  1. Hi, Had a big crash in my Leone and having problems finding parts. Need to know what model/series this car is? EG: L series??? Car is an 1982 Leone 4x4 turbo. Have attached picture. Hardnest part to find is the axel shaft. Managed to snap mine in half. CVs are easy to find. Seems to be a funny shaft. Its about 450mm long, 210mm between small end of CV boot, 26mm wide and has 23 count spline at each end. CV at gearbox end has 23 count spline and CV at hub end has 30 count spline with 58mm seal size. Gearbox is hi/lo 4wd and 2wd selectable, 5 speed originally attached to an ea81T but now attached to ea82T. I'm not sure which parts are standard on this car. If any of these measurements make since please let me know which model/series my car is and which model/series the axel shaft I require comes from? These cars are getting old!!! very hard to get parts from!!! Better drive carefully in the future. Thank you for your help.
  2. Thanks for your help. I'll have a look around NZ.
  3. Hi, Have 1982 Leone 4 door sedan and need new front axels and suspension arms. Would these parts from a subaru brat ute fit in my car?? link to subaru ute. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Other/auction-32486734.htm Please let me know? Hayden
  4. Hi, I have a 1982 Leone as a rally car with an EA82T engine. The suspension is really bad!!! I need something better be feel that other Leone suspension would be just as bad. Currenlty I have normal struts (spelling???) with coil overs and better springs. The shock absorbers are the real problem. Can a new shock absorbers be fitted to these struts? Could Legacy or Impressa suspension be fitted to a old school 1982 Leone? Could I modify the current suspesion to be better? What would you recommend? Thanks for your help. Hayden
  5. Yeah mate that would be good! Do you still have my number? If it works out that the car is too broken to fix and might build a Legacy RS rally car. Should be able to pick one up cheap, fit a rollcage and move the safety gear from Leone. If you know of any cheap Legacy RSs please also let me know.
  6. Thankx for everyones comments. Trust me it wasn't nice in the car. I have gotta be crazy to drive so fast without all the safety gear!!! Not sure how rally events are organised in the US but in NZ anyone with a certified car and rally drivers licence can enter. Not really a professinal sport here, a couple of people get paid but the rest of us are just very poor!! The good news from this event is the one run I finished (was a hillclimb not rally) I management to bet a Ford Excort BDA (300Bhp), 4 x Mitz Evos (300ish Hp), 1x WRX STI RA ($150,000 spend on car about 400Bhp), 1x Nissan Pulsar GTI-RB (300ish Hp), plus lotsa other average cars. By the end of the day a couple of these car had past me, but still finished 11th overall. Leone was flying!!! Shame it flew off a hill on the 2nd run!
  7. Not sure if it is repairable. Back of the car seems fine. Front is bad, suspension arms, steering and axles are all bent and twisted. Hopefully the chassis is OK. Need to find a donor Leone in the same shape if possible. Please let me know if know of any in the south island of NZ? Wont be racing for a while! Had hoped to do the Nelson and CHCH rallies.
  8. Too fast and off the road. Was a rally event, so nothing illegal. No one was hurt. Thank god for roll cages, racing seats and 5 point harnesses! Got a video camera in the car as well. Footage is pretty scary! Got a big rebuild ahead. (Hope the pictures are attached, never put pictures on before) Hayden
  9. OK, this is probably gunna sound like a stupid question. But, is an XT not a Leone? Is it a Subaru Vortex? XT in USA = Vortex in NZ? Need to know as want to find a spyder intake for my Leone. I think you call a Leone a Loyale, as well???
  10. Awesome intake. I gotta get one. Hope these are available in New Zealand???
  11. What is a spyder intake? Do they fit on EA82T and are they better than standard? What model of Subaru did they come off? Anyone got pics of one? Thankx Hayden
  12. I did some research on doing this swap and there was no way a EJ20 would fit in the 82 Leone 4 door. In the end I put in a EA82T, goes OK but doesn't even get close to the WRX or Legacy turbo. Is the EJ22 smaller than EJ20? Is the EJ22 single over head cam? Which car did the EJ22 come out in? Did you use standard loom and computer? Has anyone put a turbo on a EJ22?
  13. Hi, I put a ea82T in a EA81 car. Was alot of work, as engine bay was abit too small and had to merge two looms together in the right places. ea82T loom for engine and old loom for all other car electronics. I used a standard ea82T loom and computer. This loom required power to the fusible link box and starter, also had to provide power from the key. I think thats it, but it was a couple of months ago. Anyway motor is going prefect, great conversion!!! Only one problem. Boost creep!!! I want it to stay at 10lbs but just keeps climbing, think it gets to around 18-20lbs. Gunna need a new motor soon at this rate. I have changed to a VF15R exhaust housing (bigger than standard) and built a new exhaust from turbo back. 60mm off turbine, 30mm off wastegate both joining into 90mm pipie after about 1 meter. Also, disconnected turbo pressure controller. Might have to make the wastegate bigger??? If i can't stop it, il just put in bigger injectors, rising fuel pressure regulator and a 5th injector. Great times. Probably still only 170 Hp. Hayden
  14. Hello all As always, thank you to everyone that helps out. I have a stock inlet manifold on my ea82 turbo. I want bigger injectors and Throttle body. I am not sure of all the different leone models or even if they are available in New Zealand. But is there a different model of leone with a better inlet manifold, bigger injectors and throttle body that would fir on my ea82T? Is it possible to fit a ej20 inlet manifold on a ea82T? (probably a stupid question!) Could a ej20 inlet manifold be modified to fit a ea82T? Hayden
  15. Hi I had one of these engines for a while that had similar problems. Eventually I fixed it by setting the timing to about 22-25 advance. These engines don't have alot of torque and run badly without boost. Slow engine response from the pedal at low revs is probably normal, more advance on the timing will help. Could also try a better coil and opening the gap on the sparkplug. These changes help to ignite the fuel. I think the engine is getting more fuel than it can burn and choking on it. But i'm not even close to a mechanic so others may wish to comment. Cheers Hayden
  16. I would try the air flow sensor (air mass or what it has). swap from other leone. Hope this helps Hayden
  17. Hi, Engine, lume, ecu where for a crashed leone RX II which I removed myself, cost NZD$150 (US$90). I will post engine pics in my gallery soon. Keep an eye out. Hayden
  18. I just put an ea82T in the 1982 Leone. Problems were, engine is too wide for engine bay so had to modify left hand side chassis rail (grinding & welding), engine mounts are in different places (grinding & drilling cross member) & had to make new exhaust manifold to fit over cross member and miss oil feeder bolt to turbo (modified standard manifold grinding and welding). Also no room at front of motor to put radiator fan so had to fit fan to front of radiator. Otherwise it all went sweet as! Except having to fit a new computer and wiring lume, thats full on! But don't worry about not knowing how to weld, I can't very well. Normally loads of people available that can.
  19. I put a ea82T in my 1982 leone and its honks!!! no problem with torque! I don't use it for 4 wheel driving which could require more torque but seems fine to me. My is in a rally car and has enough torque to keep the wheels spinning in 3rd on a tight corner. Other people in my car club have leone RXs around the same year as yours (86-89). They have put EJ20 turbo motors and drvietrains without any problems. These years of leone RX seem to be an easy swap. EJ20 turbo of cause has alot more torque and horsepower. I recommend EJ20 turbo and drivetrain. But depends on how much money you want to spend. EA82T is enough power and cheap to buy.
  20. I just replaced my ea81 turbo with a ea82 turbo, because of problems finding parts for the ea81T. The conversion was simple but time consuming. Took me about 3 months on and off. Engine was a little to large for the engine bay and had to modify the left hand side chassis rail, also exhaust manifold would not fit cause of cross member and oil feeder bolt to turbo so had to make a new exhaust manifold. I had planned to have problems with the new computer and wiring lume. but simply moved computer, wiring lume and engine in car as was in parts car and everything went 2nd time, 1st time I forgot to have power to the fuseable link box, hehe. I am running ea81 drivetrain but all seems to be going well so far. Have a rally in 2 weeks so we will see what happens then Good luck. P.S. ej20 is miles to big to fit in engine bay BUT nothing is impossible if you are willing to part with some $$$.
  21. That thing lots to be going hard!!!! What type of motor you got? Is it FT4WD LSD?
  22. I race my Leone in rally around New Zealand. WRXs and EVOs are quicker if driven right but I'm only about 30 seconds behind rally leaders over 10 kms (6 mile). Close enough to have a lot of fun. I have put a LSD rear diff in my car this year, I haven't raced yet but from the couple of little plays I have had i think it will make more improvements to my stages time than more power would. Good tyres make alot of difference too, save your money on crappy engine mods and buy good tyres.Rally is cool!
  23. I have: Leone FT4WD 5 speed tranny with 25 spine count 1982 Leone 2WD/4WD car with 23 spine count How can I fit this tranny in this car?
  24. Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 2002 WRX STI but don't wanna waste my money on the wrong year of WRX STI. These cars seem to change very quickly. I have read that the 2002 WRX STI was slower and heavier than earlier models WRX STIs. Is this correct? The really like the new WRX STIs, they look awesome but I haven't got enough money! so don't recommend them. Thanks for your help Hayden
