  1. Read the label. Bon Ami says not to use it on glass. Try Bar Keepers Friend. ~ Mark-O ~
  2. Hey, That's not good tire wear as you know. My 97 OBW went 70K on the original tires. They had tread left when I got new ones. I always ran the air pressure listed on the door jam. The car felt like it was on rails, very safe feeling and I had no reason to want anything different in the handleing department. When I got my new tires the shop put close to 10 psi more in the new ones. The rails where gone road noise up. I lowered to the prescribed pressure and I am convinced that this is better. I suggest trying the OEM recomendation for a while. You may find you like it. IF the wear is still uneven your rig has a problem. My 4 cents. Mark-O
  3. Here's how my '97 fans work. One of the two fans will come on with the A/C no matter what the coolent temp. (I think it's the right side, passenger. EZ to check) The other one comes on when the coolent gets hot enough. So to get both fans on takes hot coolent and the A/C. (this is in my owners manual too I think) So it sounds like the problem could stem from a non-functional thermostat or relay. (not the thermostat that opens to let coolent into the radiator, the one that closes an electrical switch to enable a relay to run the other fan) Heck if your lucky it could be a loose wire. Maybe the '01 is different, but don't blow $200 + until you consider this information. :-\ Good luck, Mark
  4. Hey, If your Impreza is like my 97 Legacy there is no speedo cable. At least I think so and here's why. When my alternator bit the big-one, one of the last clues was my dash gauges all died even the analog looking speedo and odometer. I drove for a few miles at zero mph and logged no miles. I may be wrong about the cable but if there is a cable it is not a simple mechanical hook-up like the old days. Good Luck & let us know what you find. Dash noises are so annoying. ~ Mark ~
  5. Ditto here, except I buy mine at TC's OFF ROAD in Kent. I've used it for years and this is one of those products that is worth the price. Yep it costs more.
  6. Remember that the jack has to fit when you need it most. When you have a flat tire. The car is much lower then. Been there, never again! ~ Mark ~
  7. 97 Legacy Outback, 2.5L, 4 cam. 75K miles. Been great. I hear tapping until the engine is warm (piston I guess). Front Oil seal Leak! About 1/3 quart for 3K miles, it is unfortunate that all of the oil is vaporized on the cat! I smell antifreeze in traffic once in a while... could it be that beater in front of me? I monitor the coolant. Seems no loss at all. Alternator took a dump in the middle of eastern WA (no where) on a Saturday. 105+° no shade. A bit of brake pulse is rearing it's head, oh well. I'm optimistic that this rig will last. So far no other atypical problems. ~ Mark ~
  8. Try Superior Repair "Those Subaru Guys" Located near you in south King County WA. I have gone there and was satisfied with the experience. Kind of a hole in the wall but think low overhead. 206 433 1709 Good Luck, ~ Mark ~
  9. My 97 Outback (2.5L) also has this slight tap or more like a knock when cold. Has had it for... well almost forever. Has 70K miles now. The rough idle may be something else. I would say the idle is smooth on mine even when I can hear the knock. Or is it just your perception due to the noise? Good Luck, Mark P.S. Thanks for the link Dr.!
  10. Hey, The dog and me will try to be there. If you would give directions I would be grateful. There sure is a lot of us in the P.N.W. huh. Mark B
