  1. Don't know about that particular car, but it should specify in your owner's manual.
  2. So I bought the Legacy today . It's in pretty good shape, got 163K+ on it and runs great. Just needs a new clutch. The guy said that the timing belt had been changed at around 160K... so I hope that's true. Would save me some money. Some questions about maintenance... on my previous wagon I always used Valvoline Maxlife + 1qt of Marvel. That seemed to work quite well, but I wasn't sure if I should use Marvel on this car? Any thoughts? And what about fuel? Used mid (93) in my turbo wagon, but wasn't sure if I should continue using it in this one... P.S.: Looks like it came with alloy wheels ...
  3. Sweet . Yeah, I just joined that forum too... I'd like to ask you though, do you know any good way of getting the tail light pigtails replaced in these? My sockets are good so I might have to just solder them, but I would love to just replace the harnesses back there. Seems to be a hard to find item though .
  4. Yes!! That's exactly the right one . I would love to buy this from you, so please let me know how much you'd like for it. Thanks for your help!
  5. That would be great. I was sure the one from gpilot was going to work, but it's got that extra metal fitting on it . So, uh yeah... I think I've been driving with this thing disconnected for a few year now!!!
  6. I don't suppose you got a spare one that matches my photos you'd be willing to part with?
  7. Thanks for clarifying! I have decided to purchase the Legacy, and put a down payment on it... So unless I get there and it turns out to be crap (which I have no reason to believe will be the case), I will be getting no later than a week from now. Planning on driving it home with a funky clutch... Wish me luck !
  8. Turbone, do you know how that part is supposed to be connected? I can get another valve (this one... http://www.borg1.com/pics/egr_solenoid.jpg) but it seems to be a little different. In fact, if anybody who's got an 87 GL-10 Turbo, or who's EGR-SV looks like mine, could take a photo that would be immensely helpful!
  9. Ah okay... yeah that color seems awfully comon on those . Sometimes I wonder if they did any others . Too bad it's not the color in your ava. That would be a hot green!!
  10. Turbone, I pulled that part today since I'm trying to replace it (gpilot might have one), and took these photos. So, just for reference... Again, I believe this should be the EGR Solenoid Valve... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=846576&postcount=48
  11. How about some pics of that Impreza? Is it really as green as your avatar??
  12. Holy oldies Datsunrides!!! You are my new best friend! You wanna know why? This picture is why ... So, uh... would love to pick your brain a little if you've done any work on those colts!
  13. Hey, there's an idea... I wouldn't have thought of that . How long will that last?
  14. It is all one piece actually... When I first bought the car year and years ago all it had was the downpipe! So the second cat and muffler all had to be added . EDIT: I bought a pair of gloves last week... got tired of tearing my hands up working on this stuff!
  15. Indeed... one of the first projects I was going to do was to put one in. Even bought one, but somehow I never got to it. Ugh... still feel bad about that .
  16. Will that still work even when the noise normally is only audible when the engine's warmed up? I'll give it a go though . I must say, however, that this current mechanic of mine is rather good. I don't mind verifying, but I do trust these guys...
  17. I just figured I could use a universal and have it put in place... guess not? So do you think I should be replacing the cat or would it be better to gut it, or replace it with a straight pipe altogether? And what would you be asking for one of those cats if I need one? Thanks again! Btw, getting this fixed should help a bit with the engine running right. I've noticed that since the rattle got really bad, it's affected the engine performance and timing on account of the knock sensor I guess...
  18. So... I've figure out the source of the rattle! Good news is it's not the turbo. Bad news it IS the cat in the downpipe! So uh... yeah. Now what? Well I found one item on ebay listed as a "Turbo, Front Cat." (LINK). Is this the right one? Looks like it might fit. Any other suggestions would be welcome . I suppose I could just gut it too .
  19. No worries . Thanks a lot! So I did get my car back and the news is as follows.. Apparently my steering rack is in not so great shape. It's leaking fluid and in need of replacement. Needs new rack and pinion... The knuckle is still got wear and some play in it, but isn't crucial. Much of the vibration seems to be coming from one of my rear tires apparently, which has got a chunk missing out of it! Didn't know that, but that's an easy fix. Axles and what not are in good shape, so I'll start with the tires and see how it goes from there. I think I'm still going get another knuckle maybe... and we'll see how how much the steering rack is going to cost.
  20. Where's the link? Well I guess that makes me fell a bit better, but I guess I'll have to wait and see that elusive link firs .
  21. The photo is taken from the back of the turbo intake duct. It was my understanding that the AAV is in the front of that duct, and has an electrical connector just like the CTS on top. If my understanding is correct, then the unit in the photo above, and according to my Haynes manual, is in fact the EGR solenoid valve. I haven't ever gotten a code regarding the AAV or the EGR-SV. I guess it must not matter much that the latter isn't connected. However, that valve does have two plastic connectors on it that are broken off, so I do believe that that's where they go. Otherwise, the metal line might be part of the fuel injection system in which case I would have fuel spraying on top of my engine . So that's obviously not it...
  22. Since we've already touched on this in this topic, I was hoping that someone here might know that this other mysterious little unit is right under the turbo intake duct (red arrow). The disconnected hose and the metal line (yellow arrows) both are supposed to hook up to this I think, but both plastic connections on the unit are broken. It has a couple of wires going to it on the left side that you can't see here. EDIT: Aha! Actually found info on this in the Haynes manual! That would be the EGR Solenoid Valve. Probably good to have that working maybe?
  23. Exactly, that's why I'm having it checked out again. Now, I must admit that I don't feel confident in changing my own axle. Is this something I could do without doing it wrong? Cause there's a whole bunch of parts that I need to remove first, right? A bit intimidating ... I don't have a torque wrench yet either, and been thinking of getting one. I saw a couple different kinds at the auto parts store, but I'm not sure if those are any good. Any torque wrenches you can recommend...? Again, I really appreciate your input. All of you guys have been great, and I'm glad to be learning a lot on the way. Thanks for being patient with me ...
