aftermarket axles...
Is there any real difference between the aftermarket axle manufacturers (e.g. EMPI, Cardone, FEQ) or is it all the same cheap Chinese crap? Thanks, --Damien

"Ghost Walking"
efseiler replied to ShawnW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOK...so you have the guts to talk to me like that...but a law-abiding citizen in one state can be a serious felon in another and vice-versa. Sooo...kids and adults alike need to think about that. --Damien

efseiler replied to ShawnW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXReally? Who cares about some lousy law...grow up, graduate from Kindergarten and get a waiver. Sorry you people have to live under such a tyranny...but I guess there's a reason for everything. --Damien -- When guns are outlawed...only lawyers will have guns.

Q: header pipe...
Hi, Is the header pipe the same for EJ22 and EJ25? I have a '98 wagon (std). Thanks! --Damien

Temperature gauge acting strangely
efseiler replied to Kassie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI thought the redesign they implemented in the latter half of '99 solved that problem in the 2.5L engines but that does kinda sound like a blown HG to me. I don't those years of Subaru well but I would get a 2.2L engine put in there if you can. They are as tough as the toughest Samurai warriors. --Damien

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I played with it for a while but to me it seemed that the switch was the problem...in any case...one snip...problem solved. It was easier than brain surgery! Over and out, --Damien

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah...it was that very switch...it was shorting that circuit out. I solved it by cutting one of the leads to it. Now it doesn't blow the fuse anymore. Cheers! --Damien

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually a short in the glove box was blowing that very fuse. When I would open the glove box the fuse would blow. I think I must have re-inserted the bulb in the socket incorrectly when I took it out to inspect it. When I took the bulb out and tried it again...the fuse didn't blow.

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I examined the fuses more closely and, sure enough, the one for 'illumi' was blown. So, after replacing the fuse, it works again. As for the glove box light, I don't know...I know the bulb is fine.

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey thanks...that's helpful. No I thought of the obvious...but even with the wheel all the way down it would still be a little lit...right? :-) Another thing that doesn't work is when I pull the windshield wiper stalk it engages the wiper motor but not the spray...(it did work sometimes...but only very intermittently). This makes me think that there could be a corroded contact somewhere in there or something.... :-/

Illumi control mod location...
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell...one of my rear tail lights flooded with water shorting one of the bulbs out... I think that may have contributed. :-/

Illumi control mod location...
Is the Illumination Control module located behind the glove box or underneath the steering wheel in a '98 outback wagon? My instrument lights are all out (along with the glove box light) and it makes night driving a little problematic. I think that the ICM may be the cause.... I checked fuses and they all seem to be intact... Thanks! --Damien

Water in taillight housing...
Hi, I have an Outback wagon which accumulated water within the taillight housing. It was almost halfway full of water before I put a pinhole at the bottom of the housing to drain it out (knowing of no other way to do it). Is there some sort of drain plug within these units which got clogged ? How could water be getting in there in the first place? Is it difficult to remove the housing for inspection? Thanks for your ideas/input... --Damien

headlights burn out continually
efseiler replied to lsabol's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI used to have a Geo Metro years ago that would constantly have alternators burn out on me. Maybe it's just a bad run at the factory and your supplier got the lot of them. Impurities in the tungsten...some residual oxygen within the bulb. Maybe something within the electrical system of your car suppling excessive voltage. --Damien

P0400 code
efseiler replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think ethanol in fuel can also trigger such a code cuz it alters the vapor pressure. --Damien

Axle longevity?

Axle longevity?
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell it's a 'used car dealer' as opposed to a 'new car dealer'. Most folks around here can't afford NCD so there are UCD for us instead. The inner race isn't green...but I know for sure it's FEQ. Uninterested?? I usually get a 'slap on the wrist' for even thinking that I'm going to steal someone else's job as a mechanic! :-) Cheers! --Damien

Found some unique radiator sludge in the overflow
efseiler replied to AdventureSubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHeehee...yeah. Weird stuff has been known to grow in odd places. I don't know...silicates? All I know is brake fluid smells just like lemonade to me. Damien

P0400 code
efseiler replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, have a look in the hoses connected to the EGR valve...they oftentimes get clogged with carbon deposits. Try replacing your air filter, too. I use additives in my fuel and also apply Seafoam (every car lover's favorite organic solvent) from time to time. Cheers! --Damien

P0400 code
efseiler replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAre you sure? I thought the EVAP system was suppose to feed vapors from the tank (which would otherwise be lost to space since no system is completely airtight) into the intake manifold. You'd be suprised...cars are engineered push-pull. This means a failure on one end of the system can trigger a problem on the other. --Damien

Axle longevity?
efseiler replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, I'll see what my dealer thinks. He said many of those axles work fine...but others fail. --Damien

P0400 code
efseiler replied to matt167's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThose components are connected so it's unsurprising that one would trigger a code on the other end of the system. That system is supposed to recirculate tank vapors and exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to insure a most thorough burning of fuel.
