  2. The link to the thread with the shifter bushing part numbers is dead. The guy at the subaru dealership only could get me part numbers for a gen 2, any possibilities i could get those part numbers? -Kurt
  3. I have been wondering the same thing, sure would make for better parallel parking. lemme know what you find out -Kurt 81 Brat GL
  4. Hey I was just wondering if anybody knows what size thread it is that those emission dealies that plug into the exhaust spacers are, I would like to remove these and plug them. Or maybe I should just remove the spacer altogether. If I removed them, im wondering if My Header will still fit properly. (The header is from a later model, it got installed at an exhaust shop and they just happened to have it laying around. I know that they had to heat it up and bend it to make it work. I guess removing them would give me another inch of clearance from my header, that sounds desireable since that would be the first thing to hit a stump. (EA81) thanks, Kurt
  5. So I am in the middle of swapping out an ea81 manifold for an ea82 manifold, there are these 2 hoses on the front of the engine that I am not sure what to do with. (pics here) http://picasaweb.google.com/KurtAbersold/HosesForBRAT I have had the hole in the manifold by the carb heli-arced shut and the hose barb that went to it is plugged. can somebody tell me what I need to do with these two hoses, I have searched the articles and came up empty. Any help appreciated thanks, -Kurt

    snorkel

the weber part number for the snorkel adapter is 99010.357 expect to pay around $110 for it (kinda steep) also you would need to get some sort of air filter between the snorkel and the carb (custom)
  7. will a weber clear the hood of a gen 1 with a ea81 engine and a ea82 intake manifold on it? thanks, -Kurt
  8. will a weber fit in a gen 1 with a ea81 mounted on a ea82 intake manifold?
  9. Can you fit the "third eye" in a first gen brat?
  10. I am planning on putting A/C back on the '81 BRAT. What i mean by back on, is that it looks like it once had A/C and it was stripped off. Now that I may be moving to Phoenix for work A/C is a necessity. I have read around and found out that There are two types of A/C systems the factory one and the dealer option one. I didn't see a sticker anywhere that says ready for dealer install. If this had A/C they really stripped it all, there is no condenser, no reciever drier no brackets for the comp. So I am looking to find out what years/makes/models I can get A/C stuff from. I have some pics of under the hood and a pic of the heater controls if that would help a trained eye. I really wanna get this A/C going though, so any help is much appreciated. And for the pics: Wiring connectors on the passenger side next to strut Vacuum deal next to firewall on passenger side Single cooling fan on radiator A/C control in dash anything helps, Thanks Kurt Abersold '81 Brat
  11. I am starting to look for a new tranny for my brat, was wondering what models I can look for that will have the same tranny. Mine is in a '81 Brat EA81 with a 4Spd D/R. Any info appreciated thanks, -Kurt
  12. If the module was bad wouldn't still not run after a hotwire?
  13. Right after I got my '81 BRAT I went and did a tune up new plugs, good wires, new coil, and I got that ea81 runnin like a beast (despite the oil leak on the oil pump, and the one on the pan gasket, I think). I stopped by a buddies house later that day and when it was time to go, No start.....hmmm. After checking the carb for fuel I checked the spark....It was DEAD No voltage to the coil was the problem, so I hot-wired the car and made my way home. 4 months later, its still hotwired (with a relay and switch at least!). Everything in the dash works fine except the tach, its all jumpy and sometimes reads next to nothing, and it bounces when I use my blinker. I read somwhere in the USRM that a bouncy tach can be a sign of distributor failure. Was wondering about what my problem could be? thanks, Kurt
  14. Yeah I ran wire from the +post to the + on the coil, I checked the 8 glass fuses under the dash on the drivers side.

  16. OK, so I broke off the bleeder valve in the caliper, and then I broke an easy out in the bleeder valve, and then my drill bit slipped when i was trying to drill out the easy out, and ruined the threads on my Drivers side caliper. Im wondering if there is anybody out there who has the Calipers for the non vented rotors sitting around after doing the conversion to vented rotors. Please let me know if you have the part available anybody. It would be much appreciated thanks, -Kurt
  17. dang i totally need a new windshield gasket, I figured the local auto glass dealer could help me out, could somebody fill me in on this? thanks, -kurt
  18. Does anybody know of a manufacturer that makes 1st Gen Axles? I can't seem to get my hands on any so far -Kurt
  19. could also be from exhaust heat from the cat, becuase of no heatshield
  20. Yeah I already tried that, the axle would be all the way in if the pin is in it right? im getting pretty convinced that they are too long I have checked out several manufacturers online catalogs and they are all different. The parts store I got the axles from ordered another axle from a different company but the number covers 78-87. My cores are long gone or I would just go to schmucks and get the right ones cause they get a different brand that has different axles for different years. The moral to this story is don't do what i did, and not place the axles side by side for a comparison. what a bummer
  21. hmmm, well im stumped. Here is what i know: The BRAT is a Gen 1 The BRAT has a EA81 The Brat has the front suspension found in 75-79 models The Axle that is Listed for the '81 BRAT is CV8004 which is a Gen2/EA81 Axle The Axle for 78-79 BRAT is a CV8008 I can not for the life of me get everything together with the EA81 Axles, I have tried every order of reassembely possible, i think. So my conclusion is that I have to wait for the Parts store to get the shorter axles. D'oh!, D'oh! indeed. -helpless in Olympia
  22. Well the '81 brat has gen 1 body with ea81 and 4spd D/R Tranny, the axle looked like it was all the way thru the hub, the lip on the axle goes all the way into the inner seal
  23. So I hit the books and noticed that the diagram for the suspension on my '81 brat says 75-79 models, and I checked the part numbers on that year range and it came up with a different shaft, I currently have mevotech axles part no. CV8004 and I am thinking maybe I need CV 8008 which is the part number listed for 78-79 models, the think is I can't get the CV8008 and the cross reference shows the same cardone number for both of those mevotech numbers the cardone number is 60-7015. I think im in over my head, the cores are long gone been shipped back to my stores supplier, so there is no comparing . kinda odd that the cardone number is supposed to fit both numbers from mevotech
  24. I have been fighting with my 81 brat all day today, I can't seem to get it back together. I think the axles may be too long. I removed the control arm to frame mounting bolt and got it all together but when it came time to re-attch the control arm it was about an inch away and it would not budge. Please help me, I have to get this thing goin for work on monday, I didn't think to compare the old axles before i returned them as cores. they looked the same but I didn't measure. Well im gonna go back out there and get dirty some more, maybe ill have a revelation of some sort. -the helpless noob
