  1. I am going to try to make my car more water proof. I have a 1990 loyale that I drowned out last Saturday. I plan on: Dielectric greasing the connections and plug wires Using a thick rubber glove over the distributor with the fingers cut and the wires run through the fingers and zip tied. Same type thing on the coil The rearend, tranny breathers extended Reseal my intake track. Somehow water got in past my snorkel Reinstall the body drain plugs with silicone Seal the other holes, with fiberglass? Maybe or will it pop up from the floor? Automatic bilge pump Move the ecu higher. Current one was under water How do I keep water out of the power steering fluid? Engine oil? Just rtv the caps? Where can I get large amounts of dielectric grease? All I see is 3 oz tubes. I disconnect the connectors and squirt some in there but do I put it on the back side where the wires run into the connector also? What about open connectors? Do I need to worry about connectors that I'm not using?
  2. how about "my car needs more waterproofing"?
  3. I have an ecu on the way. I was expecting it to be more than $45 from a junkyard. Mine does look pretty toasty.
  4. How do I change the power streering fluid? It is the only fluid left that looks like chocolate milk
  5. I'm ahead of the game there. I pulled the interior and drain plugs awhile back. Only thing inside are the front seats that will absorb water. If it wouldve had the drainplugs in I wouldve floated. I did float through the first deep hole but I took on too much water in the second. In the first hole the car was floating and my tractor tires propelled me through.
  6. I misjudged the depth of a water crossing and stalled my car in Windshield deep water. What do I need to replace to get it running again? All oils are getting replaced. What do I do about the wet ecu? Buy a new one? Anything else?
  7. having the radiator inside the cabin would solve my lack of a heater in the winter. Where would you run the radiator hoses? Underneath the car isn't an option because of the obstacles I will encounter
  8. the problem with mounting it in the rear is where in the rear? With a wagon i have the roof, the hatch door or the cargo area. The cargo area sounds hot and dangerous, not sure how feasible the hatch door would be, so I'm thinking roof. Mount it parallel to the roof about where a sunroof would be. Fill it perpendicular to the roof to get the air out. Put some electric fans on it (would 4 [2 push, 2 pull] be overkill or pointless?) mount a protective cover to keep debris from falling on it.
  9. Where can I relocate my radiator to so it doesn't get caked with mud? I was thinking on top of the motor like the Subaru buggy or a friend said on the roof. Does anyone know how to make a high pressure windshield washer? I saw a mud racing truck that ran PVC around the front windshield and sprayed water on his windshield that whole run. I don't know what to use as nozzles or if I could just drill holes in the PVC.
  10. Got it stuck last night. I went to one of my family's ponds and went through it too easily in 4wd so I put it in fwd and the tractor tires dug too fast and I buried the front end and then I clicked in 4wd and tried to back up and the back end sunk. The onlookers said it looked like I was in quicksand it sunk so fast. Two 4x4 trucks couldn't pull me out so I had to call mom to bring a tractor. After I got out I left it in 4wd and went back through the same spot. One one side of the pond there is a dirt mound so I hit it with a litle bit of speed and ramped out into the mud. My buddy said I was 6 feet in the air and nose dived. Good times! I was everyone's hero for the rest of the day. Bill, are you still sure you wanna make me that lift? haha My front shackles need to be on the bumper because I had to dig them out of the mud.
  11. 1990 loyale wagon My passenger side front brake is dragging/scraping. The sound goes away when I barely engage the e-brake. Way before the first click. Any ideas? I bought a D/R 5mt for my 1990 loyale wagon. Is there anything easy I should do to it before I install it. Like seals or o-rings or anything like that? What about on the rear of the engine after I take the stock S/R tranny out?
  12. These are holding up pretty well. They look really good. Im glad I jumped on it before the price changes. Sorry it took so long to ship them back, I was enjoying my spring break and forgot about them until you sent me the PM. I hope my 6" lift is coming along nicely!
  13. But not having a dash should make the wiring for the ej swap a lot easier I would think.
  14. Yeah I kept thinking that it was a bad idea because I like to use it to play in the snow. Oh well. I'll just wear a coat.
  15. Completely removed the dash and heater. All i have left is the instrument cluster, steering wheel, shifter, pedals, the outside air vent and a crap load of wires. I wish I knew which wires I am not using because I would strip them out. What can I do with all of the wires to keep them up out of the way? I was thinking of running a piece of pipe and cutting it down one side then stuffing the wires inside to keep them from getting crushed, pulled on, beer spilled on them.
  16. The dry ice worked fantabulously. 50 lbs was way too much. But that just means I had some left over for dry ice bombs!
  17. i just thought expanding the asphalt with the heat gun and then contracting it really suddenly with the dry ice would break it loose easier.
  18. I am building an all out mud rig and I want it as light as possible
  19. I'm gonna remove the sound deadening material with dry ice and I have a few questions. How much am I gonna need to break up the deadener in a 1990 Loyale wagon. I have to go 70 miles to get dry ice so I would rather error on the high side. I'm thinking I'll get it in pellets and spread it all out on the floor and start whacking the floor with a rubber mallet. Would it be better to heat the sound deadener up with a heat gun before I put the dry ice down to help it pop up easier?
  20. Today I welded up the rearend and fixed the timing issue. The car is so much faster now than it ever was even when it had the stock size tires on it. I'm excited!
  21. Drivers side cam timing was a few teeth off. I hope fixing that fixes it!
  22. dad says my hubs came in today! I am gonna try to fit the 27.2" tractor tires without a lift kit probably friday. No front fenders should help but wish me luck and dry weather
