  1. So, what do you use your subaru for that most other car owners wouldn't do? This is just one time, i dont have a truck anymore and had to deliver a bale of hay.... Post up your pics, lets see what else subie owners have come up with!
  2. ok, so, just got back from kragens and i picked up a 90' Loyale ecu water temp sensor for $17. Got the loyale sensor because thats the year and model i got the SPFI stuff off of to do the conversion. So now that ive got the sensor i had to come up with some way to integrate it into the car. Since the Loyale sensor was located in the radiator and on my car the temp sensor for the guage is there and i dont want to move it. So here is what i have come up with, i took a galvanized 3/8 T and threaded 2 ends into it, got a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter and threaded the sensor into the adapter and into the T. I was planning on putting it inline with the heater core since the sensor just needs to touch water, right? Another question i have is which pin goes to the ecu and which goes to ground?
  3. Ok, so if that one wont work than what year/model will work that isnt gonna cost me a hell of alot of cash. Do i just ask for a EA82 turbo model? Can i ask for the GL-10 turbo sensor? This stupid sensor is the only thing keeping me from the car running perfect and getting my smog done.
  4. So i just got back from the junk yard. I got the water temp sensor off a 4 door legacy. Just want to get your opinion on it to see if the one i got would work. Here is the pic.....
  5. I did that, autozone can get them but there supplier is out and the manufacturer is out until more are made.
  6. So, a little while ago i talked to GCK directly and they could not sell to me because im not with a business but he told me about there distributor, APW, that would sell to me directly. So i thought COOL. After about ten minutes of talking to this guy he told me to go on amazon.com and search the part number of the GCK axles and there on the site for $49.99 . INSANE DEAL!!! He said that its something that shouldnt be like that but it is, and there getting ready to remove the parts listing from amazon within the next week. I already ordered them, 150 bucks for the 2 front GCK axles and 2 day shipping. Im not complaining, thats a hell of a deal. Figured i'd post about it and maybe someone else can jump on this too before its gone.
  7. OK, so its now been 3 days since i removed for the 2nd time "Kragen Special" crappy axles. I looked around, read some other threads and have come to the conclusion that im just going to keep having axles issues until i buy quality axles. So i figured GCK was the way to go because of all the good things ive heard about them. Ok, Cool. So for the past 2 days ive been searching for these axles and not one parts store around can get me the brand i want. Only all off brand sh*t. Called GCK, no answer. The autoparts stores that can order them keep telling me that there vendors are out. Is there a web site that i can order them directly from? Does anybody have any info on GCK as to why i cant get my hands on them?
  8. So i know im like 5 years late for this post but ive been searching for GCK axles for the past few days and i cant seem to get ahold of them. Kragens, Autozone, Napa, all say they cant get ahold of them and that there distributors cant get ahold of them. I ordered some new duralast axles from autozone just to get me by but i would rather go GCK. If you have any input on this that would be appriciated. Thanks.
  9. So now that the SPFI conversion is done ive been getting ready to take it back to the smog ref. But ive noticed something getting progressively worse. Its been having starting issues sometimes, at idle its kind of rough and after a few minutes of running at idle it will just all of a sudden die. When i come to a stop while driving and try to get going again it feels like its running rich and i have to clear it out before i can take off smoothly. But it only occurs sometimes. I ran D-check and it did not through any codes. Kinda confused on this one. Any Suggestions?
  10. Just to let you know, the EA82 distributor is electronic and also incorporates a crank angle sensor. If you try to use the EA81 distributor with a EA82 motor im not to sure if it would even start. Your probably going to have to go junkyard hopping to find one, thats what i had to do for my SPFI swap onto an EA81.
  11. OK, well thats what i thought the whole time and thats what i did before but it still threw the speed sensor code after i cleared memory and drove. I'm going to try it again, see what happens. If not, what do you think about swaping the 90 Loyale speedo into the GL cluster? I understand that most older subaru speedo pods are interchangable.
  12. OK, so the wire that needs to go to the ecu is the black?? And the yellow/red wire is power to the speedo or coming from the speedo? Well, it makes sense but why would the conversion manuals both say the yellow/red needs to go to ecu?
  13. Yes, i pretty much knew that. My problem is hooking to the right wire (yellow/red??) to the ecu. Since the manuals i have only mention 1 or 2 wires coming from the top out of the back of the cluster, and my cluster has 4 wires. Like in the pic that 86BRATMAN provided. Hopefully the yellow/red wire is the right one, i've just been to busy lately and haven't gotten around to tearing apart the dash again to test the wires and check the speedo cable. There is also only one wire that hooks to the ecu, not 2. And am i supposed to be testing for resistance or voltage?? But as soon as i get time im going to figure this out and ill post an update.
  14. Yes, the cable is fine and the speedo does register. The pic that 86BRATMAN put online is the same as the one i have. I already tried hooking the speed sensor signal wire from the ECU to it and also grounded the black. Then reset the codes and went for a drive. And when the CEL came on and i checked codes it was still throwing speed sensor. So am i hooking to the right wire? Is the yellow with red stripe the speed sensor signal wire?
  15. ok, so we have finally finished the swap. We took a CCR EA81 and SPFI off of a 90 Loyale, the car runs pretty good. Now its time for smog and i'm having an issue with hooking up the speed sensor signal wire to the ECU. The manuals i have talk about either a 1 wire or 2 wires coming off the back of the speedo. Well in my car there is 4 wires coming off the top of the speedo. i tried hooking up the yellow/red wire to the signal to the ecu but i still had the check engine light and throughing the speed sensor code. The black ground wire is hooked to a good ground, so for now im stuck trying to figure this out. Any thoughts??
  16. So, Its all done! Finally, tomorrow i get to take it down to ge smogged. I dont think im going to have a problem. We'll see what happens.......
  17. So, it took awhile but its just about done. We finally got to run it. Everything went awesome! It fired right up on the FIRST try with no hesitation. Now all thats left is the new clutch cable and i couple small vacuum lines and its good to go. This is what it looks like as of right now: Looks like it was supposed to be there.
  18. So looks like we have the Nippon-Denso distributor and according to the info we have we need the gear off a 4wd EA81. Now can we source the gear only or have to find a whole dis. for jus tthe gear? What do we need to do. Thanks for any help.
  19. Actually, for this being my first swap its going really smooth. Its definately a good idea to get everything off the same car. I got a really good idea of how everything is supposed to go back together because im the one that took it off. And so far, so good.
  20. Sure, i got a pretty good deal of $200 for everything: SPFI intake, throttle body, air cleaner assembly with MAF sensor, complete wiring harness from engine to dash, ECU, Distributor, Coil and mount, and Fuel pump, from the Junk yard. I also need to buy new fuel lines still and change the gear off of the old distributor to the new one and cut off one side of the distributor mount. But so far so good. Ill post a pic of the whole setup that i got from the yard.
  21. Not at all. Im just trying to get all the input i can before i really get into the project. Thanks for trying to help out. If you have anymore tips in the future, let me know. Ill try and update the forum when i can.
  22. Dude, didnt mean that. Its been a long day. It should be SPFI.
  23. Positive, EA81 stamped right on the block.
