  1. BECAUSE THE EXHAUST IS ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE HEAD ON THE DUAL PORT AND THE EXHAUST VALVES ARE IN THE CENTER ON THE HEADS WITH THE OUTLET AT THE BOTTOM YOU WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE THE CAM AS THE LOBS WILL BE IN A DIFFERENT PLACE AS THE FIRING OF THE MOTORS ARE NOT THE SAME.
  2. I just answered some of your questions on the previous page. I dont think you can put a ea63 head on a ea71 motor if that is what you are asking as the exhaust valves are in a diffrent place. The rattle of the sleeves you talked about is due to the wear of the copper rings at the bottom of the sleeves which I have mentioned on the previous page to your request on any info on the ea63 engine.By the way I have a spare motor out of a GFT. The only diference is it didnt have the hot cam.I think the ea71 is slightly wider then the ea63 by about 20mm (3/4").
  3. Hi moosens one of the most important parts when reconditioning the motor is the copper rings which go under the wet sleeve. These rings are very important and must be replaced or the motor will keep blowing head gaskets. I was able to get everything except valves and the copper rings. I got a set from the girl I told you about with all the old parts.I may be able to get you a set if you can't get any yourself. The valves had to be machined from different valves to fit the gsr.Does your car have the stage one cam. I know a real good machanic who worked on our type of cars in the seventies and he is still working for subaru. He put our motor together as he is one of only a hand full left who know anything about them. If I find out more I will let you know.
  4. They don't have email you have to write to them at there head office in Japan. Those photos must turn heads over there I'm sure.
  5. You will have to try and send your pictures to FHI. They have to see them they are excellant.
  6. Oz was about the same time as NZ. I think we started getting subs about 69. There where a few FF1s getting around in the very early 70s. Subaru has a very strong hold here and very loyal owners. Good to see a forum for the earlier models. Had to get a new steering rack for the GSR ($125.00nz)
  7. Now thats awsome. I am going to go to bed crying now. If I had that car I would have the full model range for the 1400s. That is one in a million and I envy the person who gets it.
  8. Well you have my support. As you know I have two gen1 subies and I will collect and restore them as I find them. After all these cars the the backbone of the models that followed and shouldnt be forgotten or filed away. All the young new members need to know and see these early models as they are awesome. They are my first choice as well but I love all subarus. I am very one eyed!!! Kevin
  9. Yeh I have some pictures in my photo gallery go there. By the way I dont seem to be able to load photos is this because my account is full and if so how do I get more space.
  10. Having trouble putting photos on. There should have been photos in the first post. Will try again.
  11. This is my next project which I hope to have completed by the end of the year. The interior is in very good condition and the back seat and the whole rear of the interior is in showroom condition. The car will be for my daughter when it is done. Not many of these left over here.
  12. No worries . The guy in Cromwell who owns a wrecking yard for old subies has the correct specs for the hotted up GSR and has original brochures for them as well. Keep by your phone (ring ring)
  13. You can see the GSR in the photo gallery but I will send some with it lowered when my son brings it back home. Paul that photo is exactly how the GSR looked before we did it up. Same color, strips and everything. Yes we do have a 74 GSR still haven't picked it up yet. Am taking some photos of the DL1400 tommorrow and with post them in the weekend.
  14. Thanks for the comment .Feeling better. But I wouldnt use a shotgun. I have a SKS semi auto , much more fun.
  15. This old sub is different just ask moosens and I have already been offered more than it owes me but I will never sell it because it is one of the rearest you could find. I have a75 DL1400 to restore yet and will post photos of it soon. Just dont under stand some peoples mentality when they damage someones pride and joy for no reason.
  16. Well after all the time and money we have spent on the GSR you wonder if it is worth it when some loser runs there key down the side. My son who is at uni went up to his flat(apartment) for no more than 5min and when he came back down the GSR had been keyed. He is now bringing the car home for safe keeping but he shouldn't have to. If the person got caught they would only get a slap on the hand by the police. Very p***ed off.
  17. Thanks for your help. I am now back on thanks to you.
  18. Well the motor has just been fully reconditioned and hasn't done to many miles to have to much carbon build up. Thanks anyway for your input. Problem still not solved. HELP!!!!!!
  19. [ will check that but don't think thats the problem. thanks anywayQUOTE=Cougar]You may have an intake manifold leak.
  20. Merry Xmas and a happy new year to everyone. Well we have a we prob with the gsr. It was going magic then a reaccuring problem came back. It fixed itself last time but has us stumped as to what it is. The car has a slight missfire or backfire and surges at low revs. And it has a pre-ignition problem when you turn it off. We think it is the following combined (timing, fuel mixture,or a worn distributor,)Does anyone have any other ideas as to what it might be. Thanks Kevin
  21. My son broke the rear tail light of my brat. I rang the local Subaru dealer and to my amazement can still buy the lens new. Are they still available in the states. They cost $38nz.
  22. Well you do have alot of work to do on your project car. But I don't like seeing old subarus dying and will always do my best to help keep them going. It is hard when there are parts in different countries and to import them into your country at a resonable price. You will have a very rare car when it is finished and I wish you all the best and will do what I can from the bottom of the world to help. Regards Kevin
  23. Yeh and I just found out from the owner that it still had the original plastic on the seats up until two years ago.
  24. Well I have offered $4000nz for the GFT and the owner has accepted my offer. All I have to do now is find the money and fly 2000kms to pick it up and drive it home.
