  1. My next door neighbor acquired it from a party that had two Justy's for sale @ 500 ea. He said he got it for agreeing to build them a shelf. Apparently my neighbor thought I've had too much free time on my hands? lol.
  2. I located pics on google by searching; "timing belt replacement 88 Subaru Justy"
  3. I removed the valve cover and TB cover. The timing belt is dead nuts on and the rockers all have valve lash at the top of the power stroke on each cylinder. I did a second dry compression test yesterday and got 25lbs on #1, 150lbs on #2 and 25lbs on #3. I can hear metallic clanking coming from the #3 end of the block so it looks the like the head going to have to come off. It starts and runs but smokes.
  4. Anyone out there have a tutorial video on a three cylinder Justy so I'll know what I'm doing when I attempt to remove the head? I'm a novice with the 3 cylinder engines.
  5. I've been driving this puppy with torque bind for ten years now and I've finally noticed bearing noise coming from the right rear. Problem is when I put it on a lift and check for any play there is none and the cv axle appears fine. The noise doesn't seem to get any worse even after rolling for the last 4000 miles. hmmm? Can a rear differential failure transfer noise to just one rear wheel?
  6. I bought some NGK BKR6EGP iridium spark plugs. Will those work well in my 30+ yr. old ej22? They all appear to be pre-gapped at .037 in.
  7. Got it all done. Timing belt was off one tooth on my first attempt, but got it perfect on the second. Runs just fine.
  8. I got the exact replacement bracket now. Fed-X delivered it today. That didn't take long at all. Now I just need to track down 14mm bolt for the tensioner pulley. Not looking forward to scouring the junkyards, but I must admit I kind of enjoy it .
  9. Yes it has the old style separate piston and I'm fairly confident it is still a non-interference 2.2 ? I never got any history on it from the yuppie couple who sold it to me back in 2012. Only 316K on it now. Still driving with torque bind too. quack.
  10. o.k. Thank you. The pic I was viewing on E-bay didn't have a side view and it looked like it had a shorter snout? Hopefully it was just an optical illusion?
  11. You sure? I'm about to spend 25 bucks for a used one. It's off a 1992. Aren't the snouts the pulley bolt screws in different lengths?
  12. I need to know if a 1992 tensioner pulley bracket will fit my 1996 2.2 engine. The bolt is broken off in the bracket on my 96 from a heli coil repair I did a couple years ago. Apparently I didn't drill it "perfectly straight on" for the heli coil, and the slight misalignment and vibration finally snapped the bolt. duh?
  13. o.k. thank you. Yes I had a feeling something was wonky when I noticed my new wheel bearing had ball bearings instead of roller bearings. Yup, I'm still working on my cognitive functions.
  14. I have a 3/4 inch socket w/ breaker bar and long pipe but the pic-n-pull yards over here always have the cars up in the air with no wheels on them.
  15. Both rigs have ABS. I'll probably just grab another knuckle with a bearing already in it and keep my fingers crossed. I better take a cordless impact to get the axle nut off eh?
  16. They are much the same as long as they both came with ABS then? The bearing noise may have been due to the installer? Guess I'll dismantle it to see what I did wrong? Thank you.
  17. Will there be any problems swapping the above into a 1996 Legacy LS wagon? I put a new RF wheel bearing and hub in a LS wagon and it's making that proverbial grinding sound again. I noticed the new wheel bearing I bought consisted of ball bearings instead of roller bearings. yup. cheapo's from the big"E". my bad.
  18. I have never heard of needing a longer TB after PO upgraded to a new style tensioner on a 1996 2.2 ?
  19. Oh well I wasn't paying attention last week when I ordered front 277mm rotors for my 90 legacy wagon from E-bay. I sure don't need to drink to get stupid. ha ha. I'm pretty sure they will fit the 04 Forester I sold to a friend. They didn't come with the ceramic pads their ad claimed would arrive with em. I initiated a return, but I think I'll just bag it.
  20. I was focused on a brake disc diameter question. Not "wheel size". Am I missing something here ? Brain cells perhaps? Bwahaha!
  21. I think they only came from the factory with 10 inch diameter rotors? front "260mm" - rear "266mm". I'm just not completely certain? I have a set of front slotted and drilled rotors that are 11 inch dia. (277mm) and not compatible.
  22. Did any 90-94 Legacy wagons come with OEM 10.9" (277mm) front rotors?
