  1. For now I'm going to use the 3.9 until its toast, I have the transmission and rear diff from my legacy with 4.11 that I will use after that. I wheel mainly snow and sand, since we don't have many trails down here. But also do a lot of rallying on forest roads. I would love to do the dual range swap and had everything to do it on the legacy, but sold it off after it was totaled.
  2. When I first lifted my Legacy, I used Forester struts and springs. Then I got a set of Legacy Outback struts and springs, and found that the Legacy OB struts give more clearance between tire and spring perch, allowing for larger tires. Also the Forester springs are taller, but can be compressed and swapped over to the OB struts. Eventually I ended up with Legacy OB struts and King springs for a Forester and 27" General Grabbers, but had plenty of room to go with a larger tire.
  3. Good point about the weight transfer, I may need it once I get the King springs on. I went ahead and pulled the valve and the hill holder off the legacy before scrapping it yesterday. I will get the King's on first and see how it does with the larger tires I plan to run, it may not 'feel' so bad. How has your pad consumption been, between front and rear?
  4. Well after spending a few years in the Toyota world, and having my truck stolen this year. I decided I would finally make the switch back to Subaru's I picked up a '97 Outback Sport, with a 5-speed and 211k, earlier this year. So I started stripping my old Legacy for..everything pretty much Got my Primitive Skidplates from the Legacy onto the OBS, right away And proceeded to build the Legacy's rear disc hubs, with new bearings, parking brake kits, lug studs, pads and rotors, oh and I turned my calipers into Brembo's Recently did this, for the traction control mod originally, but has turned out to be a lot of fun in the rain . Being able to lock up the inside tire, and spin the outside tire lets the car break traction very quick. And last weekend went from this To this Much more to come soon, I hope. Here is a teaser as to what will be coming. Couple things I would like some feedback on. 1. When I did the disc conversion, I also installed the Legacy master cylinder which was 1-1/16" versus the OBS's 1". The pedal seems very firm now, and it does not seem to be sending much braking power to the rear. I'm still getting some good nose dive on hard braking. Should I also swap over the Legacy proportioning valve? 2. To anyone that has done the dual parking brake mod on an EJ-disc brake car, have you had good luck with it? While the OBS still had the drums it seemed to work very well, being that the disc-hub parking brake drums are considerably smaller, I'm second guessing whether it will prove functional. Im having a hard time getting them to lock up well.
  5. We get it! you're better than us:grin: just because you have the equipment, materials, know how to build lift blocks, subframe etc doesnt mean you have to put people down because they are doing something that they can do themselves. Yeah its simple, thats why people do it. Gained clearance is gained clearance no matter how you look at it and that is considered a lift IMO.

sweet soobiedoo!! Im about 8 miles from the turn. You'll have to go up with daredevil1166 and I sometime. Hopefully i have another subaru by then. Lolo pass is great, always different(yet the same), awesome hiking, views and winter wheeling

    Mt. Hood

Lolo Pass road(Zig Zag) is pretty good right now. Just turn left straight across from the Zig Zag Inn(pizza parlor). The snow has been coming down pretty good recently. Picture is from last week 4/2. Alot more has fallen since then
  8. I'll be out there in my Toyota again, leaving around 7am see you guys there
  9. Everyone has different results. I put OB struts on my legacy and before that I had forester struts. Ive bought new axles(NAPA-never again) and had them start clicking 5 hours later:mad: Ive also bought new axles from MWE, a quality rebuilt SUBARU axle lasted a few months, some lasted a couple days. And in the end Subaru axles from the Junkyard have always lasted the longest. Who knows maybe the axle is on its way out, but if it was because that CV was old and worn in one spot then shouldnt all of his axles be clicking? Personally, if youre not going through axles, You're not having enough fun:grin:
  10. But he will fit the 215/70, since thats what he was inquiring about in his ORIGINAL POST. And as Bheinen74 not all 75 series tires are same dimensions, in theory ,yes, they should be, but not in reality.
  11. But you arent sure of the offset either. Unless YOUVE measured it YOU DONT KNOW EITHER When i first came across this website i thought it was great, but now its just a competition of "who knows what and who doesnt"...... lame And the question of whether a 235/75R15 would fit on his outback. WAS NOT his original question. Now back to topic. I would say as long as they dont rub at full lock up front, you will be fine in the rear.
  12. This will be great, even without a soob for me:mad: daredevil1166 and i are staying near Barview Saturday night, we were thinking of going to TSF on our way out there on Sat. If anyone is interested in roaming around with us on Saturday PM me.
  13. Yeah sorry about that losing you guys, we went up the road to find where the spots Chaz said would be difficult for daredevil1166 but he had no problems. We actually came down the trail, where the XJ was playing when we first stopped. I scraped up a door a little bit and daredevil's outback made it through cleanly. We continued to drive around to look for you guys but no luck. We eventually got to the gate for the tower/lookout. I made it around in the Toy but the Outback was just a bit too long and he crunched his driver quarter panel a bit. I went up to the tower real quick and could barely make out the lake below. It was a pretty busy day out there, we ran into a group of 8 jeeps, later 2 exocaged 4runners, and later still an exocaged Sammi.
  14. What kind of rigs are you going with? Im short a soob for a while, but i have a 4wd Toyota-stock w/ 31's I might try to get some new treads after work today though
  15. Im down to go. I wont have my wagon though(totaled last month) I will have my 4wd Toyota, if thats cool with you guys? I want to see how it does compared to what the wagon could do out there.
  16. Yep...damage report here. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=202503#post202503 Yeah, i know those hidden ditches man. Hi-lift and a couple logs does the trick...most times. Ive been stuck in the snow more than a few times and the hi-lift is the one thing thats always saved me time, and effort. if Lolo gets too bad theres a road just across 26 thats a little bit lower that goes for a while up to a dead end that has a pretty neat little crawling section up a couple mounds and across a couple road closing ditches then the road dead ends again like 1/2 mile
  17. This 2612 you speak of, is that 32 Road just past Camp Creek CG? Ive never noticed a gate through there. Looks like i went up there just at the right time then, before they closed the gate.
  18. Nice! Looks like a great time, Ive been wanting to hit up Lolo lately, but my wagon got totaled last Friday night:mad: someone pulled out in front of me on Orient. Oh well, guess its time to lift an impreza:) Did you try airing down at all?
  19. Ive noticed that the entrance to Trillium and Still Creek both have "Road Closed" gates. EDIT: But they are not closed yet. But I havent seen any going in the way i always do. It will be interesting to get back there after the gates are closed and we have our own little snow wheeling area:banana:
  20. Yeah, Im pretty sure it was the road that starts at Still Creek. My map calls it 2613?? I never come in that way though, there is a 4 way somewhere along that road that takes you to East to Trillium Lake West to Camp Creek and 32 Road North to Veda Lake, and Devil's Lookout Tower Trailheads South to Still Creek(I believe) I always take 32 Rd. past Rhododendron and rally the gravel roads up to the intersection coming from the West. We went North past Veda Lake TH and Wolf Camp Butte to Kinzel Lake near the Devil's Lookout TH.
  21. Spent Saturday and Sunday in the snow. Pics are from Saturday, with a buddy off subaruoutback.org. About 6-8 inches in most places, nice, fresh snow. Overnight saturday was about another 8-10 inches new and was able to find a road that hadnt been trailblazed yet:banana: Plowed snow in 2nd at bumper level for awhile, started bogging down 1st didnt help, so i aired down to 20, and walked through the rest of it:eek:
  22. Man you guys are d**** Start with King Springs, and new struts, bigger tires Good Luck
