  1. If you use this method with success, would you mind PM me? I'm still in the drawing board stage of acquiring what parts I need so it won't be anytime soon. Thanks for help. Olnick: Thanks for the PM! Appreciate it Vincent
  2. Hi all, I think my 98 OBS 5MT is ready for a gear oil change in trans & rear diff. It has 183k on it and not sure if it has ever changed gear oil before. I'm wondering if it will hurt the trans/ diff if I change the oil cause I heard that some hi miles trans. went to heaven after the oil change. Anyone heard of anything like that? Thanks Vincent
  3. Ha... don't even mention snow... when it happens it's like WARM up here Way above freezing and everything's melting. And you know what, now the temp drop below 20F and the car works like charm... Guess suby just doesn't like to be spoiled...
  4. So, as sudden as it appears, it just suddently stops... or at least it's not as noticeable as the past couple days.... :-\ Cars....
  5. If you did not mess up your order, it should be 3 4 1 2 Front So the #1 SP looks different than the others Vincent
  6. That's what I thought. I am trying to see if I pull the 4WD plug will that help the issue. By the way, I can't seems to find the 4WD fuse... anyone would give me a pointer? Thanks
  7. No, everything above 3rd acts like it should. only 1st and 2nd when you feel the most eng. braking (when everyone' head is all over the place) then the noise comes.:-\
  8. I've heard that the HG problem is solved after 2005. If your looking @ 2006+ I think the chances is significantly lower. Vincent
  9. But that only happens on 1st and 2nd gear. If I get it up to 3rd it is nice and quiet.
  10. Yes it is 4WD, and it has same tires. And there is absolutely NO warning light at all in anyways (No 4WD light, no CEL). And like I said it was fine for the whole morning/noon and it just suddently start making noise.
  11. Ok, so my 1998 OBS, 5MT, 183k is making some noise somewhere from center to the rear. It only noticable on 1st and 2nd gear. When you let go the gas, you will hear something like "wo wo wo wo." It doesn't happen with 3rd and up, only in 1st and 2nd. It goes away if the clutch is in and the most funny thing is it just happens out of the blue. I was driving it alright for the whole morning till this afternoon. I don't recall doing anything stupid it just happened all of a sudden. my friend said it sounds like some bearing from the rear diff. I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas. thanks
  12. Hey Dave, the ans seems to be in this post, look @ #2 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83716&highlight=new+tensioner
  13. I'd love to hear if you have successfully done it or not. I read a post here a while ago that they're "interchangable"
  14. No problem, I figire I should just post that the problem is solved so people have clue if that will fix their problem or not. I got irritated when I left hanging not know if the "solution" fix the problem or not:lol:
  15. You are pretty much right. Take off the crank pulley off if not you can't get behind the timing belt cover. Then you need to take off the TB itself to get to the oil pump. Vincent
  16. For price I'm sure aftermarket is the best. FYI I spent almost $500 everyting OEM (TB, WP, Thermostat, 2 cam seals, new pulleys and new tensioner). I think called theimportexpert and they quote me $300 for a master kit which has ALL gasket/seals, WP, TB and pulleys. IF I have to do it again (x finger I don't have to) I'd probably go pulleys aftermarket, seals and TB OEM. It's up to you if you wanna do WP, thermostat, and tensioner. Most people will tell you to do it when your there (and trust me you really don't wanna do it again, at least soon). If you are tight on $$ or you have another car you can use, I guess you can skip those. Like I said, it's up to you and your situation. For the minimum I would definitely do TB since your car has interference 2.5 in it.
  17. Just got my starter replaced, now everything sounds great. I'll give it a few more days just to make sure. But so far so good!
  18. Found a 1997 OBS FSM online but it was all out of order. So i spent half a day rearrange it and here is the end result. It includes General Information, Mechanism And Function, Repair Section, Wiring Diagram Section, and Diagnostics Section. Under each of them are subsections. As I asked before there are some different between 1997 and 1998 OBS but mostly it should be about same. Enjoy:banana: http://www.badongo.com/file/13735964
  19. Your pretty much right. The Crank pulley is OUTSIDE the belt cover, while the Crank GEAR is INSIDE:grin: May I ask what car you have and what kind of trans.?
  20. Hi all, I just found a FSM for 97 OBS. I looked through it and the stuff seems to be pretty similar to my 98. So I'm wondering if there are anything I need to be leery of? They only thing that came to mind is the Eng turned into interference around that year and the timing belt tensioner changed into one-piece. Anything else? Thanks Vincent
