What's it worth??
I am selling my '00 outback wagon - 5 spd. 174K miles. I am having trouble figuring out a fair price. Blue Book says $7460, NADA says about 6500-8500. I see them online at various prices, but I don't know what they actually are selling for. I want to find a good home for her and be fair to the buyer, but I don't want to give it away either. It's a goos solid car, a few issues, but the body/paint is good, the engine is strong, no leaks, doesn't burn oil. Anybody want to take a crack at advising me on what you think it's worth? Thanks, Bob

Farewell....
Hi Folks, Just a note to thank all of you Subaru masters for your assistance over the past year or so. I have learned a great deal about my car and have gotten some great advice and assistance from everyone... Especially from Nipper, Gnuman and the 1 Lucky Texan. Thank you. Unfortunately I have to let go of my Subaru... (and replace it with a minivan, ugh) I hate to get rid of this car, I love it! And you folks have given me a great appreciation for Subarus. I'm sure I will be back one day. Thanks to all. PS: Know anybody in NJ in the market for 2000 OBW? Regards, Bob

Forester Catalytic Converter Question
Broyer replied to rn7532's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom what I've read on other posts relating to the o2 sensors, it appears that they output of the sensors can be measured. Maybe the Soob dealer can test them before replacement. Search P0420 for all kinds of info on o2 sensors and cc's.

Code P 0420?
I just had the codes read on my "00 OBW. It came up with two instances of P 0420 "Bank 1 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold". The guy at Autozone said it has something to do with the ignition at cylinder one, either a spark plug, or plug wire. Does this sound right to you guys? I had the codes reset and the CEL light has been off for about 150 miles. He also said the CEL would probably come back on before I left the lot. Some history: I have had a CEL for the last 80K miles or so. It was a different code in the past. P 0500, I think. I have recently seafoamed it, and then about 3 months later put techron in the tank. After the techron, the CEL light has gone off a few times for about 100 miles and then comes back on. Any ideas? Thanks

A Thought for Subaru: 200,000 mile (320,000km) club.
Broyer replied to Gnuman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBadges? We don' need no stinkin' badges.... (I forget which movie that line is from, but I couldn't resist.)

Kumho Grand Touring reviews?
Broyer replied to brus brother's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have Kumho Solus on my '00 OBW and I think they are excellent. Firm grip in the rain, low noise and good tread wear so far. I think they're a good choice. Excellent tires at a great price. The best value I could find. Good Luck!

Very Impressed with my new Subaru
Broyer replied to stedler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou are right of course, but it would be easier to get in and out of the car when you park in a snow drift....

Very Impressed with my new Subaru
Broyer replied to stedler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAll great stories... I love my OBW, especially during a snowstorm. I made a point of travelling around my neighborhood during the last bad snow storm we had to see how well the car would do. It is amazing. There were areas that had not been plowed where the snow was several inches higher than the ground clearance my car provides, and the car did not miss a beat. It was cool looking at my tracks in the rear view... There were two tire tracks with a smooth area of snow between them and deeper snow on the outside! It really is an awesome vehicle but I do wish I had more ground clearance. I can't wait for the next snow storm!! (Although I am enjoying the summer heat right now) Regards, Bob

420 Converter Error on 00 OBW
Broyer replied to pldawg's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry, but I originally posted this question incorrectly under the original thread, but here is my question again.... Does anybody know if Subaru is still honoring recall WXW80? I have a 2000 OBW w/ 170K miles with the same problem. I have never replaced the sensors because the car runs fine and I seem to get decent mileage. (24MPG avg.) This recall did not come up for my VIN. However, I read on some other thread that Subaru covered it for other VIN's not included in the original recall. Does anyone know and should I take it to Subaru or would I be wasting my time... Thanks as always for sound advice!

Headgasket question?
I have looked through some of the past posts regarding potential headgasket failure and still have some questions. I realize I do this at the risk of being slammed for asking a dumb question, but here goes... I have a 2000 OBW with EJ252 engine (from the nameplate in the engine compartment) and 170K miles on it. I realize any car can blow a head gasket at any time... My questions are: 1. Is this one of the engines with "a history of HG problems"? 2. Are there any preventive measures I can take to reduce the chances of blowing a head gasket? 3. Is there anything I can look for that may indicate a potential HG failure is imminent? Thanks.

New Clutch
Broyer replied to cannonball's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat is a great price... I just paid $950 for clutch only. The dealer quoted $1200. I had some shudder as well. It seems to have gone away.

Tire Replacement...all four Mandatory?
Broyer replied to CSBOMB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis thread has all of a sudden got me concerned... I just replaced one tire on my 00 OBW - 5 speed. The others have about 30K on them, but they look like they have alot of life left on them. I replaced the one tire because a tire specialist told me it was bad. I was having them rotated and balanced and he noticed this particular tire was not running true. I have put about 7K on the car since the tire replacement, mostly highway. The only thing I have notice lately is that sometimes, it will not slip easily into first gear when I am moving slowly. I just replaced the clutch, and was wondering if this was related to the new clutch, or maybe me not quite used to the new clutch. What should I do? I can't afford new tires all around, but I definitely can't afford a new transmission. I will try to measure the circumfrence of all tires this afternoon. I agree with one of the posts that stated you could easily get beyond the 1/4" circ. tolerance from normal wear... Any advice? Bob:confused:

buying advice for an 00 OBW
Broyer replied to dhoch14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have an 00 OBW. I bought it with 65K and currently have 170K. It has been fairly reliable, but repairs can be expensive as I cannot do most of them myself. It seems many of the folks on here do alot of major work themselves (and I am frankly jealous of their skills). They do provide great advice and I have learned alot about my car from reading the various threads. I can tell you I have had to replace the wheel bearings - Rear at 111K and front at 140K - $500.00 each time. I had the timing belt/water pump replaced at about 165K - $500.00. I let it go a little long, but had no trouble. I just had a new clutch installed - $900. The tires were fairly new when I bought it and I replaced them at 124K. I have had the sway bar links replaced as well. I have replaced the brakes and rotors twice. I change the oil every 4 - 5K. I have a problem with the heater control in recirc mode that I cannot seem to find a solution to. Noone on here seems to know either. It makes a clicking noise under the dash when I put it in recirc mode. I just leave this off. The check engine light has been on for about 2 years. The codes indicate an o2 sensor or catalytic converter. The car runs great and I get great mileage (about 25 MPG overall), so I have not had it fixed. If I reset the computer, the light goes out for about a week and comes back on. I am very happy with the car and it looks and runs great! The car is amazing in the snow and the heated seats are a huge plus. I will keep it until it dies. I am curious to see how long that will be. I have a feeling I will be driving this car for a long time. At that point I will be looking for a new Soob. I want a sunroof in my next one.... Good Luck! Bob

'97 Outback tire recommendations?
Broyer replied to v8volvo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI put a set of Kumhos on my 2000 OBW and I think they are great. I've put about 25K on them and they look like new. They were much less expensive than the Michelins. I chose them based on some of the consumer reviews I read. Good Luck!

Wind Noise--luggage rack?
Broyer replied to Eric Barr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy 2000 OBW did the same thing. Drove me crazy. Just this past week I decided to remove the crossbars. It made a tremendous difference. The car is much quieter on the highway. Also, I have the rear spoiler over the rear hatch. I don't know what impact, if any, this has on wind noise.

Seafoam proves itself
Broyer replied to Gnuman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, I'm going to go ahead and use it... I'll use 1/3 in the intake, 1/3 in the crank case, and 1/3 in the gas tank. I'll let you know the results on Monday!

Seafoam proves itself
Broyer replied to Gnuman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have read a lot about Seafoam in the past day or so. I have a 2000 OBW with 163K on it. I have read some cautions about using this product in the crankcase with high mileage vehicles... It could soften the seals and cause leaks. Has anyone had any problems? I've already bought the can and I am just waiting to try it. I'm looking forward to the smoke show. Hopefully my neighbors don't call the fire dept.

Vibration when braking
Broyer replied to hutch85's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust another thought... I ran into this on my 2000 OBW. Check the wheel balance. If the wheels are not balanced, you may feel the vibration in the steering wheel when you touch the brakes....

clicking noise under dash in "recirc" mode
Broyer replied to Broyer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt is a continuous clicking. It sounds like something is trying to move, like a vent trying to close, but it can't close all the way and keeps snapping back and forth. That's about the best I can describe it. I have let it go for about 2-3 minutes and it seems it will just keep going until I turn it off. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

clicking noise under dash in "recirc" mode
I have a 2000 OBW and I get a clicking noise under the dash when I put the HVAC in recirc mode. I read this was a common problem in early 2000 models, but I could not locate a solution. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Thanks! Bob

Loud noise??
Broyer replied to Broyer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for your reply. I took a look at some other postings regarding wheel bearings and I think thats the case. It is most likely the wheel bearing. I will probably have both rear replaced if it is not too expensive. I don't think I'll tackle this one by myself. Thanks again!

Loud noise??
Hi Folks: My first post....I'd appreciate any help you could offer. I have a 2000 outback legacy, 110K miles, 5 speed. I have a loud noise coming from the drivers side rear and some slight vibration I can feel in the floor. It becomes extremely loud at highway speeds. I thought it was the tires, it gets louder as you go faster and sound like choppy tires. I had them rotated and balanced with no change. The mechanic at the tire store believes it is mechanical, but admitted he did not know much about Soobs. Anybody have any ideas? Also, for the second time I have a broken lug bolt. The nuts seems to fuse to the bolt and they break off when you remove the lug nut. The mechanic told me it is common with outbacks?? Again, thanks for any feedback. Bob
