  1. Gonna put a 2.7 in a 88 wagon and can't find links to other members conversion , any help would be great. Thanks alot.
  2. Took apart my 98 ej 25 for head gasket problem. I took a picture to show what I believe to be the cause. Note the wall thickness between cylinder wall and water jacket; 1/4 to 5/16 in.I Can't see any way this design can be reliable.
  3. Looks like you have a real fun toy there!! G. D. Is right you do want forged pistons, but even the best pistons and can only handle so much abuse ( being run lean) when you start adding boost you need to add fuel. Would like to know what fuel system your running, and can only assume from picture. When you rebuilt engine I would advise using a two stage fuel pump and pressure sensitive regulator. the Mallory electric is adjustable on the low side and runs up to 37 psi. on the high side along with a mallory boost sensitive pressure regulator that is vacum activated, using a return fuel line to your tank. P.S the set up I mentioned is expensive around $400 there are others that can be researched. Good luck and have fun...
  4. I have a 4spd D/R manual I was gonna use in my 82 brat but I might use one of my 5spd D/R instead. Let me know which one you want to use and maybe I can help you out.
  5. It's possible from the big oil leak on the ground when she parked it that the engine might not of had any problems when you bought it and her lack of cheking the oil before driving it till it died is all that happened.( well designed and not so well designed engines all need oil ) Justy engines are not that hard to find and no one wants them , It still would make a fun little pocket rocket with a blow thru turbo!!
  6. Your right the metro is completely different than the justy engine, but if you want to use a justy engine with out the electronics the metro ditributor will work on a justy engine with minor mods and if you use a suzuki intake manifold you can use a web carb on the justy engine.
  7. I don't know if you can find out or anyone else might know what would make the distributor go out on a 88 E.F.I. system. I'am guessing maybe the guy you bought the car from switched the wires going into the coil in an attempt to fix the timing problem caused by timimg belts not done properly ! I am really curious if that or something else would cause the distributor to stop firing. Hey if you don't want to mess around changing the double pulley on your alternator I my have a good one with a single pulley I'll trade you !! Good luck!!
  8. How's it going, just checking in I'll be home saturday and I have the afternoon booked up with my boy so if you still need help getting the wagon running let me know and I can stop by saturday evening on my way home. I'am hoping you already got it running so we can go play in the snow with the brat's!!
  9. Now that is a clean brat. Sorry i havn't been on in forever i forgot my password (It bits getting old) I'll hook you up with the five speed and rear end when your ready!Would like to go for a winter run in the snow soon with you and kingcrab and who ever else in ther area is around there is a lot of neat places to go, mybe closer to Christmas when everyone has time.
  10. Have 98 forester with 184,000 miles bought at 107,000. I don't know if timing belts have been done. I want to replace in next couple of days, What is a good manual to use and where can i find it. Thanks
  11. I hate to beat a dead horse but this is the first time i have seen this brat. My comments on it are i really think its cool. As far as a custom vehicles go it's kinda like art , in this case this brat is this persons masterpiece.
  12. Have 82 Gl came with third light.I don't know all the differences but did a complete restoration on it and was able to adapt parts from wagons hatch backs even some latter model vechicles "ea82 stuff". Buy it, enjoy it, keep it alive !
  13. I so wish my brat was still in so cal. at my brothers house, but brought it home last summer. I took it two years ago to ocotillo wells with sand rails and bikes. One day went on day trip and little kids couldn't keep up so i got stuck hauling nephews around, didn't have and problem keeping up with rails and bikes. Would like to go so cal. dessert again. Can't make it this trip but mybe next time.
  14. Don't know about ej22, but i'am building sand rail with a ej27 mid engine. Ran into a bunch of guys last summer in Flagstaff running ej27 in sand rails with carbs and turbo's," old school ". They took their distributors apart and machined them to house the internals of a chey six cylinder "hei" unit , rotation is opposite direction. It can be done on four cylinder too.
  15. Might be theromostat, if i'am not sure i'll put it in a pot of water and if you have a pulp thermomator , bring the water to a boil if thermostat isn't fully open well before you see small bubbles in pot, It's opening to late. Pulp thermomator will let you know correct temp.
  16. Ok removed ignition housing, also removed one out of hatch back. was'nt to difficult, but sure would have been alot easier if tumbler assembly was replacable. Thanks again to all for help.
  17. Thanks to all i sure was hoping there was an easy way to change.I thought i might have miss a hidden pin in ignition so i could pull tumblers.gonna pull steering mech. and change.
  18. I'am confused; It looks like i need to pull the steering shaft if i have to change the whole ignition assembly, there is'nt a way to just pull the tumblers out and replace.
  19. Ignition switch on my 82 brat won't turn to off position. I have a 84 hatch back with good switch, any help on easy way to replace it. Is there any kind of pin to release tumbler assembly, Alternative looks like a lot of unnecessary work.
  20. I have to drive 50 miles to town to get one, so one year mybe 11 or 12 years ago broke off broom handle and turned it down on lathe, i still have it in my tool box, works great.I like the idea of cutting off a input shaft on old tranny.
  21. I don't know anything about this head gasket problem, but my wife has a 98 forester with a 2.5 engine that has 186,00 miles, guess i'll be replacing head gasket when and if it goes out.The ony thing i know is for all the time everyone has spent talking about this i could have most of the repair already completed.
  22. Sorry i can't be more help with front bumper, but i built it.I really didn't have any trouble making it, If you know anyone in your area that has a pipe bender and can weld you can make one your self.If you wan't to copy it i can get some measurments and good close up pictures of bumper, just let me know.I'am a truck driver so i don't check my computer to often, but i will reply when ever i am home.
  23. I don't care for the look with the top on either, but when "mykingcrab" owned it he made it a walk through so being in missouri the top stay's on in the winter.Have to be careful living in the ozarks in the summer with top off rain can come up unexpected.
