  1. Just so you know, my rear 'shocks' on my 90 Loyale have no coil over them. Shall I post a picture??? I think we're splitting hairs here. I get the idea.
  2. On my 90 Loyale, the fronts are struts and the rears are shocks.
  3. I'm thinking of replacing the shocks on my 90 Loyale, 1.8 non-turbo, sedan. Any recommendations? type/brand/etc
  4. I've been in Coloardo now for 17 years and just now heard about MWE axles. Since this will be my THIRD set of axles, I'm gonna drive over there and pick me up a pair of thier axles. Wish me luck.
  5. I've been in Colorado for 17 years now, and I'm just now finding out about CCR. This forum rules. I'm going to get two of their axles. I've tried NAPA and AZ already and now the axles are clicking away again. Third time is a charm I hope.
  6. Whew, glad I ran across this thread! I'm about to embark on the interior 'freshen up' project on my 90 Loyale. Anybody have extra arm rests? The PO put in 'custom wood rests with cup holders' and their STUPID. I have to agree with psylosyfer. Any produts used/mentioned on TV shows are only used for a reason: sponsorship. Sure, some are actually good but be careful.
  7. I have hardly ever seen ANY oil pressure on the "idiot oil pressure" gauge on my 90 Loyale. A new sender is ridiculously priced and just ain't worth it. $15 at Autozone gets you a gauge with the mechanical sending unit/hose. Mechanical sender with an after-market gauge is the way to go. I put one on my 89 F250 and have been very pleased with seeing the 'acual pressure'. Some day I'll get bored and put one on the Loyale too. As for your valves, a half quart of ATF in the oil will help get them filled/pumped up. Just be sure to do some high engine revs for at least a few minutes. (I just re-installed my EA82 and posted a topic about bad lifters. The .5 quart of ATF they suggested did the trick!) Be sure to change the oil after 100 miles or so. SeaFoam is good for 'unsticking' lifters too.
  8. Can I build a Soobie from a 'kit'? (i.e. a source to build one from ground-up) I see people build trucks from 'kits' (also looking for a source for that, but anyway..)
  9. Yeah, I'll still take it. Thanks again! PS: my loyale is purring like a kitten now after the engine removal/install and after I resolved the lifter issues. The right ones filled up this morning on the way to work. The engine has never sounded this good!
  10. LOL, oops, the above reply is from "me", yzerman19. There was an issue with posting with that older account but I guess the moderator cleared it up and I logged in with that one by accident.
  11. Well I got the new lifters in and of course I had to re-time it due to the cam/belt removal. This time I put a white-out "T" on the 20 BTDC mark on the flywheel so I wouldn't make the same mistake twice. Thanks again, she is purring like a kitten now (well, the right side is knocking but I'll give the seafoam a chance to work its magic).
  12. Trust me, I was pacing in the garage saying "Should I?....Nah....but...should I really?...." I'm going to try and work magic with ATF and/or seafoam on the right side. To be honest, this road warrior has been knocking almost since I've owned it (my first Soobie) and just thought that's how they sounded. HA HA. I'm pretty anal about car maintenance so I've always treated it well. How much AFT do you suggest I add to the oil?? Thanks four your help Gloyale, your input helped a lot! It's people like you that make this forum the best on the www. Eric
  13. I just did my timing belts this past weekend for the first time so give me a message if you need help. Their right, they can get prettty damn confusing.
  14. Ahhhhhh, the sound (or lack thereof) from the 1-3 side is beautiful. Four new lifters in place. But gosh, now the right side is obviously knocking pretty good. HA HA It never ends does it? I'm not saddened by the results at all Gloyale. Recall that this Loyale has 270,000 miles on it. Is it so hard to believe the lifters went bad? After removing/installing the engine, and now this job, the right side is going to have to wait. Maybe the seafoam I put in the oil will work its magic all of a sudden.
  15. Since it clicked/knocked before the engine job, and now it's worse, and I gotta fix the cam leak, I'll just find the 'broken' lifter and change it out.
  16. Turns out I have to crack that side open again anyway. Looks like my left cam is still leaking into/under the belt covers. I put a new 'main' seal on it but forgot to swap out the smaller o-ring. Also, maybe I just didn't seat the main one all the way. We'll see. Thanks for all your replies folks, I'll get her straight eventually.
  17. Well I timed her out at 20 BTDC, worked like a charmer, thanks. Just to be sure, I timed her with the green plugs connected, then once I timed it I unplugged them. That right? After this test drive though (in hopes of getting a lifter to fill-up) I noticed the left cam must be leaking into/under the belt cover. I gotta check the lifters anyway do I'll dig into her (again) once she cools off. I think I forgot to change-out the smaller of the two o-rings on that cam. DOH. Nobody's perfect. Extra parts/gaskets is a difficult pill to swallow!
  18. I'm nursing a 90 Loyale right now out East of you (11 miles south of Bennett CO). I just finished a full gasket set job (removed/installed the engine). Having issues with my 1-3 lifters right now, and I think I forgot to install the smaller o-ring on the cam (it's still leaking under/into the belt cover). I gotta check the lifters anyway, so once it cools down from my test drive I'll dig into it (again). I've never done a custom job so I don't think I'd be much help at all. Downtown eh? That makes a major project like yours quite challenging.
  19. Before the gasket set job, I added a quart every week. An oil change every four weeks, HA HA. My coolant levels have always remained correct.
  20. I did the pump seals (included in a full gasket set). Also, as I said earlier, the lifters never left the head. I had the engine on a stand so I was able to turn the engine vertical each time I removed the heads. I'll give it a few trips to work and back (highway, 28 miles each way) and see what happens. I did add a little less than half of a bottle of seafoam to the oil. As for the valve job, the cylinders were black and had a lot of black flaking inside.
  21. You probably should change the crank, cam, and oil pump seals while you're in there if there's oil contaminating the belts.
  22. Is there a one-cat high-flow exhaust system available for my 90 Loyale. I'm out in the sticks East of Denver where emissions isn't required so I'm not concerned about a test. My exhaust is original and I'm sure the cats are clogged pretty good. I put a high flow Cat and a Cat-back exhaust on my F-250 and what a difference!
  23. I took it out for a long country drive today (55-60 mph) with hopes it would 'go away', no such luck. Since it was ticking before, yet not this bad, I just better do the right thing and replace them (or just the bad one).
  24. Yes, I meant a brand that AutoZone sells. I'm well aware of the DURALAST reputation. Although there is a time/place/part where going cheap isn't logical (axles being one of them), I've used misc Duralast parts many times with no issues. I'm just keeping a 90 Loyale with 270,000 miles alive and don't have the cash for the high-end stuff. I save that money for my F-250 monster truck.
  25. Well, after some further thought, I think I'm going in and replacing the lifters. I remember 'ticking' (but not as obvious) before I pulled the engine so waiting for it to 'go away' might not be the best choice. I learned a lesson: do a valve job while the engine is out! Loyale parts are always 'ordered' around here so I wasn't ready when I had the engine apart and this is my daily commuter so time is of the essence. Oh well, it doesn't look all that complicated after the experiance of pulling and re-installing the engine. Gloyale, you read my mind. I was planning on jacking that side up in hopes of creating a different gravity vector on the rockers, then lifting the engine a tad for more access. This should help things from falling all over the place. If they fall, I'm sure I'll still recover okay. Then I'll just have more room/better access to pick them off the floor! HA
