  1. Cool, I would like to see the car. If you are interested in posting pictures on this site pics must be less than or equal to 320x200. If you are planning to post pictures. I recommend using: irfanview (This is image conversion software). Go to www.tucows.com search for irfanview. If you are using dialup, no problem. File size is < 1m and downloads in 5 mins. after you install irfanview: 1) open the desired image (WARNING: make a back up of your original as irfanware will permanently alter your image) 2) open "image" from the pull down menu. 3) select "resize or resample" and experiment with the different sizes avail. to achieve the size that is acceptable. rename and save as. Have fun. Bill
  2. Snowman, You are a stud. Changed the starter the other day. Accidentally knocked one of the lines from the pvc line loose. Reconnected it the other day and that was the problem. Oil consumption back to normal. Think I caused any ring or valve damage running low oil level? Just to make sure everything is on the p and up, I am going to clean the pvc out with some gunk.
  3. Howdy all, Got a 91 loyale, 146k that is acting up. I was driving over the altamont pass here in Northern CA. I was on the boost and noticed a huge (I mean HUGE) cloud of smoke in the rearview. I was driving around 75mph passing a big rig going straight up hill too. I arrived in Stockton to the sound of lifters ticking away (loud). Pulled it over immediately, checked the oil and it was over 2qts low!!!!!! back window covered in an oily film. well, 10 qts later I made it back to Berkeley added a can of engine restorer and now she is running up to par again. Drinking oil .5 qts per fill up What gives? Thanks, Solosidesupersmall.bmp
  4. I hear you. I am a car nut. I cannot help but think of the future. It is only prudent.
  5. Howdy all, Finally got some pictures shrunk and I am able to proudly display my newest subie. Thanks for all the help with keeping the loyale up and running through the year! The new one should be good for a while. Not trying to show off, just proud to have a new Subie that I drip over every night in my sleep. Yeah, I bought the Loyale r Bill
  6. Howdy All, Got a question. I have a 05 Outback XT. Unlike my 91 Loyale where the plugs stand staight up. There is no room to access them XT plugs. Maybe from under the firewall behind the tires? Does not look rosy. of the 2 photos one is a close up of the drives side plugs (weird eh) and the other a distance shot so you get an idea (weird eh?). Any Idea? Thanks a bunch in advance. Bill
  7. Morning all, I just bought a new XT Outback. My question is "why not put grating over the intercooler". If you have seen the new motors the intercooler just sits there. Exposed to bugs and other damage. The new car ripps. I love it. Thanks, Bill
  8. Oh yeah, We used to have a cabin at Fly In Acres before they put in the lake. Bill
  9. Yeah, Sorry. My picture was too large to load. I will try again when I bring a CDrom to work. Yes you can still ski the mountain for free. Yes "home run" still exsists. I was raised in Stockton, CA. I graduated in 1983. I remember Deputy Dawg well. "Bear" is still alive and well. The place has not changed. The cafeteria is now Roberts Pizza. Other than that it is like a flashback to the 1970's. Totally unchanged. There is a music festival up there every year you should check it out. Its one of the few places in California that, in my opinion that has escaped the influx of big money etc...... Bill
  10. Thanks for all the input guys. Its funny how subes use the Mitsu turbos. Quality for sure. Here is a pic of me and the new XT at Mt Reba in the central sierra's. At altitude there is little decrease in performance. I will post some with my girlfriend posing with the loyale today. Would do it now but dial up takes forever. AT work I have 10-baset ethernet.
  11. Definitely, I was very disappointed that there was not a Blk on Blk option when buying the 3.0R, I was basically corned into the XT Limited for that reason. These cars are all Sube though. Nothing flashy, no dvd navigation or other g-whiz gimicks. It would only be more stuff to go wrong. Lets be real. Subes are seriously reliable and built to stay that way. I am totally happy with my new XT. The more I look at it the more I see what it really is- here today, here tomorrow. - The 17" tires rub the wheelwells going over bumps while cornering. - How do you change the Spark Plugs? Are you joking me? - I bet the clutch will be a real pain in the rump roast to change, it is entombed. - Only runs on 91 octane. Noticably sluggish, rough with the 87. - 5 star crash rating.
  12. Did you decide? I had the same issue with deciding. Lucky for me there are so many dealers in town that It boiled down to the color of leather I wanted. Keep this in mind. the 3.0r only comes with the ugly rump roast taupe interior. To get black on black you need to get the 2.5 xt limited which is what I did.
  13. Thanks for the great posting. I can tell you are a Subaru lover. I loved the new XTs too. So much so that I bought one. Bill
  14. Ya'll are lucky, there are 5 Subaru dealers within 30 miles of my home in Berkeley. None of them will deal. In this part of the country we Love our Subes. The dealers know it too. When I pulled up in my 91 Loyale then new they had me from the minute I walked in. I drove out in a new Black on black paying only 2200 under sticker. My new Outback rules though. I will post pictures soon.
  15. Yep, I saw a 2.5liter Outback, sans turbo. Looks like an outback with 15" wheels. Nice looking ride. Bill
  16. Thanks, I know subaru used to make GLs with a turbo. I was only interested in determining subaru turbo history. The Dealship said they last the life of the car, whatever that means. I bought the gold warrantee, the diffence of which would have been the difference between the 3.0R and the XT limited. The aftermarket is a good idea though. Too bad the 6 does not come with a black leather interior. Bill
  17. Bought a XT limited. 2.5 lt Turbo. I also own a 91 Sub-loyale. Still runs strong too. Wanted the 3.0R but hate the taupe seats that come with it, no other color avail with the 3.0R trust me. The Turbo Motor is really strong and pulls like car-azy, some idiot in a Mercedes SUV tried, repeat tried, to keep up on I-5. Around 90mph I upshifted to 5th and left him fading into the rearview real quick. Pulls like a truck from about 3000 rpm to redline. I don't drive like this everyday but on occasion I cut loose. What is the life expectancy of the turbo?
  18. I just bought a new Outback Limited. I wanted the r3.0. but it only comes with taupe leather interior. What is up with that. I hate that color! I wanted Black on Black and got it but had to settle for the manual and the 4 banger with turbo. If you get the XT limited, you will not be disappointed. Even though it is heavily optioned it is not overly optioned. A comparable Explorer has a better stereo and more features like, compass, auto radio volume that has written messages capability. But it is a Ford, and drives like one. My XT is like my 91 Loyale. Overkill it is not. Even with the 17" wheels and 55 series tires, Obsidian Paint and black leather interior, the xt still looks practical. It is a seriously reliable car and you know what, it will remain that way.
  19. Thanks for the input on fixing my clock. I am currently at work and searching our parts dept for a 75 ohm 2w resistor. It even gives the resistor size on the board! My board looks pretty bad right now, it looks like it gave a heck of a fight before it gave up. I will let you all know how it goes. As for the connectors, don't be too anal, cut the frigg'in wires and butt end connect them. Bill
  20. Its the tires! It took a year but I finally found the problem. My 91 Loyale likes having the same size tires! No kidding! I had her in the shop and was convinced it was a bad CV joint in the front or the transmission was plain shot. It was neither. It was having mismatched tires the whole time. I installed a set of Cooper Sportgtx OEM size and now she purrs like a kitten. That and I took a impact wrench to the spindle nuts. The front one was loose and that cleared up a good deal of the noise but the tire change made a complete difference! The noise is totally cleared up and she runs like new again. Handling is tighter but mostly the noise is gone.
  21. Hey dudes! Got a noisy little 91 Loyale. Runs strong, 120k great mileage etc.... auto tranny makes a real high pitched whining sound. Pretty sure that its not the tranny but the transfer case. Oil is fresh in the transfer case and rear dif. Bad transfer case right? Well then why does the noise go away when I engage 4wd? I mean it goes away completely, like no noise at all. Is there a zirk fitting I need to hit with some grease? Thanks, Bill Hilow Member since 1991! williamhilow@yahoo.com
