winterforce tires
1-3-2-4 replied to goof_ball's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo 17 MPG for my last fill up sounds kinda about right? I have to really wait for my next full tank fillup so I can re calculate.

question on a 98 Forester
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwell I'm not really looking at a Ej25 engine so I really had no real reason to focus on them. I've heard of other engines at NASIOC having issues with the rod bearings but I can't remember which.

winterforce tires
1-3-2-4 replied to goof_ball's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwow i would never pay that much for winter tires.. this is my first year with them and mine are not studded. I looked at those reviews on tirerack as well.. it was between this and that General winter tire.. I think they were both the same price at the time

Catalytic Converter
my front stock cat is starting to rust at the wield behind the flange.. and at the time I did not have spring bolts (temporary setup) I just used normal bolts.. well now with hitting all the snow and all the donut gasket is leaking along with it.. i do have a Subaru gasket I picked up last year but for some reason it did not seal well at all because I had to use a center pipe from a 2.5 GT.. Anyways long story short I was going to buy a bosal front cat and go ahead and replace the front 02 sensor. i've never had any 02 code so would changing the 02 sensor at 235,000 be helpful or a waste of money? here is a little clip I made this morning. Also I don't know the center pipe which has the hallow resonator I used OEM Subaru gaskets Donut and the one that connects the rear muffler they all had poor seals so I don't know if something changed between 1995 and a 1999 2.5 GT? The muffler is from a 2.5 GT wagon by the way. they don't use any sealant on the rear center to muffler gasket do they?

question on a 98 Forester
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXshe's looking to spend no more then $2,000 for a 1999 and I told her that's not going to happen for a loong while. Most seem to still be priced in the $3500-4200 range. My only concern is I never set the timing on a DOHC I've done my own timing belt on my car and it was easy as pie (95 legacy)

question on a 98 Forester
My mother had a 98 forester long time ago.. However when the front oil seal leaked we got rid of it (before I started working more on the car) Anyways She's looking at another.. i can't remember what are the major issues with the engine? Did this model or the 2nd gen have issues with the head gaskets? I think the first gen used the EJ25D?

winterforce tires
1-3-2-4 replied to goof_ball's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm not sure what the op was really saying but I have winterforce tires on my car and it's great but my last gas mileage was only 17 MPG at best but then again the last full tank I put in was like 3 weeks ago and before that I was having to get cars unstuck.. but good tires they did very well in 10 inches I decided to drive in a unplowed lot.. too bad I had no camera set up. this past snow we had I felt ok driving 60 MPH on the highway with about 3 inches of snow/slush mix.

Car wont run
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe Bosch comes with the strainer my old one is yellow looking and looks rather nasty.. I have some close up pictures of it before I put it back in. I need to check my gas light because mine used to come on before it just rests on the peg and now I haven't seen it on in months now.. I will have to search the threads I think I remember a thread like that. A interesting thing to note is just under a half a tank the fuel level comes up to the fuel pump about 2 inches covering it. the pump I got is from here nipper found it for me which is not a bad deal.. Better then a cheap Chinese pump... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130466486539 I did express so it should be here no later then Tuesday. Car wont run
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyeah it's very simple.. it took me longer to get the hoses off the top assembly then it took to put it back in. so back in the house. So I go ahead and take the pump off the fuel assembly and try to fire it up again.. (all I did was take the rubber hose off the line) and the pump started working.. Sounds pretty flaky to me. So I popped it back in the car and sure enough I turn the car to "ON" and I hear the pump prime the line and the car starts... Well I ordered a new Bosch pump better to be safe then sorry.

Is it the fuel pump?
1-3-2-4 replied to akjruthies's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOk about that you know that rubber part that sits under the pump the one I'm looking to get does not have that but it should fit the new pump right with no issues? *edit I might just get this one instead http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FUEL-PUMP-1994-1995-SUBARU-Legacy-BRAND-NEW-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem230b194d97QQitemZ150510062999QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

1-3-2-4 replied to akjruthies's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyep.. good thing I got curious and took the whole assembly out it is a very generic part.. and for the record I just hooked the pump to 12v here in the house and still wont run.. I guess that solves that

1-3-2-4 replied to akjruthies's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't know if you saw (I did not mean to post to this tread) I cranked with the fuel line disconnected and I got no flow at all. I just took the whole assembly out of the car.

Car wont run
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDoes anyone have a picture of the fuel pump assy for a 1995? Most of the stuff I see online is for WRX. I guess since I will have this all out I might as well replace the seal between the fuel assy and tank?

Car wont run
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi tripled checked and yep no flow from the pump I was unsure so I just pulled the line from the pump to the fuel filter.. you could just see the dribble of gas sitting in the line. this car-parts.com are they trust worthy? And the car-parts.com one is used too right? edit well car-parts was pointless so far most of these places close at 12 pm on Saturday. *edit 2 screw it.. most of those places are 50+ miles from me or close at 12 PM or the stock in a trailer that they can't get to till Monday... I think I'm just going to order the part from ebay I can just take the train. I did it for almost 3 years before I got this car so what's a few days worth?
