  1. Heres The codes! 12 - starter switch 22 - knock sensor 35 - canister purge soliniod valve I have a spare car to rob parts off of (well, until the insurance company hauls it off - I totaled it last monday!) so I changed the starter hoping to get rid of code #12 - starter switch - but it didnt!... What about the rest of the codes? I just bought the car and it had a head gasket blow and a shop replaced both of the head gaskets and the timming belt abouit 3000 miles ago (before I bought it)---- If I swap out the knock sensor will it eliminate code #22? What about the canister purge solenoid valve- code# 35? Where are these items located and is it a simple replacement of parts issue? What do you all think? I hope so, since I have the parts and all!
  2. If there were past problems that were fixed and the ecu was not reset will the trouble codes still be present?
  3. So I just bought a 90 subaru legacy LS and the "check engine" light is on. The guy I bought it from told me what the problem was so replaced the faulty part and the light is still on - even after disconnecting the battery for 30 min... So I was wondering how do you check the trouble codes on this car? Do I need a special code reader deal or is there a blinking light to count or what?
  4. How do you reset the check engine light in a 1990 legacy?
  5. So would you guys consider a 92 subaru legacy a "new generation of subarus"??? By the way, how easy are the valve cover gaskets to change on a '92? One more question-- my automatic seatbelt on the drivers side stopped working suddenly, any advice on this? Are they fairly easy to mess with?
  6. Well, I ended up buying a '92 subaru legacy with 166,000 miles... Runs and drives great! Well I guess this would mean that I cant post in this forum any more, I think a '92 questions would be better suited in the "newer generation" section! By the way, are subaru valve cover gaskets a pain to change or what? Valve cover gasket leaks seem to be a chronic problem with subarus...
  7. The car turned out to be a turd... bummer... and the seller seemed to be a bit untruthful as well. Bad combo if you ask me!
  8. Well, I am going to look at a 1990 legacy wagon -- 5 speed, AC, 2nd owner, 146,000 miles --- for $1500 --- we'll see how it goes, you know the joys of used car shoppping!
  9. What is differance in the loyale from a DL or a GL?
  10. By the way, what is the differance between DL and GL?
  11. Thank you for all the help! I think I will try to find a 88-89 GL Wagon with a 5-speed... or if I come across a really nice 84 or earlier. If any one else has any extra advice on what to look for in a good subaru I would definately appreciare it!
  12. I have been looking to buy a subaru wagon and was wondering if I could get some advice from some of you subaru pros about what years were the "better" years to buy and if there were any years or engines/trannys to avoid buying. I was looking to buy a mid 80's to early 90's wagon and I do alot of commuting to work during the week--- and alot of driving in the woods on gravel roads and snowy mountain roads on the weekends! Let me know what you think would be the best fit for me!
