  1. Moms 01 Forest made some funky noises when you gave it more then slow gas pedal pressure. n e ways sounded like lifters or spark knock. New plugs and wires made it go away. Also made the exhaust leak quiet down. mileage is way up and its super smooth and quiet.
  2. dunno how it works for the Sub but on my 3rd gen thoes with the electronic speedo have limiters. There is no drive cable. I was mucho luck to not have that, though I am smart and run Z rated tires, rated to 165mph isn't really smart though to disable the speed limiter then skimp on tires. A tire rated for 112 might do 120 fine but 4 how many times? I don't wanna know.
  3. I did the filter n fluid change to the 01 forest last week. I just wonder how many time any of ya changed it? Pan only drains out about 5 quarts. I know there is much more fluid in there. Was thinking about changing it again real soon. Water the rest down with another fresh 5 quarts.
  4. Well I ended up doing a quick fix until the axel needs changed. I know once torn they say just chang em but, its work fine still. Ill wait. But got a tip fro ma guy who done similar. he said don't buy the quick boot. Buy a reg boot and split it yourself. Then super glue it back together. [Which is a stong weld.] Then use some special black rubber cement over that. Well I did all that plus I used lots n lots of zip ties. Two on each end and one in each valley to make sure it holds it form. Not tight though, just making it hold shape. Tis working great. Gonna soak the others down ever so often with black magic tire wet, Its silicone based and will keep them plyable.
  5. That funny but true. Was a show not long ago how lots of thieves use tow companies to steal for them. Cause most will take your money and your word and just move it from here to there as long as ya pay.

  7. Check the local laws out. If it is stolen the police will haul it away but just abandoned you can keep it after 30 days. I got a Escort like that one. Was a stolen car but it had been writen off and wasn't wanted anymore. Ran good, stirpped it for parts. Was a same sort of deal, someone left it in the side lot of a buddies yard. Wasn't stolen so cops didn't care what happened to it.
  8. I dunno if this will help ya but there is allot of good info in this article that can surly help ya understand the basics. "You can build a quiet exhaust system that performs almost like open headers." By Jim Hand & Tom Hand [This article first appeared in Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine. Permission to publish it on the Internet was granted by the magazine and the authors to fellow Pontiac enthusiast and fellow webmaster, Eric Douthitt (The Pontiac Garage). 9. Ya know I had thought that for a while cause in one of the shots in the commercial you can see it spark. And from the spark it looked powerful. Maybe it just like a mini stun gun. Why it doesn't get hot. Just hi volts.
  10. Bingo Bango that or pay $75-100 to get the engin bay detailed by a shop that goes through it daily and knows what not to get wet. Sounds pricy but they do just as good of a job as if they did your inside. Makes the car look brand new under the hood.
  11. WD-40 is made was made just to do that. Its not a lube of any kind. Sold as one but its not. It was designed and made to get the water out of ign systems for the military. formula #40 was the ticket. God know what the first 39 did under test. Probably what your conserned about.
  12. Spray it all down with WD-40, its what it was designed for. Water Drier formula #40 But never use it for a lube, get PBblast
  13. good tip, id probably would of just some some big hose clamps. Plastic ties can hold just as well and not risk cutting them.
  14. Thats the catch with cheap dino oil. Nothing wrong with it but ya should change it more often.
  15. Should note the Rotella did it magix in about 200 miles in my Firebird. It was change back to reg 20-50 like before soon as I noticed with no changes. Even added some lucas to make it super thick, no change. Rotella is 15-40 only.
  16. I ran some Rotella through Moms Sub and my Firebird. It was a mistake in the Firebird. Rotella is some good oil with heavy duty cleaning agents like ATF.[Why folks do the ATF trick for it cleaning agents. ] Lots of motor builder swear by it but they are build old muscle iron. But my 220,000 mile Firebird that had a constant 40 psi of oil for 7 years dropped to 20psi. The rotella cleaned to well. Never used seafoam in oil but its is monster hugh in the bike world. First thing ya do if ya got a funky runner. Most times a bottle of that run through the gas will cure all sitting problems.
  17. Since I found such a helpful site thought Id ask. Moms Sub needs a bank3 4 wire O2. Didn't know there was even a 4 wire out. Had bought her a uni 3 wire bosche kit off ebay for $20 but I'm one wire short. Just thought I should ask to make sure before I buy another $20 Bosche uni 4 wire kit. AZ wants $60+ for the sucker Also the O2 or light saying the bank 3 O2 was bad, was after I ran some marvelous mystery oil in the gas. At first I was able to make the light go out if I drove the car and got on it hard. Kinda blew it out. But its on constant now and gonna change it.
  18. Other reason is I hate the stock air box. Getting the filter back in and the boxed close is darn near impossiable. Can't get the right cornor to shut, like it wont snap together right.
  19. This is the tall version of the Forest and My Mom doesn't drive in 3feet of water, should be fine. Intake hose is more then waist hi. And the only thing deep I drive it in is snow . Man I love snow and AWD. Doesn't matter how deep it is, drive as slow as ya want n it just plows through.
  20. Ok Im really dumb, I know some bikes n cars but whats a DOJ I should know. Its probably starin me in the face making me look really dumb.......... And thanks for all the help so far. I must applaude ya guys cause I first found that other subaru forum and have gone there several times with problems over the past year and was just snubbed. Like 900 people online n no help. I got fed up and it took some diggin to find this site. I had a brain fart n search for message board, if ya just search Sub forum, ya only find one place and they suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Told em so too:) Posted a link to here. Probably banned. There's a forum for everything I own or work on with good helpful folks ViragoTech.com BuickThunder.com ThirdGenChat.org n now ultimatesubaru.org Cause Im not visitng that other Sub forum n e more. And I hope to own this 01 Forest one day and stick a turbo on it.
  21. Well upon closer look it is just grease in there. Trans fluid is full but yea it is, is line for changing. got the special $16 filter not long ago. Still need to find out how much it holds before I change it. Hate to come up short and need a 2nd store run. any clue on that? Plan to do the Diffs too but I know that's 4-5 qurts each, or so AZ web site says. Isn't there a transfer case somewhere too on the AWDs? Probably 80-90 like the diffs, is that hard to change? Got over 90,000 n I do wanna change it all. So N E Ways once I stripped most of the stuff from the side of the engine I could get at the boot easy from the top. [rained all day, no garage]. Cleaned it well and used half a tube of clear silicone to blob over the crack. [i felt around inside and there is plenty of grease.] I dId it so the crack was on top, so the silicone will only need to sqish on the rotate. Which should keep it from comin lose till boot gets here Tue. Ordered the quick boot and will put it on with the split on the other side of siliconed split. N silicone the sucker on. Then will make sure and get it in the shop before winter to have it fixed right. If Im gonna change the axle, Ill let the CV wear some more first. Not bad yet. And with CVs its always yet. Changing the plugs n wires wasn't to awful. Plugs needed it bad. Almost look original they were so worn down but funny how it still ran fine. N older car would of died from plugs bieng so worn. I put in bosche platinums, is that ok? I hear they aren't good for turbo cars but..... Its not a turbo. Though I did pounder getting some rubber/plastic spray to put on the other CV to keep it from going. Spray a bunch of black magic on it.
