I've been suckered....maybe a bit winded
kecksnext replied to kecksnext's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Syphon, That's just it, I didn't want a big to do just some cooperation would've been nice. I didn't scream refund when this happened. I understand I'm buying a used car but I was under the impression that it would at least make it home. Am I an rump roast for thinking that? The fact that he won't return my calls or emails is a little unsettling. I like to think golden rule in these situations but if I can't get a call returned I can't help but think the worst. I want to work things out but that takes 2. Anyway, mark the board ....I'm a jackass. -

Thanks for the responses but, it's about 5 degrees here and I have no garage or desire to switch over to coil overs just yet. A lot off stuff that came up with the switch said how the handling went to crap after the switch as well. If someone could point me in the right direction for troubleshooting the air system that would be great. Thanks again for the reply's. -Michael -
I bought Ian's (outdoorrock's) XT6 Friday(91 XT6 5sp AWD). On the way home the rear suspension decided to take a dump. I've never owned anything other than an EA81 besides the G-friends 96 Imprezza and have zero knowledge of the air suspension. I did some research before I decided to buy and knew there was a tendancy for the air suspension to fail but I at least thought I would make it home. Anyway, I was not expecting perfection by any stretch but I didn't pay for a car with a shot suspension. I tried to talk to Ian to figure out a soulution but I fear I am stuck holding the perverbial pecker in my hands. So now I have a $1500 brick in the driveway and a feeling that trusting people is a bad thing. I usually take people for their word and let time sort things out. I'm not a tool by any means and have had quite a colored life but, I feel more and more disappointed by my experiences with people in general. I'm sorry if this is a rant and should probably be in the off topic forum but I guess what I would like to know is ....does anyone, could anyone give me some insight into where to even start? I searched old posts everywhere from here to xt6.org and the Yahoo xt site. Everyone says to swap to coil over's but I think that's a bit of a cop out(no offense) especially since I bought this car to be my daily no hassle driver for the winter since I don't have a garage and wrenching in 5 degree weather is kind of a turn off. Anyway, I 'm sorry if this is too long or retarded but I needed to say something before I internally combusted. On a good note....Eagles are on their way to Houston. Bret who? Thanks for listening to a (fill in the blank)

Edrach's post on axel's kicks A !! Don't know the guy from a can of paint but that post is the SH..!! Just gotta put my 2 cents in for Skip...Refering people to the old post is a sweet deal. For those that don't know,Skip's been here since 1842 and other's cry where Skip shines. Nice showing Brother. BTW, that's a compliment. I may have had a cocktail or 6

The parts were from my parts car. I just don't think after replacing everything that the noise would be exactly the same. A little too coincidental for me. I mean no change what so ever. Has to be something I'm missing. Thanks for all the good ideas. You all make me proud to own a Sube and I can always count on some genuine responses. Thanks all.

Edrach, you nailed the symtoms correctly, on the gas scary, off the gas nothin. I can make it proprtionally less loud(if that makes any sense)if I back off the throttle a little it will sound less terrifying. I did change the axels out. Same symptoms though. It's very loud and gets louder with the overall speed of the vehicle. For example, it'll be loud at 25mph in3rd gear but not half as loud as 50mph in 4th gear. What are the odds of 2 axel replacements with the same results? PhatBrat-Thanks for the offer, although I don't think I can handle swappin' tranny's at this point without a garage. Gettin' too damn cold and we're gettin' snow tonight.:madder:

This is a continuation from my other post but I got a whole new set of problems. I just replaced the axel and bearings. Noise is still there. I jacked the front end up and tried to isolate the noise. Sound is coming from the driver side of the tranny while in gear. Is this as bad as I think it is? I checked the tranny fluid and it was about an inch above the full mark(never checked til now) and looked tan and a little foamy (shouldn't it look like oil?). I have zero knowledge about transmissions. It shifts fine but when on the throttle in gear it makes a hell of a racket. I can only guess it has some kind of bearing in the tranny where the nub that the axel connects to is? I would really appreciate any thoughts or insight.

Thanks for all the replies people. I'm gonna give it a whack Saturday as we may be getting a little errr uhhh powduh Sunday. I was thinking about just swapping the whole thing out with 1 from an 82 Brat. Is there a difference between auto and manual? I should think not but I better ask anyway before I find out otherwise and end up tossing a 10 pounder into traffic. BTW Lostwater how's trix? Hope life is finding you and your family well.

Snow Video with RX, OBS, SVX
kecksnext replied to alcyone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice video....but, it could've used a couple doughnut shots. -
Thanks for the reply's. Thing is, everything was replaced but the wheel bearings (strut, axel, rotor, caliper). I would think I would know immediately if these were to blame but this has just come up after 1 week. Yesterday a little hum...today, louder than the radio. Kinda freaked me out a bit. Is there a trick to getting the bearings out or is it just smack em? Again, I searched the archives and nothin' bout it that I could find. Anyway, if you feel the need to speak get on it and as always thanks in advance. BTW it made it home.

I just searched for some clues regarding this noise but my symptoms wern't covered that I saw. 85 EA81 Brat Just replaced LH strut and now 1 week later I've got this horrible noise like there is a metal card stuck in the spokes of a 10 speed. It only happens when I'm on the gas....if I let off the gas or hit the clutch it disappears. Is there such a thing as tightening an axel nut too much? Are my bearings shot?CV shot? I don't think I'm gonna make it home from work tonight and that really sux!!:madder: Any insight would be greatly appreciated although I'll still probably break down tonight. Thanks in advance.

Rear Axle Noise Revisited
kecksnext replied to Soobadooba's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just yank the rotor of and see if the splines are worn out inside there. If the axel splines are still good just throw on another rotor and you're gold. Use a pipe wrench to keep the axel from turning and wrench off the castle nut. -
Rear Axle Noise Revisited
kecksnext replied to Soobadooba's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the car was run with a loose enough castle nut, the splines in the rotor would be carved out and no longer fit with the splines on the axel. Replace the rotor and as long as the splines on the shaft are cool you should be too. -
Where should I put my new spoiler?
kecksnext replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you should get 3 more and mount one on each rim. It would create just enough sfetzer force to give you the edge you're looking for.:moon: -
