I was also wondering what kind of mileage do the xt6's typically get?
-
Thanks for all the info, I might stick with the 4 cyl's for now, cheaper and easy to find parts for.
-
Hey, was just looking at an 88 XT6 4WD on CL and was wondering if these are pretty good cars, all my Suubs are EA81 & EA82, not familiar with the 6 cyl. Pros and cons for these cars. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey all, thanks to everyone that helped me out on here, and for the USMR section, re-did the timing belts and the car runs great now. Thanks again, Shawn
-
I will redo the belts tommorow, and double check everything, it's just really hard to see that little hole on the cam pully and tell if it's absolutely on top, at least the one on the driver side. Thanks for all the input, from the sound of it that's probably the problem.
-
When I was setting the pullies to put the timing belts back on I was wondering how close to dead on these had to be, appearently dead on. It was a little hard to see the mark on the driver side shaft pully, I could verywell be a notch or two off. I'll have to check all of that out when I get off work. Thanks
-
The tensioners looked ok as far as they seemed to tension the belts when I tightened them. I'll have to go look at them again tommorow since the car is actually at my brother-in laws, it was a lot closer to tow to.
-
Well I replaced the timing belts and the other two belts while I was at it, car started right up except now it almost sounds like a leak or knocking. Stange thing is it didn't overheat and I coasted the car of the road as soon as it threw the belt, had it towed. Sounds like its coming from the same side as the belt broke. Car only has 63k mi. on it. Any ideas what might have happened?
-
Thanks, I will, In also think I'll leave the cover off. What a pain in the rump.
-
Thanks, I just got the cover off the timing belt and it's broken, looks pretty easy to replace and I did just download the replacement article from the USRM. Thank you very much for the help.

The code info would be correct, would the timing belt prohibit the rotor on the distributor to not rotate?
-
Hello all, I have an 87 GL sedan with the 1.8 spfi engine. Driving down I-5 and the engine died, I checked the fuel pump and it kicks on when you turn the key also just replace fuel filter, I have power to the coil but no power to the plugs. I poped the distributor cap and cranked the motor, the rotor does not spin, any ideas I am not to terribly knowledgable on the whole distributor unit, and I have been looking both on here and in my manuals. This just added, I checked the code and it flashes 7 times with a pause in between just flashing the 7 flashes over and over. Thanks for any help, Shawn

That looks like my car, exept nicer . Thanks for the info.

It's actually a 5 spd but I have seen very few of these cars around, so I did'nt know how hard it would be to find parts. the guy who had it before ran it through a ditch and banged up the passenger side front fender, it also needs a new gasket around the rear window. Also was wondering what the 10 following the gl designates, I have been searching around but haven't found any good explenation.
-
I offered the owner $100 for the car and he sold it. It's an 84' GL10, he says it was running great, blew a head gasket and hasn't had time to work on it, so I will be tearing into the engine very soon to see about getting it running. Anyone know of any good parts yards in western WA?
-
Well if nothing else, it at least has sweet alloy wheels on it, if the cars not salvageable I could at least put the wheels on one of my other Suubs. Thanks for all the input guys.
-
Thanks, that's good to know, I guess I will find out more tommorow as to it's specific make and year.
-
Hello all, there is a GL Hard top looks to be early 80's vintage parked about a mile from my house, very straight rust free body, it's been sitting for about 1 1/2 years so I would assume it isn't running. Does anyone know much about this particular model of Suub, I was thinking of going and inquiring about it tommorow but I pretty much know nothing about that particular model, if it's worth loking into or if it was a problem model. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
-
Thanks for the info, it was an engine out of a totaled Impreza, sounds like more work than it's worth as ppposed to just finding another ea82.
-
I have an 86 4wd wagon with carbed E82 engine, anyone know of any problems/difficulties in swapping with a 1.8L out of an 95 AWD Impreza. Thanks for any input.
-
Sorry wrong post.
-
I'm going to start tearing into the engine pretty soon, hope it's as simple as just the heads. Bought the car for $100, so can't go too wrong with that.
-
Thanks guys for all of the info, sound fairly painless price wise, I am heading up to pick the car up today, 87 5-speed awd wagon very stright and clean 157k.
-
Thanks for the info, I am just wondering how much I might be into it if the heads or the block does have to be machined. Also are the head gaskets blowing a pretty common problem on these engines, seems like I see a lot that say they have blow head gasket, my current Suub has never had any problems.
-
Looking at a car that needs a new head gasket, EA82. I would probably have the heads machined while I was at it as to not repeat the problem any time soon. Anyone know what the going rate to have heads ground is and where a good place would be, anywhere between Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. Thanks for any info.
