  1. hey guys ok it is an ea71 circa 1989 that means it had ea81 valves possibly hydraulic lifters (I've seen the label on another guys 1600) and a hitachi carb w electric choke, it has an ea82 bell housing with the starter on the left side of the car it supports all L-series accessories including power steering and AC so the block casting has threaded holes in it that earlier ea71s didn't have..Gotta remeber guys our cars come directly from japan and are RHD so while I've never seen an RX around here the only emission stuff our cars have are the PCV system and catalytic converter and we got 1600 L-series cars till '92-93 and they were never called 'loyale' like they were in the states or 'leone' like euro market subs... I dunno if I can get seafoam down here but I'll have a look... anyway I could get a scan from How to keep your sub alive about this? so if my car doesn't have the locking device and no label saying do not adjust then it might have solid lifters..but then I have no idea how it went from smooth quiet operation 2 clatter after I put in the MMO so that kinda points to hydraulic lifters not pumping up..arGH! thanks guys
  2. ok guys I adjusted my valve clarences on my EA71 and umm the valve noise that I was experiencing didn't go away...now I seem to recall that the noise started up when I did an oil change with a 3/4 quart of MMO and a napa gold filter....after thinking about it, going through alternatives and checking around it would seem I have adjusted valves that require no adjustment..that is that my EA71 has hydraulic lifters and the MMO while cleaning the engine put crud in suspension in the oil that clogged up the passages to the lifters and hence caused the noise..now don't get me wrong there is no evidence on my valve covers that say 'hydraulic lifters do not adjust' but having inspected another late model ea71 and seeing what these labels look like they could easily have come off... now the questions are: 1: how can I determine for sure other than taking my engine apart that it has hydraulic lifters? 2: if it does have hydraulic lifters and I'm able to clean the oil passages to them how do I restore the valves to the correct posistion that would allow the lifters to pump up to the correct level since I've in fact adjusted them out of spec?
  3. great news man I've seen an ea81 oil cooler setup it'd be very sweet for yall turbo guys wish I was one ;-)
  4. get those shocks replaced I've seen cars bunny hop off the road and fish tail out of control because of bad shocks.. also seen cars brake the rubber strust tower mounts and drive home..but damn drive slow and don't let the car leave the ground or even let that spring extend 2 much... get those compressors a coil spring releasing all it's energy at you can kill u violently..
  5. slap some PUGs on that but they're gonna rub I think...5bolt conversion maybe?
  6. dual carbs 4 EA71 came stock in a lil beast called the SRX basically a 2wd ea81 body hatch with hyped up engine (10:1 compression, dual carbs and a 'hot' cam) from everything I've heard they were pretty zippy
  7. I can confirm those ain't madrel bends I can also confirm that I wouldn't care if I had an ea82T to put that on.. awesome skip...
  8. ok guys my 2 cents; the space between the subs mounting flange and the cover must be illiminated and holes must be drilled in said cover to allow the front pressure wave from the subs to vibrate the air in the car, but not the air in the box...at no point must the back wave and front wave meet out of phase with each other which is what is happening in your setup with that space.. also find a way 2 fasten the storage cover to the car or else the pressure wave from the back of the speaker will push it open assuming the above has been done..the purpose of the box is to isolate the back wave from the front wave as they are 180 degrees out of phase with each other and cancel out any sound below a frequency determined by the diameter of the cone.. it is a good idea and will be nice once you figure out a way to do the above and also if your amp can handle it run the subs in parallel and not in series as you have them..also if you must run them in series make sure you go amp+ to +of right -of right to +of left - of left to - amp. left and right can be interchanged in the above so it can be amp+ to +left -left to +right -right to - amp.... umm ok nuff said Kaz
  9. they put EA71s and EA63s in EA82 (L-series) bodies from the factory :-) Kaz
