I would do an EJ swap into it simply because EJ's are so much less maintenance and I know folks who could actually wire it up properly... But it just wont fit with this suspension/chassis/transmission.

Is this the dash on the car you are talking about? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=17337&cat=500&ppuser=128 That dash is sooo much better than the one I have... Can't tell how good of condition it is though, but its definatly something I could work with more than the one I have.

Weber on the 1600.
What about a cam-ed EA71 with the 32/36, how much tuning/re-jeting would that require and could it improve the top-end performance? And which 32/36, the water, manual or electric choke? How about using one on an EA61?

Thats what I figured Honestly, i'm holding off buying parts until I know exactly what you've got. Plus, I have LOTS of work to do with this car before I need to worry about getting replacement parts...

The only thing I found was that lense and the turn signal stalk which i'm not sure is the right one even... However, I did just find this... http://cgi.ebay.com/SUBARU-1000-FF1-FRONT-TURN-SIGNAL-LIGHT-RIGHT-SIDE-JDM_W0QQitemZ140138986580QQihZ004QQcategoryZ50142QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

$27 + $7 for a lense? Thats more than the original MSRP for it! (FYI, it shows that part number as still active). I cant find the other FF-1 stuff he has listed though...

Day 5: So today I didnt have much time to work, but I managed to get the rotten rear seats out and vacuum up back there... Didnt take much time or work, but it did give me a MUCH clearer idea of what i'm working with.. For reference, this car doesnt seem to have frame rails. And that black cover on the rear seat is the top of the gas tank. That rear strut-bar looking thing is basically just a seat brace. VERY different chassis from most modern cars. As you can see, the floor board definatly has to go. I'm not sure what to do about that yet, I need to get in contact with some sort of restoration shop in order to deal with the bodywork this car needs... Anyone have any local references in my area??? (Sacramento, CA) Anyway, heres the pics...

 Oh, and ill be posting more photos shortly... Did some work with the rear seat area, including removing the rear seats, the crappy rear carpet, and the seatbelts...

Day 4: Well I spent today cleaning up the engine bay and under the engine bay with water, simple green, and some brake cleaner... I also washed the car for the first time, and removed the "P.O.S." painted on the trunk. I lowered it onto all four wheels finally too... The fronts clear fine so far, but the rears once someone gets in the car hit the fenders... Anyway, heres some pics from today!

Woot!!! Those are still availible! All the other part numbers are showing "obsolete" but they are still valid... New valid part number for the boot: 731335000

Shouldnt be much of a problem, they are a pretty generic design. I found a recent photo of an FF-1 with the front shocks replaced. The rears shouldnt be difficult either, they might even be simular to other 70's model Subarus. What I'm REALLY concerned about replacing are all the completely worn out bushings that need replacing, and the ball joints on the tie rods...

Day 3 Alright, I had an hour or so with nothing to do so I lowered the back, adjusted the ride height so the wheels would fit in the back, and put the front wheels on... I decided to leave it up so I could take some photos and clean underneeth later. Ill take pics this weekend with it on the ground completely. So here are some good pics of the front suspension as it is, along with underneeth the front of the car. Its quite complicated compaired to Macphereson setups isnt it!

FYI, the rears are fitting with the ride height raised... Albiet the fenders will hit when the suspension is compressed. But theres a half inch to an inch of clearance for right now, so I have a rolling chassis without flat tires :-p And yes, theres not a lot of clearance with that rear trailing arm... I've got about 2/3'rds of an inch right now with the Pugs and the 205's. If I put on higher offset rims that would clear the fender, it would hit.

I'll have to double check, but theres quite a bit of clearance there. I'm pretty experience with squeezing rims/tires on with a minimum amount of space, so ill figure something out...
