39000 to the dealer. Should I just get the 37500 done now or just wait for the 45000? I get 4 free oil changes a year for the life of the car, so that's pretty cool too.
  9. Thanx Ferret - I just did that and got all the info that I needed. You guys Rock!!!
  10. Is the maintenance for the 2k3 same as a 95? It was bought used "certified" with 39900 on it when the dealer got it in November and 41000 on it when I drove off with it. Should I do any maintenance off the bat? Are the plugs hard to get at? My 95 Legacy was a breeze. If someone could post the maintenance schedule for me, that would be great. Thanx, Pete
  11. The shoulder belt comes from the roof to a connector on the seat (looks like a permanent connection). Then the latch hangs between the roof and the connector to another connector. If I release the connector, the belt rides diagonally from the connector on the seat to the roof. If there was a way to release this connector to go back into the roof, then my problems would be solved. I guess most people just deal with this on the wagon? My car didn't come with the manuals (bought used). Pete
  12. Hey nipper - I'm in northern NJ and gas is still $2.60 where I'm at. I don't think it will stay there for long, but there's always about a .30 cents difference between where I'm at and NYC.
  13. I'm actually gonna really drive it today as yesterday was my wife's day with it. Gonna fill the tank and do about 80 miles round trip at 65. Can't wait to see what this puppy can do. My Ford Taurus 3.8 gave me about 20mpg highway doing 70, so this one should be much better.
  14. So Nipper, I guess that means it is okay to mount the ezpass on the "dotted decal" above the rear view mirror. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Pete
  15. Is it possible to remove the rear center seatbelt/shoulder strap? No one will use it for now, and it's sort of annoying to see it in the rear view mirror. Also, where can I find the manuals and maintenance schedule for a 2003 Legacy. I got mine used and the manuals didn't come with it. Thanx
  16. My 2k3 legacy has like a decal above the rear view mirror (just dots - not sure what it is for). Is it okay to mount an EZ pass on it, or does the pass have to be on a clear part of the windshield?
  17. What is the effort in swapping out the radio in a 2003 Legacy SE? My 95 was really easy, but the 2003 has the wood trim. Thanx, Pete
  18. Pretty psyched getting the first of hopefully 2 "new" soobies. Just got a silver 2003 L Special Edition with 41K on it. Rides really nice. My second should be a 95 Legacy LS sedan - hopefully my commuter car where the 03 will be the family weekend car. I really like the 2.5 - just have to see if my gas mileage will be decent...
  19. Thanx for the info Todd. I just wanted to make sure it was a good price. My last 95 Legacy wagon cost me $4200 in 2003 with 100K miles. I just needed something to compare.
