EA82Turbo

Hi all This is my first post on the new gen forum. Finally sold my Leone and got a Legacy. Ok, So I have brought a 1989 Legacy RS. It is a rally car with many handling mods but has a pretty standard engine. Currently the engine has a modified wrx RA computer running 13psi, wrx ra inlet manifold with 5th injector and 3" exhaust turbo back (no cats). It seems to go OK, should be around 300Hp. What mods should I look at next? Injectors? Fuel pump? Fuel rails? air-to-air intercooler? are these better than standard water-to-air? Pod (K&N) air-filter? BOV? Are there any decent improvements you can do to spark? Also, I was thinking of changing to air-to-air intercooler and fitting a later model WRX bonnet to scoop to blow onto intercooler. Is it worth it? What year WRX intercooler/scoop combo would be best? Can the air escape behind the intercooler? Thanks for all your help. Sorry about all the questions Cheers Hayden

Legacy needs fire ext, first aid kit, safety triangle, tow rope, bigger mud flaps and a tool kit. But basically ready to race. Yes. New owner is going to race the Leone powerhouse! hehe

The Leone is awesome, such a shame to sell. But don't have enough money to keep it. But got a good price NZ$4200, thats about US$3000. I will use the New Generation Forum, should be as helpful as Old Gen Forum. I have had the legacy sideways a couple of time but only on tramac and it is very stable! very very stable! Miles better than Leone! Legacy has so much torque! It currently has slicks on the back and can get the back out on tramac! Its going to be a handful on gravel! Cant wait! Hi, I have had to do a very emotional thing... I sold my Leone! My rally Leone has been awesome but lacks in power, not too bad upto 130Kph but from there to 180Kph is hard work. Also good suspension is hard to find. Oh and good LSDs. So I sold the Leone and brought a Legacy. Legacy has a WRX STI engine, with a MicroTech engine management system. Currently running about 250Hp at 6psi and has pre-programmed fuel maps upto 15psi at 330Hp. Tein adjustable platform suspension and LSD front, center and back. Should be a bit faster! Anyway here are some pics I take before the new owner picked up the Leone. P.S. You guys have been so great with helping to answer my Leone questions, thank you soo much! When did the diff ratios change? 3.7, 3.9 and 4.1 Which models of Leone or Legacy had these diff ratios? Hayden

OK. I'll try the sticker but I use this car as a rally car and it may be wore off. Are you sure the wheels we spin the same way if the back if lifted on the ground? Doesn't the diff only lock under load, otherwise it acts like a open-diff? Hayden

Yeah, your right I have already got a 5 speed in my Leone. But had no idea how it was done. Guess I know now. The non-turbo gearboxes would be leaker tho, right? Are the ratios the same?

Kool thread! I wanna put a 5 speed box in my 1982 Leone. Ok, read link from above post. But I think the stub axels have a different spline count. Mine is 23 and 5 speed box is 25... i think? How do you get round this problem? Can the stub axels be swapped? Thankx hayden

Finding good suspension, gearboxes and diffs seems to be the problem with these old girls. I have a 5 speed box with hi/lo and fwd. Currently single spinner diffs front and back. Front suspension is standard Leone 1983 wagon suspension and back suspension is L series read shock absorber with no spring. Abit rough but works OK? Any better ideas for suspension?

Also, what about the stub axles they will have the wrong spline count. My spline count is 23 and I think the legacy is 25. Can I change the stub axles? how is this done?

I have been told the Legacy VLSD I have is 4.11 ratio. To change the ratio back to 3.9 (or 3.7?) I can swap the crown and pinion right? but the stub axles will have the wrong spline count (mine is 23). Can I change the stub axles? how is this done?

Yep got some higher quality photos, I'll put them in my gallery. Paint is good aye? its 2005 wrx blue. Engine is a EA82 Turbo with a little work done. Running 10 psi with intercooler, oil cooler, 3 core radiator, custom extractors, removed power steering and air con, modified turbo for less lag (hits at about 2500rpm but flatens at about 6000rpm), external wastegate, 3" exhaust with no cat and high flow 3" exhaust, twin trumpet blow off value, K&N cone filter. Should have around 170hp, seems to be about as fast as other cars around this hp. But have beaten many 300hp + cars! Hoping to fit a Legacy rear Viscous LSD I have, but just doing some research to see if its possible. Current running two single spinner diffs, rank! not much good in a drift!

I beleive my old school leone is 3.7 ratio. is this correct? Can I change crown and pinon in legacy LSD to maintain 3.7 ratio???

Hi, I have an 1982 leone 5 speed manual 23 count splines. I have read about people swaping the inside gearing in a Leone RXII LSD to maintain correct ratio and using them in this model of leone. I have found a Legacy LSD, could the same be done with this? Thankx Hayden

Hello, Im thinking of doing the samew conversion. Was it difficult? Gearbox bolts line up? Can use standard RS loom? Also thinking of swap to WRX close ratio gearbox. Do WRX gearboxes fit? Gearbox width the same? spline count to axle the same? EG: can use legacy axles?

Gotta be faster than the Leone anyways!!! What are the ratios like in a 1990 Legacy RS 5 speed. EG: top speed in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th? Cheers Hayden

Hello, First post in the 'New Generation of Subarus' forum. I have a 1982 Leone RX Turbo Rally car at the moment but finding parts is begining to be a problem. I am thinking of building a 1990 Legacy RS rally car. Basically I want an affordable car I can have fun in without having problems finding parts. My question is on parts. Are Legacy 4wd turbo and 4wd non-turbo drivetrain parts the same? as this would make finding parts very easy. Are LSD easy available for Legacys or would you use impressa parts? Any recommended changes to a Legacy to make a good rally car? Thank you for help! Regards Hayden

Their seems to be to different axles diameters. Mine is around 26mm but their is another around 20mm. Are the wider axles from 4wd, manual or turbo models?
