  1. Awesome! So back to ride height adjustment, i tried loosening the bolt under my back seat for the rear and it started to back out. Is there a certain procedure for adjusting it? And does the front adjust with the 2 nuts under the spring buckets? I want to lower the height a little bit.
  2. If i gutted my cat or had a new exhaust built with 1.75'' inch tubing and eliminated the cat with an O2 bung welded on would i have a problem wit the O2 sensor? Would i have to change to a heated O2 sensor?
  3. So is the Subaru sales brochure wrong?
  4. Im just trying to figure out if the ride height could possibly be causing my axle boots to be tearing. Maybe added stress from the increased angle and the bigger tires i put on it. I saw a pic of the same car stock and it looked a whole lot lower then mine does.
  5. I was reading the sales brochure on my 87 hatch and it mentions front and rear suspension ride height adjustments. I wanted to know how exactly you can adjust the ride height. And whats the amount it can be adjusted, 1''?, 2''? or whatever.
  6. OK, so here is the deal, i got an 87 EA81 4 speed D/R 4x4 Hatch. Just wanted to know if anybody has had issues with axle boots tearing. I have now gone through 3 sets of axles, the most recent were MWE's. Im thinking it could be the bigger tires i have on the car, 185x80r13. I dont think its a clogged cat so does anybody else have any suggestions??
  7. Actually, this guy was running straight vegetable oil that you can buy at any local grocery store by the gallon. It is more expensive that way but there are no CO2 output, clean as hell. But getting used cooking oil from resturants works by just filtering it. Bio-diesel is great because you remove Glycerol that make vegetable oil become solid when its cold. But this issue can be overcome by using tank heaters in colder areas. You can also have 2 tanks, one with regular diesel and one with oil. start the vehicle with diesel and when it becomes warm, you switch over to the oil. Then when you turn it off to sit over night or whatever if it might become cold again, you switch back to diesel to purge the lines of oil. This is a site that deals with the conversion: http://www.plantdrive.com/
  8. Ethanol can also be produced from Hemp, alot more efficiently also. Governor Schwarzenegger in California just vetoed a bill that had already passed to allow farmers in Cali to legally grow hemp. And hemp is NOT marijuana. One of the current solutions that i have read about is using vegetable oil in diesel engines. There is a guy that runs vege oil in his Ford that more than tripled his millage by switching. Same power number. Only downside is that the oil needs to be heated in colder climates.
  9. Your right, reading what you told me made me remember that the guy that built my engine at CCR said something about SPI pistons. At the time i wasnt to concerned because i really needed the motor to get my car back on the road, but now im curious. He must have ment SPFI pistons. Gonna give them a call tomorrow and find out for sure. So with SPFI pistons and decked heads (ill find out how much they took off tomorrow) just assuming .020'', what do you think the compression ratio is about?
  10. Dude, don't be a hypocrite! There is alot of mention of EA81, EA81T, and EA82T in this thread, i was simply asking a question to members that obviously know alot about this subject. I wasnt trying to change the topic to ceramic coatings like you.
  11. With decked heads and 1600 pistons what is the compression ratio? I had this done when i ordered my engine from CCR and never asked what the final ratio was.
  12. So can a turbo be put on an EA81 SPFI? Like a blow-through spfi turbo setup. And if so, how much boost can it handle?? Has anyone done this?
  13. So what did you do to mount the cone filter? Mine saggs and flexes the whole intake tube down til the filter touches the wheel well.
  14. So, i ordered the MAF adapter from ebay for the nissan and it was finally delivered today. I went down and bought a cone air filter from the auto parts store and put it all together. And Holy Crap, wouldn't you know it, it actually made a noticeable difference over the stock airbox. Some people said its not going to make a bit of difference, but a snappier throttle and a definate increase in low end torque makes me a believer. Cant wait to swap out the muffler next week.
  15. So anybody have any new pics of their Subaru doing something only a subie owner could appreciate?
  16. OK, so now that the Hatch has finally passed smog, all the things i've been wanting to do are gonna hopefully happen. Time for the fab up reciever. Gonna hit the junkyard for a class 1 receiver tomorrow morning, and if i can find one cheap enough thats gonna be awesome. But if not, Does anyone have one they want to get rid of or know where i can buy one?? Maybe a few pics that i can get an idea of where to fab the mounts!
  17. 200SX, thats all i needed to know. Thanks! And the airbox fit no problem in my Hatch, i just want a little more now that i finally passed smog. Also looking into getting muffler.
  18. 3" x 1 1/2" or so, i got the SPFI from a EA82 Loyale. But i dont want to cut a hole in the airbox because i do have to smog the car in california. If i could find a replacement lower portion of the airbox that would be cool, but since the MAF adapter and cone element cost only about 25 bucks i figured if would be easier and would allow more air then just cutting a hole. And i could just swap out the airbox when smog comes around every 2 years.
  19. Cool, ill check it out. Is there a specific size or part #?
  20. OK, so where can i find these "turbo" mufflers. I dont want loud. Maybe a little tone but thats about it.
  21. I understand that the airflow through the stock filter is more than enough for the motor. But its not the filter itself that im concerned with, its the air intake opening in the side of the airbox. The whole is maybe 3" long and 1 1/2" wide. Pretty small in my opinion. I figured opening up the exhaust and intake would help improve performance. And making the whole bigger is not an option since i do have to smog this car and i am in california. And i cant seem to find the same airbox in the junkyard.
  22. Well i read somewhere that the EA81 muffler is very restrictive, and that the turbo models muffler was alot less restrictive. And opening up the exhaust would give a bit more low end torque. And i would go aftermarket but i dont want the loud, ricer sound of most mufflers.
  23. So now that i've got the smog finally done and the Hatch is running great, i would like to add a little more, get up and go! You know, power. For being a EA81 with Spfi its pretty fun already, but a little bit more would be bad rump roast. So i was thinking of adding a cone air filter with a maf adapter but im having trouble figuring out exactly which one is the right one. Any Input or sites i can check out. Was also thinking about picking up a GL-10 muffler to get rid of some of the restriction.
  24. So here's the deal, i couldn't find the smog paper work from 4 months ago when i took the car in and it failed. I forgot all the totals of HC and CO so i figured i better take it in again since i have a whole new ignition on the car now.(Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires, Coil) So i figured since the second smog was free, why not just get it done again. And holy sh*t, it PASSED. Less then half the limit of emissions. So now the new crate EA81 CCR high compression motor, SPFI conversion, and GM alternator swap are California Legal!!!!!! Really glad i never sold this car. Its fun as hell to drive.
  25. So last time i got my 87 Hatch smogged the HydroCarbons at idle were way too high. Like 20x to high. So now im ready to get the car smogged again and i need to fix this problem before i take it in. Ive heard i should adjust the engine idle air mixture and when i looked it up in the FSM all it says is that this adjustment is not recomended. Thats IT. So any suggestions??
