  1. been a super busy summer but slowing down I am up for meting and actually doing it if anyone is still interested
  2. 78 brat , ea81 with a dr 4 speed, dual exhaust, 6 lug conversion, 4 inch lift, new tires, paint, and bed liner, and it is a soft top. still have lots of work to do to make everything handle and stop rattling. I can't find new struts for this thing at all.
  3. I ran into the same problem but have not fixed it yet. for now I have a clunk when I turn from the double knuckle turning over
  4. pics should be attached to this one
  5. 78 brat. ea81 with 4speed d/r tranny, dual exhaust which is currently cut off a touch short. roll on bedliner and shiny new paint. 4" lift and different shocks in rear. has a custom soft top that also snaps on and is totally water tight. Still have some carb issues and motor needs some oil seals replaced. Also did the six lug conversion with 15 inch wheels and brand new 215 tires
  6. I am game for this. I also have two 1.6 motors that run and two four speed tranny's that I don't need if anyone in the area wants. I live in the CDA area
  7. is that the one that was for sale in spokane/coeur d'Alene if it is that used to see it all over. they drove it pretty hard but it looked cool
  8. here is my brat loaded down when I went camping over in montana. one of the scariest drives I have ever been on since the front end was so light it had delayed steering. I tried to make the picture larger but the quality was terrible
  9. okay I will try that, unfortunately I damaged a pair of $80 shocks trying to make them fit, and they didn't and now I can't return them.
  10. cut out the rubber in the bottom attachment? the part with the wings? I seen the pics of the upper mount you made but not the bottom if you did anything there
  11. 78 brat, stock 1.6 and a 4 speed, just put fresh paint and 4 inch lift on it. It has a removable soft top also. I have a 1.8 and a d/r 4 speed that will go in this spring. I sanded some cabinet doors for a friend to get the car. the lift is not on yet in these pics
  12. looks good man, I hate and love seeing builds like this. I only hate it because it took me almost three weeks just to build a lift for my old brat, and I had to make some pieces three times. nice work though
  13. just throwing this in the thread so someone doesnt make the same mistake I did, I have a 78 brat and the monroe shocks that were in this thread will not work on it because the lower portion is different. I am on my third set of shocks trying to find something to work. Once I actually find some the lift is complete.
  14. I finished the paint job on my 78 brat, put the roll on bed liner in yesterday and am making the last two pieces for my four inch lift today. hoping that by the end of the week I can have it on and get wheels and tires ordered. I will get some pics out soon, the paint turned out good for a rookie
  15. edited post. found what I needed and can't delete the thread
  16. I welded up a leak in my dual exhaust that was right in front of the glass pack. Did a horrible weld job but hey the bigger the glob the better the job. Also put some walmart high tech seat covers on. But I think my tranny is on its last leg.
  17. I am Calvin, I live in Hayden Idaho, I have a 78 brat that I traded some electrical work for the car from my old roommate who took a saw to the top of the roof and cut it out. I managed to weld in some support bars and clean it up, my mom does upholstery and made a one off snap on soft top that works awesome, I drive this thing all over and even load my dirtbikes and sometimes my 4-wheeler in it. I have been asking around for tips on building this car up and hopefully this summer I can get some work done on it:banana:
  18. I have a 78 brat and want to do motor tranny swap after a lift. would this be a good car to get to pull the motor and tranny from? it is a 1985 Subie RX turbo, 5 speed, HI/Low tranny let me know asap and maybe I can pick this car up cheap. I know the motor would probably be a major pain to get in but would it be worth it? I have no idea what kinda power it puts out.
  19. there is a really big crack in the upper portion of the dash which is really annoying. Glad you like the top, the color is not the best but it is awesome waterproof fabric and I was thinking about painting it with fabric paint. I still have some finish work to do to pin up the headliner to the bars I welded in around the top.
  20. Well it has a removable soft top but is not a true convertible in the sense that the back window and everything is still there but you can stand up and drive around, and it feels like your driving a go cart when i take the doors off and have the top off.
  21. sorry about the caps being on. So I should stay with the stock motor? it already seems like i have no power and I imagine it will be even worse if I lift it.
  22. I HAVE A 78 BRAT WITH A CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE TOP AND ME AND MY MOM HAD PLANS OF LIFTING IT AND DOING SOME MOTOR MODS TO IT. SHE PASSED AWAY AND AFTER MAKING THE TOP FOR ME , I WANT TO FINISH THE REST OF IT. I NEED HELP ON HOW TO BUILD A LIFT FOR THIS AND ALSO WHAT MOTOR AND FIVE SPEED TRANNY TO PUT IN HERE. ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS. I WILL POST PICS OF EVERYTHING THAT IS DONE IF I GET SOME HELP ON WHAT I AM DOING. HELP!!!!! :drunk:
  23. I understand the problem ( I think that is) with the gen I brat but the biggest thing is that my brat is a custom convertible with a soft top that my mom made and she passed away and we had big plans for this brat and she made the top for me and it is up to me to do the rest so any help would be greatly appreciated. I could really use all the info on gen I brats and I am going to make this happen and the help from subaru gurus would make this much easier. Thanks to all who reply with something
