  1. Spotted an older Subaru wagon (84?) with Alaska plates here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at a local hospital . That's a long drive ... is that anyone known from here??? Biff
  2. Black '87 XT. No decals anywhere xcept for small white "subaru" on the rear, side windows, 100w Hella driving lights + 55w yellow Hella fog lamps ... "Night Rider". John Wilke Milwaukee (Also proud owner of "Rolf the Golf (VW)")
  3. Got the rims from ShawnW, cleaned them up, got the tires from Fleet Farm here in Wisconsin. Pics from December. THe tires worked really well as snow tires. A little squirmy in deep snow (too wide), but were awesome in slush, or plowed roads. Car is a '92 Legacy L, 2.2L 16v, AWD, 214k miles. Bought the car last April for $1000 at 207k miles. I had to replace the driver's door and fix some fist sized rust holes in the fenders that were covered with duct tape. She ain't beautiful, but she's a super reliable daily driver. The door was the wrong color, so I rattle canned the entire side ... still need to do the driver's fender. You can see the lighter, faded color. Fog lamps are Hella 550's. Interior includes a dash mounted CB and police scanner. You can just make out the fake cellular phone antennas on top, by the bike rack. Red car behind the wheels is my '87 VW Golf Gti 16v, which is my #2 project once I get the new transmission in the black '87 XT 4wd that you can see in the background. Worms eye view: John Wilke Milwaukee
  4. Gads ... I'd rather saw my arm off first! Stick with it brother. :-p John Wilke Milwaukee
  5. '92 Legacy L wagon , 2.2L 16v non-turbo engine, 213k miles. Still pulling like a champ and still starts right up at -10F. John Wilke Milwaukee
  6. Why not make your own? Need graphics ... make up a Subaru stencil or AWD stencil and paint it on ! jw milwaukee
  7. I guess I need to spend some quality time under the hood with her. No, running fine, but wanted to do some preventative maintenance before winter _really_ sets in. Thanks ! John Wilke Milwaukee
  8. I've checked 1st Subaru Parts, The Parts Bin, Auto Barn ... nobody has the dist. cap and rotor for the '92 Legacy L wagon (EJ22, 16v). Anybody have an online source for it ????? I mean, it's not like I'm trying to find parts for a Citroen ! :-\ John Wilke Milwaukee
  9. Also look for 'Wintermaster' tires by various manufactures (Vulcan and Cooper). Agressive tread pattern made from what looks like the same mold. Very good in snow and slop if you pick a narrow tire. The Hakkapellitta's are awesome as well. jw milwaukee
  10. No bananas today. I musta read the auction wrong ... it's just the tape deck, no radio. Now I gotta score a new radio to go with the new, in the factory box, cassette deck ! Sorrrrrrrrry ! John Wilke Milwaukee
  11. What ever you do ... do NOT put a lift kit in this car ! :-p That's a beauty. jw milwaukee
  12. Now this is what you guys need for your Brats. Appropriately scaled of course ! http://www.trustedshopper.com/TBtruck/detail.asp?product=1630 Heard about these on the CB tonight. Guess they use them up north. Driver said he has hit 8 moose so far with only minor damage. jw milwaukee
  13. If the new one works out, I'll GIVE you the old one for shipping cost. Works fine, small chip out of one edge. jw Milwaukee j999w@aol.com :santa:
  14. Just scored a brand spanking new, OEM, still sealed in factory box, AM/FM stereo for my '87 XT. Winning bid $14.95 !! That's worth a banana ! jw milwaukee
  15. Alright. That helps. Now, regarding the heads. WHat are the differences in the construction of the heads between generation 1, 2, and 3? The reason I ask, is that in the watercooled VW world the terms A1, A2, A3, etc are described in depth in various FAQ's, but I can't find FAQ's on Subaru regarding the terms that seem to be so commonly used. jw milwaukee
  16. Who can direct me to a link describing the differences between generation 1, 2, and 3 Subarus? Which cars a which, why, what, etc. I can't find the right keywords on my internet searches. jw milwaukee
  17. There is currently an EJ22 on ebay as well as several manual transmissions. jw milwaukee
  18. Man ... I get a dead link. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Cannot open database requested in login 'FinleyWeb'. Login fails. /INCLUDE/DATABASE.ASP, line 101 :temper: John Wilke Milwaukee
  19. I don't remember taking any covers off when I stripped the AC from my '87 XT Turbo. I left the bracket on and just removed the compressor. jw milwaukee
  20. I'm 6'5" and feel your pain, man. I drive an '87 XT and a '92 Legacy wagon and have the seats slid back, steering wheel tilted up, and the seats pretty much upright although some tilt back on the seat will gain you some headroom. I feel pretty comfy, my head does touch the headliner a little, but not badly. I always wanted to try some club type racing, but there is no way to drive with a helmet unless they allow me to have the helmet sticking out of the sunroof ! Perhaps if you take out the seat, make some custom brackets and bolt the seat right to the floor. Clean, quick, and permanent ! jw milwaukee
  21. I aways wanted to drive by all the 'parkway punks' with their 'Bitching Camaros' and lay down 4 dark patches of rubber in front of them ... light 'em up and crab down the road a bit. Screeeeeeeeeee !! banana: Anyway, had a particulary stressfull day at work and subsequently hammered the greenlight take off's in the rain with my '92 Legacy wagon, experiencing something new (never noticed it with my '87 XT). The 2.2L 16v 130hp engine has just enough power to spin all 4 tires in the rain, but not just a flat out spin of the tires, but more like a half turn spin, the grip, half turn spin, grip, etc. Gave an interesing 'jerky' accelleration to the car. Kinda cool actually. jw milwaukee
  22. How about some JB Weld? If the package says someone used it to fix a Catepillar tractor engine block, it should work on a Subaru head ... right? jw milwaukee :-\
