  1. My buddy just sent me this pic. I really dig the paint job. http://home.comcast.net/~kecksnext/pics/americanbrat.jpg
  2. Running piano wire around the window always worked for me. Use it like a saw....1 person on the inside 1 on the outside.
  3. You might want to find out exactly what's wrong with the air suspension. You may be able to fix it quite easily or you may not. There is a lot of great info here and on the xt6.org site about the air ride. I actually love the air ride and a lot of others prefer to swap it out. Either way whatever you choose there's tons of info on here and the xt6 site about both. Let me know if I can help.
  4. It reminds me of that Chips episode where there's this 2 headed limo driving down the PCH and some guy changes lanes and thinks it comin' right for him and he wrecks it. It was the mysterious case of the driver going the wrong way. I remember Ponch had to do some re-enactment stuff. Does this make me old?
  5. Well, the plan is this. I'm taking Friday and Monday off to see what's what. I'll know by Saturday if I'm parting out or fixing up. I'm pretty sure everything motor wise is fine as I remember turning the car off while I was standing on my head. I'm going to concentrate on checking the frame and body before I make my decision. Thanks to everyone for their concern.
  6. Yeah, I figure a little WD-40 some duct tape and everything will be good as new. The pisser is... after all the trouble I've had fixing the air suspension the damn thing is still standing tall. Whoda known. Anyone have an XT6 for sale?
  7. Driving just a hair over the limit. All the snow we had Friday melted the same day. I was cruising on some back roads and there was a spot where a farmer would cross the road to access his other field. Needless to say this was the only spot that had runoff, the roads were dry all day and by the time I got there it was frozen. DOH!! Lost it immediately. I wanna cry.
  8. Anyone know a good body man? XT6 1 XT6 2 XT6 3 I don't think I'm gonna make the meet
  9. I guess it would depend on driving terrain. I drive mine in the woods a lot so there are a lot of hills. In which case I aim mine a little high so I can see up further(no surprises). Either way I like to see out as far as possible.
  10. I'm still up for the yard run. The more nice weekends we get the more I get the itch. Harry's U-Pull it (and you might go blind)
  11. It's true. Steve and Skip are briliant at this stuff. Don't be discouraged I just got mine up for $15.90. Bad compressor. Does the compressor come on and not inflate the system? Does it inflate sometimes and not others? Does the whole system fail or just certain struts? There is also a wealth of info about the air ride at XT6 Forum . Let me know if I can help.
  12. I'm from Pennsyltuckey. Also, hit the Jersey shore a couple times in the summer.
  13. The light does come on after 10 or 15 minutes. The last time this happened I thought it was related to the cold temperature but it was 45 today.I also found tape residue on the sides of the warning light. The previous owner had placed tape over the warning light at some point(not exactly the fix I'm after).
  14. I've searched a lot about this air ride susp. on this board, yahoo's and XT6's site but haven't found anything for why the compressor won't start. This also happened the day I bought it. Let it sit for 2 1\2 days and it fixed itself. One other time, I had the suspension fail on the way to work only to start it at the end of the day and it was fine. This is really cornfusing me. It was my understanding that a compressor will let you know when it is going to fail i.e. make some pretty nasty sounds. I apologize to everyone if this seems like repost. I did come across a thread where skip had helped someone get their compressor running but they did it via email not on the board. Any help or insight is always appreciated.
  15. Welcome fellow East coaster. I think you'll find at least a couple good peeps close by.
  16. I don't know how but the "Hooter's girl factory inspector" seems to have been dropped from the list. I must fulfill my duty to all people regardless of race, creed or religion to ensure the expectations of all are met. And since I'm relatively close to the whole shebang my offer stands to all who are traveling. I have plenty of room for all weary travelers who want to crash here and drive to the gig together. For those that wanna know... I have around 30 acres and some fire pits here and there.I'll even offer up one of the sube's if someone wants to drive over to make our 25 rig requirement(I want a tent dammit). I cook as well which makes me a triple threat ...I think. There may just be a Friday night mooseknuckler(no offense Moosen's) if I can get a few yay's. And that's yay's not yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay's. Either way count the inspector in.
  17. It's funny you ask cause.........All of my subaru's have broke down at inconvenient places and times....caused me pain that I consider personal.....treated me like a champ when it counts......got me outta the time I said "Dude...we're F@(%d" Made me look like a "RockStar" offroad....helped me get to work all week on time(not that there's anything wrong with that),The sweet blissful warm feeling that I know that nothing could ever go wrong as long as I drive this sweet sweet, ride and have the knowledge that there are crazies out there just like me who enjoy being a minority of sorts. F.Y.I. - This board has created it's own destiny RANT RANT RANT
  18. Hell, I have an 82 with t-tops auto(bad) you can have for 6 beans. Has some rust issues though.
  19. It surges in 2,3 and 4th gear until I hit about 3800 rpm then it takes off. I've done searches and a lot of people seem to think the IAC is at fault. It also stalls occasionally when downshifting. I can predict 99% of the time when it will stall just by seeing how fast the tach needle drops when I depress the clutch. It will drop fast, not a gradual drop to idle. This is my first and only "newer" sube and I don't even know what where or how the IAC looks like. Any and all help is appreciated as always. Just looking for some light. Thanks. -Michael
  20. For what it's worth I have a bunch of keys from 82-87 Subes'. I know a lot of them will work on each other as they've been workrd in considering the age. If you want I'll copy some and send em out to ya.
  21. At the time of the email I was worried about the lack of contact from the seller. I was hanging it out in the cold with no response. I have since heard back from him and have resolved the matter so to speak. I never thought it was sabotage just bad practice. I don't think anyone outside of Nostradomus can predict a failure of that nature. Well I took Monday off to either drive the car back to Maryland or check out the air system. I start the car Monday morning and POW everything is as it should be. WTF over!! I have no idea what forces are at work but it sat flat for 2 1\2 days then one morning it's all good. Has been fine ever since. And I'm under a constant nervous condition now. Please make note I was very pissed at the inception of this thread. Everything has been reolved as far as me and Ian are concerned. I just thought the worst when I was left hangin'. I'm sure these problems will arise again it's just a matter of when now. I love the air suspension(when it works), it handles like it's on rails. I'll save the conversion for when all else fails. Thanks to everyone for their help and effort. I am lost without each and every one of you guys. With that said, I did do 1 fix Saurday morning in 5 degree temps. I used some JB Weld on the rear solenoid next to the front passenger side strut. Who knows...maybe it worked. Thanks again to all. If you ever meet me...first one's on me. GD- I would love to get a copy of that. I'll throw a couple bucks atcha just for listening to me whine.
  22. Thanks to everyone for the posts and ideas. I will be giving it a once over today. Had to take the day off. Thanks again to everyone. BTW, it's just the rears. both flat. -Michael
  23. Thanks for all the reply's. I think I'm just pissed more than anything. Nothing personal just another straw. Will be doing some quick learning on XT6's. BTW searches DO work. Just a lot at once(that's a good thing). You guys are the Shl7.
