removing a/c condensor **PICS ADDED**
I lucked out and found a junkyard motor without the A/C, so I took all the corresponding brackets required and used those. Yanked the rest of the A/C stuff out as well (it was non-functional)

EA-71 engine question
Oil pumps, water pumps, valve cover gaskets, engine headgaskets/other gaskets are still availible... Carb kits still availible as well, along with the corresponding gaskets. No clue about the transmission seals though...

Carpet Kit installed : 73 Splitgate :: PICTURES ADDED!
Is it just the front carpet, or the passanger carpet too? Cause my carpet is one big piece, and connects to the rear trunk/wagon area carpet via buttons and velcro... Does yours have that too? And what about the gas pedal, my gas pedal is riveted into the floor

Carpet Kit installed : 73 Splitgate :: PICTURES ADDED!
Thats what it sounds like... I want pics first to make sure my carpet is the same in my '78

Carpet Kit installed : 73 Splitgate :: PICTURES ADDED!
LOL! No, not shag 2.5RSMatt over on RS25.com had some thick black carpet installed in his RS... Significantly better quality and thickness/feel than the stock carpet (I saw it in person before he moved). That would look great in my project wagon!

Carpet Kit installed : 73 Splitgate :: PICTURES ADDED!

'07 Outback XT - Less hp, better mileage?
Kostamojen replied to dd-2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have two explainations for the change in mileage: 1) They added a smog pump to the 97 Legacy Turbos (outback included). This might not increase mileage, but it is a major change. 2) The SI-Drive. The SI drive in fuel-efficient mode gives you more MPG because it isnt putting out as much HP... Hense the difference.

1978 brat
I just checked my '78 service manual, but It doesnt seem to include brats It just says the 4 headlight grill was for "hardtops and 4WD"

Is it just me...
LOL! I used to be able to squeel one of the front tires on a turn from a stop with my '78... But that was with ************ty 165 series tires that werent in that great of shape... With my new 205 series tires, it NEVER squeels anymore and it can actually make hard turns without loosing traction much like my Impreza

why are offroad foresters so rare?
Now thats what im talkin about The VTD is pretty awesome for the loose stuff. It just needs a non-open front dif and it would rock. Anyway, autos were never standard on Foresters, its an option. 5mt's are standard. And you can get a 98 forester for ~6k now, possibly less if you find a deal or one with high mileage.

Carpet... or no Carpet? Tis the question.
Did some interior cleaning in the wagon today. The metal piece that holds down the trunk carpet was really rusty and was getting worked on (IE de-rusted) so I decided to take every interior bit off the back and clean out all the dirt and such... Found some interesting things under the rear seat Some pics: Everything removed v What it looks like without the rear seats and with the interior bits back in place minus the carpet, I thought about leaving it like this... v And here it is all back together again with the carpets all cleaned up and the seat folded down (I had no idea the bottom seat flipped up! I didnt realize it until I went to unbolt it and found hinges!) v I cant decide if I want to leave it carpet less or with carpets... You can see the carpet isnt 100%, but the rear trunk space has 0 rust (there was some rust under the rear seat, but I sanded it and painted it over today). I could leave the rear seat out, or leave it in, but I'm just not sure... I think ill decide how ill run it later on when its all finished with paint and such, it might look funky with a blue paint job and a tan metal trunk area... Oh, and one final pic, of me taking over the garage for the day

Subaru Rex - Parts Wanted
I dont think any US vendor has parts for a "rex'...

impreza's only....
If I was setting up an Impreza for off-road, i'd splurge and have a full-underbody armor plate a lot like the WRC cars made for the car... Thats really the only way to do this properly anyway

Pics of my new Brat
The interior looks in really good shape! That hood orniment is interesting, but it looks like you have some body work to do

Ya, dual range is the best total-off road option probably. Its probably the cheapest too. Theres also the JDM Type-R 5-speed with the DCCD center diff... Or an STI 6-speed of course with the DCCD. I'd love to get a cusco tarmac diff in my car, but holy cow its expensive! I have a friend with a 02 WRX auto with a tranny cooler and 2.5 shortblock swap... Makes for a rather good dirt road adventure car That pan could use some additional protection of course if you are doing more serious use with it.

Ya, thats the best option I think. Actually, the VTD 4EAT in the WRX and some of the newer Legacies is even better with a proper center diff... (I did some rough road driving with a Forester using the 4EAT, and throwing it into 1rst/2nd made all the difference) I'm not sure i'd want to burn up the clutch on a manual, that could get expensive... But there are more diff options for manuals. My trannsmission setup would probably be pretty good right now off-road (OBX Front Helical LSD, WRX rear LSD, 4.11 ratio RS tranny) minus the light weight flywheel/sticky clutch that doesnt like to go below 2000 rpms
