If I was to take an ea82 and put it on stationary mount.....
Ok, I forgot to say, this is a low budget operation. No money to spend on a play project.

I also know where there is an ea81 sitting on the ground, in a shop. Its a good runner too.

I havent got that far yet. I still dont know what I am going to use to create spark. I dont want bunches of wires hanging off. I would like a simple distributor/coil setup. Twill be gasoline. Mind you, this is all in my head now. Trying to get a feel for the way to go.

I dont suppose I could have a point ignition on this? Or a simple dist. setup? I couldnt run it as it is now, without gobs of wires hanging off it?

I currently have a military 3kw (more like 6kw realistically). It is a Chrysler boxer engine, 32 cu in. Pistons are the size of a shot glass I think. An ea82 sounds like a good project.

What would I need to have it run. I was thinking of getting a spare one and attatching it to a AC generator, or an irrigation pump. I guess my biggest question is regarding the ignition. I bet you need more than the disty and a few wires?? I ought to check where the peak torque is too to see whether or not it would work. I would think it would make a good stationary engine, unless someone can tell me why not.

ea82, looking for 'how-to'
Yes, complete but not foolish. No performance parts, etc. Basic, stock rebuild.

ea82, looking for 'how-to'
Righto, but it is going to be self explanatory or are there a lot of tricks and such I should know of before I start?

ea82, looking for 'how-to'
Anyone got a brief how-to rebuild one? I've done many engines, just no boxer engines. Wanting to see what is done differently. I dont need to do one now, but I probably will have to rebuild this one (1986) within the next 50 yrs.

'86 GL rear hatch gasket
Simple enough, thanks.

'86 GL rear hatch gasket
The big gasket that goes around where the rear hatch closes. They say its to keep weather and dust out. Would never know it on mine. The gasket must be 10' in length I bet. Know what I mean now?

I toasted my first (and possibly last) EA82T
I've got a whole replacement for you. Bad tranny and possible cracked frame. $500 is what the gal wants for it. Body is pretty nice shape from what I recall.

more manual tranny issues

more manual tranny issues
Not to hijack the thread, but this is a good read. I will do my '86 GL wagon today. As it stands now, being its cold out, you can start the car...with the clutch in, let the clutch out and it will about die, due to the thickness of the oil. This sounds like a good help. Car has 240K on it. Tranny syncros are a little bad going from 4th to 3rd. Curious to see how ugly the fluid will be once I get it cleaned out. I'm going to go the straight ATF route.

97 Legacy Transmission issue
opus replied to opus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSomething to think on. She just left for a month, then will be back in this country. You'd be old and grey before AAA would help you here. I dont know of an AAA place for 120 miles...but I may be wrong. If she decides to stay there for a longer time, it might be a good thing. I'll look into it... Thanks!

Holds how much gear oil? Time for a AT [oops, I DID put "AT" instead of ATF, my mistake] flushing I think.

97 Legacy Transmission issue
opus replied to opus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUpdate: Things seem to be shifting better. She says its doing quite well. She goes back in a few days and he will look at it one final time. I like this better than "needing" a new transmission.

97 Legacy Transmission issue
opus replied to opus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere's the deal..... Daughter went to the soobie shop and they drove it and looked at the fluid. He said it was kinda dirty, but nothing abnormal. They changed the fluid and said come back in a week. She drove it and it was still shifting about 3500 or so. She went back today, everything was the same, they changed the fluid again. He doesnt see anything that would indicate a major issue. Possibly a sticky valve or something in the tranny. He doesnt foresee a meltdown, but will be there to help if its needed. He told her to come back in a week and they can go on another drive and reassess things. The shop has been a great help to her, and seems to be plenty on the ball.

97 Legacy Transmission issue
opus replied to opus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAAA...no. What she is saying is that when she takes off when it is cold, it shifts higher than normal between 2nd and 3rd. I told her to take it somewhere and have them check the tranny fluid. She took it to Jiffy Lube and Subaru. Both of them said the transmission is bad....although it doesnt slip, etc. You saw the pics of the fluid, it looks fine. She says you can see small metal fines in it. I cant see them from here, or the picture. I think there is a small delay while shifting as well, if I recall correctly what the Subaru guy said. I told her to try shifting it manually, and that works better. I believe she started this all by saying when it is cold and she comes to a light, she has to put it in neutral because it idles high and feels like it wants to keep driving. Thats all I know...........

97 Legacy Transmission issue
opus replied to opus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe dealer tells her to buy a new car, it will be cheaper. Obviously, that isnt whats going to happen. Car had 150k on it, my mechanic changed the fluid...now I hear that was a bad thing to do...go figure. Its got 165k on it now and when it shifts cold between 2nd and 3rd it shifts at about 3000rpm. I am no help, I am 500 miles away. Suggestions anyone? Know of someone in Seattle that might take a look at it for her and offer ideas? Here are a few ppics she sent me: http://picasaweb.google.com/pmilne/Misc Thanks...........
