  1. hmmm I really need to start applying all this turbo theory ;-) one hint: Impreza/legacy axels and knuckles...know for sure if even you don't use the knickle and stick with the xt6 knuckle the outer cv joints are the same 27 spline units so Impreza axles are expected to slide into xt6 hubs..the diff in neutral axel length is like 6mm...
  2. Nice thoughts man ;-) but duty is a killer 150%..I kid you not..for a complete car.. now for a body and an engine in a crate that is totaly different.. lol 5% duty plus 15% VAT ;-) on 'parts' I'd honestly consider the 4wd stuff if you were willing and the price was right NC isn't that far from Barbados and I might have a connection in Miami that might make it cheaper...I dunno man lemme know
  3. my wagon is an '89 and it originally came with what is in it..an ea71 hitachi carb no feedback mechanical secondary only emissions stuff is cat and PCV system both are no longer in the car ;-)..5speed 2wd 'l-series' (read ea82) tranny and we are Right Hand Drive here.. almost ALL the ea82 powered 'L-series' cars here are autos 3 or 4 speed and 2wd few rare ea82 powered 4wd wagons also auto...a couple 5 spd dual rangers from the UK..ONE turbo ea82 that is crippled except no one will tell me where it is only that they 'heard about it'... so even if I had the cash for wrx cut I'd still need 4wd rear 'l-series' x-member..turbo axels 2 hook up 2 ej tranny..plus the normal conversion stuff.. Hell if I could get a 2wd ej tranny I'd even go that route..but it'd def need LSD in the front imagine 227BHP 2 the front wheels in a 2500 lb wagon? LOL I dunno this car might die a 1600 but damn I have memories in that car lol just ranting very cool what your doing with your rides and at least your on the east coast LOL
  4. damn that is sweet.. so you aligned by eye then? lol y'know any place that'll ship me a turbo ea82 w/ complete harness/ecu fo' cheap? man I'd love to go ft4wd as well.. the way things are going it might be easier to go ej205 or ej20g (as I've seen both designations used to describe an ej20 turbo) engine and tranny as at least I can get wrx front cuts w complete driveline here in Barbados... Are you gonna intercool any of your cars?
  5. WJM How negative did they make the RX? How much Castor did you use? The back alignment is a bitch to do..but more negative can be had there as well
  6. from what I have measured the holes are exactly 14mm, 9/16 is 14.2875mm now a 14mm twist dril won't give you exactly 14 mm but it'll be close..13 will be too small...You'd risk damaging the stud or the hud if you tried pressing the stud into a 13mm bore..
  7. skip I gotta say that setup looks very good, saw it a while back and showed my muffler guy and he spent ten minutes with a vague grin on his face..u know the one.."I want that on my car" and "this is freaking awesome" all rolled into one :-) subarubrat :slobber: :slobber: nuff said
  8. isn't the dual carb ea81 manifold single runner and the ea82 turbo (MPFI)dual runners? I know carb and SPFI manifolds are interchangable between ea81 and ea82.. my guess is you could put the dual carb manifold on a carb or SPFI ea82..
  9. the late 80's ea71s had bigger intake manifold, bigger valves, hydraulic lifters, ea82/81 style air intake setup and bigger hitachi carb w electric choke. Had ea81/82 style bell housing 9.0:1 compression and different cam shaft...could be more I'm still finding things out...
  10. ok guys my parts EA71 has a rusty clutch on it I've loosened all the pressure plate bolts but the damn thing won't come free of the clutch any ideas?
  11. the electric fan is temperature controlled when ac is off and always on when ac is on
  12. I thought dual fans (one mech one electric) only came on cars with AC? My car came with both fans and it is a 5 speed, but it has AC.. I've been running with only the electric fan for about a year now, lent my mechanical fan to a bud who had an electric fan failure and his car is an automatic with no AC so he only had the electric fan..
  13. ok lemme qualify my car as my sig says is a an ea71 powered ea82 wagon...it doesn't have the same intake as a 70s early 80s ea71s it has a bigger inside and outside diameter and the carb is an ea82 bolt pattern non feedback w electric choke, so in complexity it is about equiv to the weber or perhaps slightly more. Now given that our ea82 carbs are different compared to the USA as we NEVER got the feedback carb I'll need to personally verify the SRX dual carb manifold bolt pattern to see what is what...bleh.. As 2 the ea81 carb...I like my electric choke..does the ea81 have it? also I'd be getting the hitachis free and u can't get webers here unless you import it yourself..$$ I honestly don't mind fabricating adapter plates as I'll have 2 do the same with the carb linkages and fuel lines and water supply hose. The SRX manifold actually had the original carbs on it but they were in pretty bad shape... but damn this engine is being held back...I remember reading somewhere that the SRX had a 274 duration cam w higher lift as well...I could with time probably drop an ea82 engine in the car but I'd need an ea82 flywheel as my ea71 wheel won't bolt up 2 the ea82 crank and I've NEVER even seen a manual ea82 car here..as I'm def not going slush box route my only option untill I get that ea82 flywheel or redrill and balance my ea71 wheel is to get the most out of my ea71.. long post LOL sorry guys
  14. Damn why are subaru engine's so undercarbed? so guys weber on ea71 or acquire that ea71 dual carb intake that my muffler guy teased me with and slap two ea82 hitachi's on it?
  15. 'L-series' is the designation used by subaru for a 85-93 'ea82' style subaru..but calling it an ea82 sub isn't right since it could be had w ea63, ea71 and ea82 power under the hood so I refer to it as subaru defines it so my car is a: 1989 Subaru L-Series DL wagon (or 'estate' for any euro guys on here) 1600 2WD 5 speed
  16. ok here's the info I have, which isn't that much SRX EA71 dual carb timing 10 degrees BTDC compression ratio 9.5:1 gear ratios 1st: 3.666 2nd:2.157 3rd:1.518 4th:1.156 5th:0.942 reverse: 4.1 final:3.7 I dunno what countries got this car but I live in Barbados and that's where the car I saw resides as well
  17. top plates for impreza are $$$$ lol and toe is adjustable but now that you've altered the camber what is the correct toe to adjust it to?
  18. from the car... white hatch with racing stripes had srx on the side under the hood EA71 w dual carbs 2wd w 5 speed fast as hell spank almost any auto 2wd EA81 GLF from back in the day.. also there's a referance to it in an owners manual for an 83 or 84 GLF that I got from a parts car.. I'll dig it up and see if it has more info.. I've also held the dual carb manifold in my hands w 2 hitachi carbs on it dreaming about hoe much work it'd take 2 put on my EA71 w two EA82 carbs...
  19. elfquest and subaru..who'd a thought there'd be another guy out there lol good luck on the rebuild lotsa fun there
  20. ok totally unrelated and I apologize in advance, but Redlance are you an elfquest fan?
  21. two words 'leading rod' by moving the lower control arm out you'll be shifting the leading rod out of alignment and the steel plate that is welded to the rod on the bushing end might touch the bracket that the leading rod assemble mounts to the car body with, also it will cause more toe-in which our cars really don't need. However as you are lowering the car it might off set the toe-in...I really dunno if I'd mess with the leading rod angle as it might just result in overlyworn bushings, rubbing of said steel plate and possible bending of the rod the next really big hole you get caught in or it might not ;-) it might work...
  22. very sweet man wish it was me ;-) I'm still collecting parts, 4wd subs are scarce around here..
