  1. So, according to the first article and the Zerex color chart, my 93 Legacy should be using the hybrid HOAT type of coolant?
  2. By the way, I just found an even better pinout for the 02 wrx unit! Someone on the NASIOC forums put this together, and did a great job too ... http://www.geocities.com/svxdc/WRX-pinout.htm EDIT: Incidentally, that guy also sells the harnesses for these units... http://www.geocities.com/svxdc/Ordering.htm
  3. So I'm really leaning towards getting the Exedy kit... just want to make sure it's the right one. The specs on it say "8-7/8" (225MM) X 1" X 24T SPLINE." It's the second part about 1" x 24t spline that I know nothing about. So I'm hoping one of you guys can confirm that this is indeed what I need...
  4. GD, you always have this way about making a hard job seem doable ... Now if I could get you to chime in on the kit I should buy that would be awesome! Again, I found two good deals linked above...
  5. Yeah, I don't think I'll do this one . Thanks for the tip on the clutch fork though. Haven't come across the LUK brand yet... but still would love to know about the two mentioned above... Trying to find out if the Exedy or Phoenix Friction kits are any good. I was hoping to find some info online about these brand and/or the various manufacturers, but so far I've turned up nothing. Only thing I keep getting is a bunch of auto parts sites that claim they have what you want in the search result until you actually go to the site :-\.
  6. Also, is doing this job on a Legacy L any easier... meaning should I consider doing this myself? Probably not but just thought I'd ask . EDIT: Actually found another kit, by Exedy, on Amazon for the lowest price yet... link. So what do you guys think, this Exedy kit or the Phoenix Friction one on eBay???
  7. Yes indeed. I should order more of those connectors and replace them on the fuel injectors... but meh .
  8. I got it installed yesterday, and fixed the electrical connector this morning. Seems to be working great and I think it also got rid of the slight fuel smell under the hood (which makes sense). Thank you very much for your help with all this Turbone! This thread is now officially declared "solved." New CTS and electrical connections for it and the AAV, plus replacing the broken EGR Solenoid Valve and its electrical connector has got the old wagon starting up like a champ every time. Just like it used to! Thanks to everyone else who helped me on this. You guys are great, and that's why this forum rocks!
  9. Thanks guys... I've heard good things about Exedy, but not any other brands. Good to know Valeo's decent too. Also didn't consider going through eBay. Good call . Edit: So here's a couple I found that have a good price but lack some info. First this one (link) just says it's "OEM Japanese," and then this one (link) which is "Phoenix Friction" but states it could be made by one of the other major manufacturers. Either one of these worth considering? The latter is cheaper, so as long as it's made well it would be a good deal...
  10. That would be nice... only thing is that they're not as popular down here for some reason. But hopefully I can at least cover the clutch repair on my newly acquired wagon with the sale .
  11. So I bought a 93 Legacy L wagon this weekend, and the main thing it needs is a new clutch. I have a friend who's more mechanically inclined than I am that I intend to ask if he's interested in helping me do this. If not then I'll just have it done at my regular mechanic. What I would like to know is (1) whether I should order the kit myself... from a place like www.rockauto.com or www.partsgeek.com perhaps. (2) What brand and price is recommended, since they seem to run anywhere from $160 to $250 (not counting the $400+ kits!). And (3) is the 8-7/8" kit the one I need? Thanks a ton in advance guys! This is now officially the newest car I have ever owned... lol .
  12. Hey Mugs, what's this "subie additive" you speak of? What does it do and where do you get it?
  13. lol... yeah, well put . I must say though, that http://www.bobistheoilguy.com site's pretty great!
  14. LOL... my bad... didn't realize this thread was that old. Sorry to dig it up, I just found it through a link in another thread somebody posted . Good read though!
  15. That Auto RX stuff look awesome! However, the actual link is http://www.auto-rx.com ... I might order me some of that!
  16. Soooooo.... I decided to slowly get ready to retire the old wagon . Ended up buying a 93 Legacy this weekend.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=849088#post849088 Maybe someone else will have the desire to keep the old gal running. I know she's still got it in her if all the other crap gets sorted out.
  17. So I went to install the unit today, and whattya know it's backwards! Lol... has the place for the bolt on the opposite side. Weird... but oh well. Because of this it wouldn't fit in the exact same spot, so I had to figure out another one close by to mount it to. Now I'm also trying to make sure I'm connecting the hoses right. You said that it had one hose which ran from it to a metal line above, so that should be simple enough. But to be sure, was it the fitting that sticks up which connected to the metal line, or the fitting that stick out horizontally? I'm assuming the former to be the case, and that the horizontal fitting connects to my other hose laying nearby... one which connects to a T that's plugged into the big plastic air intake. Now I just have to lengthen the electrical connector to reach and I should be good...
  18. No problem . I have this unit in my 87 wagon, but I just bought a 93 legacy. So I'll be wanting to do a swap, which I'm expecting to be a completely pain. I had to have the unit custom wired into my 87, so that's going to be tricky!
  19. Sure thing... and it just so happens I also have one of the wiring diagrams... (sorry the pics are low res though )
  20. Alright... here's some better pics ... And yes, you're right about oil . But I don't think I'll be using Marvel in this one. Though might not hurt putting it in on my next oil change just once. Probably could use that cleaning... we'll see. Thank you for the link though, it's pretty informative . Checked the deck, and I guess it's not actually wider as I had originally thought. So it might be pretty easy as long as I can make sense of the wiring . So yeah, it's a good car. Only things that could be better is (1) if it were 4WD, (2) if it didn't have that dent in the door, and (3) if it didn't have those stupid automatic seatbelts. Oh well, I guess if I really want I could change all of that, but I don't see myself putting in the 4WD parts . Probably will do something about the dent, and maybe change the seatbelts eventually .
  21. Are the harnesses also different, or did they use the same harness for most stereos?
  22. Yes, I did mean Marvel Mystery Oil. Many mechanics have recommended it as a regular additive for keeping old cars going long and strong. So like I said, the old turbo wagon seems to like it. But I guess I won't be need it for the Legacy then... So doing V-Maxlife is fine though? Edit: Oh, and I"m trying to figure out if the wrx DD size stereo can be fit into this? The size of the deck in the legacy seems awfully small, so might take some doing... I'll take some photos tomorrow, but until then you can see a low-res pic of it from its craigslist ad...
  23. Apologize for jumping into this thread, but will this DD unit also fit into a 93 Legacy? I just bought one (the Legacy that is), and would love to put something better in it too. Looks like a lot less space though...
