  1. wilco, just wondering though if there is a torque for the both and nuts for the starter. And is it a pretty straight forward replacement?
  2. I bought it through importexpert and it said it is reman. So I guess it should perform like new right?
  3. I ordered a 97-98 Imp Service Manual but it doesn't cover OBS at all... It has 1600, 1800, 2000 turbo and non-turbo. But nowhere can 2.2 can be seen. I found the closest to be 97 Leg OB FSM I download online but like you said... it's for Leg
  4. Hey nipper, It's kinda off topic but the Hayne's only has manual for Legacy Outback from 1990 to 1999 (or 1998). Will that work on 98 Imp OBS too?
  5. Ya, I think it's the solenoid but I can get a better deal with the whole starter.
  6. Hi all, I have a 1998 Imp OBS EJ22. I need to change the starter but not so sure how. Do I need to remove the cleaner box thing to get access to it? Is there any torque spec for the bolt and nuts or just as tight as I can get. I know it's also a dump question but I can't seems to be able to get the air filter upper housing off. It is 2 clips on the side but when I try to remove it something seems to can't come loose @ the bottom. I hope I don't have to remove the MAF just to check the air filter... Anyways, Thanks for any help! Vincent
  7. Just give you some references. I got all my pulleys (2 smooth, 1 teeth), TB, Hyd Tensioner, 2 Cam seals, water pump w/ gasket, Thermostat w/ gasket and PCV valve. All OEM. The total for parts only is a whooping $500. I looked @ some ebay kits and there is a master kit from theimportexpert. It's for 90 - 96. I called them up and they quoted me about $300 for my 98 Imp OBS. Not a bad deal at all. I would throw a OEM timing belt as I HEARD that they have been marking. Your 98 2.2 should be an interference eng so make sure you do it right. If not it could be a few thousand dollars fix:rolleyes:
  8. Here are a few post that had helped my along when I did mine couple weeks ago http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1694861 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541000 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21715 What is your transmission? Vincent
  9. I downloaded the 1997 - 1998 service manual but it only has the 4 dr sedan with 2.0l turbo. So it's not quite similar to my OBS. Vincent
  10. So I went to http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/index.jsp for my 1998 Imp OBS service manual. On the "Reference Publication" tab on top, under 1998, there are Impreza and Outback Sport. Anyone knows which one should I choose? Thanks! Vincent
  11. Sorry for digging up this old post but I'm wondering if the 2002 service manual will work for my 1998 Imp OBS with EJ22 in it. Thanks!
  12. I'm up Alaska and don't have autozone, all I have is schuck's and napa. I think getting one online is a better choose for me. I saw one "new" @ importexperts for like $92. It seems low to me. http://catalog.worldpac.com/triangle/wizard.jsp?partner=triangle&clientid=theimportexperts&baseurl=http://www.theimportexperts.com/&cookieid=2LB0R23XA2LB0W2ZG6&year=1998&make=SU&model=OUTS-4WD-001&category=F&part=Starter&appTransmissionType=Manual
  13. Is anyone has more thought on this? One more question, if it is really the starter not disengaging, would that do damage to the flywheel? Thanks
  14. LOL, mine will fall right in that category - 183k on I think it's orig. trans:banana:
  15. Hi all, I'm looking @ Redline trans. fluid and came across a few options. MTL, MT-90, 75W90NS, and 75W140NS. I'm in Alaska so I need something that will withstand the cold. Anyone have an opinion on which one I should get? Thanks all! Vincent
  16. No a problem. The noise only comes when I start the engine cold. If I start the engine warm, say turn it off for 5 mins and turn it back on, the noise is gone or almost gone. There is no weird noises when I depress/release clutch so I think I can rule clutch/flywheel out for now. Moreover, that noise doesn't seem to affect the drivablity, and seems like the previous owner drove it that way for a while.
  17. Isn't that part of the clutch? As far as I'm concern, my clutch works just fine.
  18. When I start the car cold, there is a low pitch squeaking noise coming from the engine. I have changed all the pulleys for the timing so it can be ruled out. Checked for all the v-belt they all looks good. My friend said it sounds like it's from the starter. He said it sounds like the starter is not disengaging after it started. Any ideas? Vincent
  19. Trying to get you a pic and this site shows up. http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/service/glossary-index.htm Roll to the middle and you will find MAF. It's usually that square thing that connect to the air filter upper cover.
  20. I thought he said the burned valve happens AFTER the emission. Who knows what recently means in his book:-\
  21. Ya, it's pretty easy to find the ECU. The light, at least on my Loyale, is toward the passenger side on the very top. It's hard to see in bright daylight. I think it's easier to look for it from the pax seat. Good luck.
