  1. Took it in this morning, the service manager said the mp3 version radio from the 06 outback will not fit the 05. So looks like I am stuck with it. Also if you live in SF be aware that Ron Price Subaru is a major hassel. They charged me for and oil change and tire rotation. $80! They did not even rotate the tires. I know cause being a former mechanic I know how people can cheat. I marked the tires too
  2. Thanks for that Ron- I have autoclimate control. Its a nasty little trap I am in. I am now wedded to my subaru dealer.
  3. Yeah, I know Big but here- As of yet there is no face plate for the integrated climate and audio system. The one they do make is for the regular outback not the limited. If you do know of something for the limited I would appreciate knowing more. Thank goodness for the extended warantee. Already its saved me money on wheel bearings. Do you have an xt?>
  4. Hi all, I make a habit of posting any issues with my 05 outback here. Its going into the Subaru dealer today for a new radio. The CD player stopped reading disks. Why Sube went with this integrated dash beats the heck out of me. The stock deck is nothing great. You cannot change it if you wanted too. The deck lasted about 2 years, or 45k miles. I plan on asking for an upgraded model with an MP3.
  5. Could be a cool deal man. Subaru is offering 0.0% financing. The 06 has the Dvd navi. 05 does not. I was thinking about it. Whatever happened to the retail value of subaru?
  6. I looked up the prices for the wheel bearings and axlenut (didnt know you had to change that everytime). The warrantee saved me big on parts and labor. I read in the long term test results that the Legacy GT they tested had the SAME issue, and more. Power windows and one of the drivers pumped in DIESEL. Well, I have owned a few Subes and none of the ever liked diesel. 1) Part Number: 902170044 Axle nut Back 2003 - 2004 $3.28 2) Part Number: 28473ag00a HUB and BEARING ASSY, Legacy 2005 $123.77
  7. Turns out the "road noise" was the rear wheel bearings. Covered under the extended warrantee. Check here for part#s.
  8. Howdy all, Been a while since I checked in. Nice to see everyone is still around! Any Idea why my 05 outback wagon is making a whoop-whooping sound on the freeway. Got about 36k on it. Replaced the tires had a wheel alignment and the problem persists. Around 40mph it starts. Quite noticable. Definitely related to something in the driveline. Cannot feel a thing through the steering wheel so I suspect it is a ball-joint or a wheel bearing. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Any input is appreciated. This car has been rock solid so far. Thanks,
  9. http://www.acura.com/index.aspx?initPath=Home Check this out. Its called the RDX? The engine HP and Tq # match subaru outback to a tee. They even claim to have developed a revolutionary feature that matched engine exhaust gas flow to turbo speed. I think its been called a wastegate. Why would someone pay that kind of bread for a awd overweight acura, when they can have the real deal, not some pretender. I have had contests of speed with a few MDXs (put them in the rear view real quick). Maybe they are trying to save some face. Bill
  10. I fully agree that a larger turbo will reduce drivability. How do I increase boost without all the cost? Which shop do you recommend?
  11. Hi Nipper, The car is an 2005 outback XT Limited, 2.5liter motor and 5m. Thanks, Bill
  12. Hi out there in Subeland, I hear the GReddy makes a larger Mitsu-turbo that has the potentail to increase engine output to 290hp and about 290 ft/lbs torque. The kits are about $4000. They say the car remains as streetable as ever. I seriously would crave more HP. The car is fast as is but needs more grunt to haul my windsurfing gear.
  13. Hi all, My 91 Justy 4wd with 30,000 miles has a transmission problem. It starts and runs. However once the motor warms the transmission drops out of all gears. The car will not go. How much is a new transmisson? Thanks all
  14. Hey Brus, You can Fax the Schmatic to me at 650-225-6950 or email me the scanned image at whilow@gene.com Thanks man,
  15. My new outback has the factory sub installed. Is there any way to turn down the bass? I tried the bass level, maybe it just needs to be broken in. Thanks, Any recommendations for replacement woofers? Bill
  16. Thanks man, Yeah, I tried popping out the bottom. Thats as Far as I got. If you lay on your back and look up you can see it attaches somewhere around the arm rest area. After that I will be damned if I can determine where else it anchors. I did notice the speaker is made of paper. That only makes me want to change it more. As the car only has 7000miles I am reluctant to use a heavy hand.
  17. Hi All, Thanks for all the great info over the years. I am trying to install new speakers in my doors. How in the heck are you suppose to remove the panel without tearing it apart. 1) The panel uses traditional pop fasteners on the bottom, but it is too narrow to get up under with yer hands. So the bottom while easy to pull away leaves you the top and middle which do not have a conventional lift off point. 2) The arm rest does not appear to serve as an anchoring point with screws attaching the rest and panel together. Any help would be appreciated. Also how in the hell do we install a new radio when the time comes? The facsia is all one continous peice? How are you suppose to up grade that? Thanks,
  18. Thank you for the info. I know the headlights switch off automatically. The running lights are a load on the alternator. I would love to turn them off. Bill
  19. Ever drove around like an idiot with your headlights off? They appear to be on but the tail lights were out? How do I deactivate the lousy day running lights? According the the owners manual they are on the "Reduced Setting". Whats the relationship with the Day running lights on dash indictor? By default are they not always on? So why the indicator when it is night time and the headlights are on? More weirdness? Like the door key switch on my loyale? Driveside left turn unlocks, but on the passenenger side right turn unlocks. And you still need to use a key to unlock the driverside if you are getting the door for your mom ( she cannot reach over to unlock). $ Bill
  20. I own a 05 Outback and a 91 Loyale. Having the exact same size tires is vital for all wheel drive. IF you have mismatched tires and or wheels you will hear a huge whine coming from the Transaxel. Not Normal. I tried it on my 91 loyale. If you must mix and match make sure that at a minimum you change the tires in sets. Keeping like tires paired to the front or rear.
  21. Greetings, Is anyone besides myself having difficulty with the B9 grille? After getting over the shock of the inital viewing. I spent countless hours going over the website. I have en-visioned it from all angles. I have approached it from every angle. Still it does nothing for me. I think Subaru did an outstanding job differentiating the B9 with the awesome body. One look at the rest of the B9 and you know it is not a Toyota! Why stop at the grille? The grille needs a smoothed over aproach to match the rest of the body. Somthing approaching the astetics of the Porsche SUV. I am proud to own and drive a Subaru. However I have had it with some of the weirdness.
  22. Thanks Trogdor, I will experiment with the govenor. Bill
  23. Hey all, My 91 Loyale' transmission is slipping big time. In checking the level it was about 1qt low. I added stop leak and slip eliminator to no avail. It still spews tranny fluid and is slipping even worse than ever. I can understand the trans slipping as the car has almost 200k. But whats up with the smoke? The fluid is accumulating on the passenger side cross member and dripping onto the exhaust manifold creating special effect caliber plumes. Can I tighten the belts myself? Thanks, Bill 05 Outback XT 91 Loyale
  24. Yeah Subes have come a long way. I was at the dealers shoping for one. Even with all the new refinements they are still a really simple car. What I mean is that they still don't have satellite navigation, auto-dim anything all in one remotes, keyless remote, and tons of other gee whiz little features. They are however seriously relaible. From an engineering stand point however, the all wheel drive and the mechanicals are durable, in a word excellent. What toyota was before they came out with their hidious new interiors.
