  1. Well, just an update. I sprayed carb cleaner down the carb and around it. Now it runs fine. Aint that something.
  2. I tried this, and I could not see anything moving. The choke plate is the very top plate, with the two tiny screws in it? It is always open... I'm going to try and run seafoam or something through it tommorow and see if that helps.
  3. I have an 86 GL with the Carb'd EA82 motor. It runs fine for the first 10 minutes of so of driving, but after that it starts stumbling. It then gets progressivly worse, losing all of its power while also sounding pretty unhealthy. If I park it and let it sit overnight, its fine again...until I drive it for about 10 minutes. I'm guessing this has something to do with the automatic choke? I first thought it needed a cap and rotor...but now I'm not sure. Let me know what you think...
  4. Independent suspension generally has more ground clearance...solid axles generally have more suspension travel. Also, the amount of ground clearance you have is a function of tire size...I have yet to see a subaru with independent suspension on anything more than 31's. It all depends on what you are doing/how much you want to invest into a project. Chux - we will again have to get out the measuring stick to compare clearance in the middle. I HIGHLY doubt our subarus have as much clearance in the middle as my YJ on 35's...because the diff clearance is identical...and I can fit a dang wheelbarrel underneath it. Also, full size trucks may have alot of clearance in the center...but they have retarded long wheelbases. It pretty much cancels it out. However, if you have a shortwheelbase vehicle, like a Wrangler or Samarai, it generally requires that the wheelbase to be lenthened a little for stability on things like hill climbs. All wheeling rigs have their strongpoints and weakpoints. But we all know...wheeling in a grocery getter > *
  5. I'd be that other one. How much for a 4" EA-82 lift?
  6. I'll be there...but with my Jeep, since the wagon still needs a lift and tires.
  7. That also depends on gearing. My Blue Monster has an auto and decelerates almost to a stop down a steep hill in 1st gear. When you are doing insane rock crawling and technical stuff...you want an auto. Too bad Subaru didnt make a HD auto with low range. That would be pizzimp.
  8. Swapping to a dual range seems the only plausable proposition to me. P.S. I cannot imagine wheeling a subaru without dual range. Ever.
  9. Alright, well that needs to be replaced to convert to EFI anyways, so...goodbye carb!
  10. Well, actually, I played around with it after getting back from finals today. If I blip the throttle about 20 times before turning it over it actually starts and runs for a couple seconds, but it just dies right away. ???
  11. Oh yeah ooops. PS get on aim so we can talk about this.
  12. Well, I finished putting back together my EA82 GL...but its not starting. It has spark and compression, but the plugs are dry. Its just a friggin carb, so I cant imagine what could be causing something like this. Can someone maybe take a picture of their motor so I can see where the fuel lines run? I put this whole god damn thing together without any past experience with the motor or diagrams, so I'm almost positive I've hooked something up wrong with this maze of lines. I'm also assuming the fuel pump is in the tank? I don't know...if I could get any help, I would be very thankful. Nate
  13. Does anyone know the head bolt torque specs for the EA82 motor off hand? I also need the torque specs for the valve cover and the intake manifold to head bolts. I was going to go get a haynes manual today, but I'm too late, and I need to get this motor together tonight. Thanks guys
  14. Heh...actually MY mustang does not have 4 link rear suspension I was just giving you some comparison to my Jeep...I have about 6 inches of lift with 35's and most of you guys running 29's have more axle clearance than I do And, I'm in the process of buying a GL wagon like Chux's, so I believe I'm in the right place
  15. 13 inches from ground to both front and rear diffs with 35's. You people and your IRS/IFS. Bumpers are 3 and 1/2 feet from ground.
  16. ...Almost! And I dunno chux, you have some skillz!
  17. You really have no idea how many mean (awesome) things chux did with that wagon. I'm pretty sure nobody on this website can run a subaru off road as well as he can. My Jeep this year is going to have 10 inches of lift and lockers, and I have no doubt that the chuxwagon will go pretty much anywhere my jeep will go.
  18. I was angry my jeep was being retarded. It will be running this week though...hopefully we get together to go wheeling sometime soon!
