  1. Sweet that's comforting, or not. I am going to try do the timing belt myself with a friend of mine. I'm new in those things but my friend has more experience though never change a timing belt before. I've been reading tons of post of how to change timing belt and also got an Alldata account so I might just going to give it a try. So here are a few of my questions 1. How hard would that be to do the cam seal? 2. Do I need to take off the timing belt cover #2 (the back one)? 3. Do I need any special tools? 4. Anything I REALLY need to pay attention at? Thank alot! Vincent
  2. Hi all, I have small oil drips coming from the right hand (passenger side) engine and make the timing belt cover a little wet. However, I'm not entirely sure where it comes from. It looks like it's leaking between the RH timing belt cover and the engine. I am going to do my timing belt within the next couple month (when I get my $$ save up) so I'm debating should I shoot for that problem. If I do, I am wondering if it's the cam seal. Any idea would be appreciate Vincent P.S. it's a 1998 Imp OBS 5MT with 182540 mi on the Eng.

  6. To grossgary I have tried searching around the forum and been kept an eye on timing related topic since last week and didn't recall much about the diff. component you are talking about. To davebugs Yes it is a 2.2 and the guy I bought from already said there is a small leak from the Pax side seal (if I remember it right.) Vincent
  7. Hi all, I have a 98 Imp OBS and it's about time for timing belt change. I asked subarugenuineparts.com for a list of things I intent to get and here's the list. 13028aa102 = belt 13033aa042 - tensioner idlers: 13085aa080 13073aa142 13073aa190 However, when I go to theimportexperts.com they show: 2 - 13073 AA142; 1 - 13069 AA037; 1 - 13085 AA080; 1 - 13028 AA102 Anyone knows where the 13073aa190 comes from? My 2nd question is that do I need to replace the Sprockets (Left/Right Cam and Crankshaft) at all? Do they usually fail? Thank you in advance. Vincent
  8. Hi guys, I am experiencing some hard shifting on my 98 OBS MT. It happens mostly from 5th to 4th and into 1st. And it seems to happen mostly during downshifting. Upshifting usually smooth as silk. clutch was replaced in 2006 with 143k (if memory serves right). Should I do a transmission fluid flush? Is that a hard procedure? Thanks Vincent
  9. Run position, but does the Eng needs to be running too?
  10. That is what my chilton said too... but I just can't find the LED... I have looked around, pushed the wires aside and stuff and it just doesn't seems to be there. I turn the key to on and expect I'll catch some fleshing light but nope... nothing happen as far as I can see. Anyone can upload a pic of where it suppose to be?

  12. so I need to unhook all the wires to get the error code? How that works? Vincent
  13. I was trying to decode my check e lite on my 93 loyale. I unscrew the panel under the steering and found this. I'm not sure where the LED lite is or is it the ECU @ all. Thank you in advance!
  14. Thank you thank you thank you!! I will do that hopefully this weekend. Now I'm enjoying my "new" 98 Impreza obs:banana::banana:
  15. Thank you for the info. I have looked @ that post (assume the one I read is the one you are talking about). The only problem is I don't know where the module is. I have looked under the hood and there is nothing looks like a module with LED light on it. Vincent
  16. Thanks for the idea, I think I can use my friend's heated garage if he allows. Will that help?
  17. Today I changed the fuel filter, PCV Valve, and the V-belt. The car still seems to have the problem although it is not as profound. I'm not sure if it's because it was sat in a heated garage for half a day or what. The check engine light is still on. My friend who help me to do the work said put some engine cleaner and drive for 1/2 to a full tank. Then he also suggested to call up some shops to see if they can decode the check eng light for me. My friend also said there is an exhaust leak AFTER the muffler. An nothing looks too suspicious other than that. Forgot to mention that all the fluid level are good, including coolent. Any ideas?
  18. So I found this block heater https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_49&products_id=65 Anyone has any experience with them? Does it comes with installation guide? Thanks Vincent
  19. So, since I got my "new" subi, I'm planning to do my best to keep it in good shape as her "old man" does. Anyways, I'm think to drop a block heater since she doesn't comes with one. I am wondering if anyone has any idea at all since I know most of you guys are from warmer place than, say, Alaska. I have a friend of mine who is capable of doing things on cars (Man I'm glad to have him live just down the block) and I think I can ask him for some helps. I really appreciate any of your help! Vincent
  20. I bought the subi with $2800. The guy turned out to be an a/c mechanic and seems to keep the car in good shape. Hope this little rocker will last for a while! Thanks guys! Vincent
  21. I don't know if it's off topic but I think it worth mention here. My check eng light has been kept on even time I start the car now. Usually it will just do some random on & off. The previous owner has took her in and Subaru (I suppose the dealer) said there were nothing wrong. Since the jump start the light is kept on and it's really unusual. I have looked around the repair manual here and the closest I could find is the "Subaru ECU Codes for 1983-1988." The post said I should be able to look for the code from the Oxygen Sensor Monitor or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp but I may be dumb or something I just don't know where they are. I look through my chilton and it doesn't seems to mention where is the LED module. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will keep on when I turn the key to "on" position. Would anyone mind giving me a few pointer? I'm sorry to be such a pain... Vincent
  22. ahh... thank you. So is/are there any particular items I should look for other than timing belt?
