LPG frankenmotor build
Are you talking gas/LPG, LPG/CNG, or what? I've considered CNG as well, but apparently it's even harder to obtain here than LPG. Additionally, the price of LPG increased drastically this past year. Apparently it's close to the price of gasoline now, so that mostly defeats the purpose of the conversion. : /

Solenoid brake line lock traction control
Best combination of ideas would be to have a remote line locker for each wheel, and a row of corresponding switches on the dash. However, instead of locking the brakes ON, you lock the opposite ones OFF, so that then you use your existing brake pedal to give it just as much grab as you need.

Why can't you just drill it out with another bit?

Also, I've been researching those Toyota 4runner front struts, and found a company called SenSen that makes a good quality part for a fraction of the price. Right now, you can get a PAIR of them for $70 shipped! From what I've researched on SenSen and their APX line of performance suspension, everyone who has installed them was skeptical at first because of the insanely low price, but after using them for a few months, they said they handled just as good as KYB shocks, and seemed to be well built. Also, these have a lifetime warranty, which may come in handy for folks like us who will probably abuse them more than your average driver.

Found an even BETTER deal on the CC248 springs: $36.24 shipped! And I confirmed with the seller that there are a pair of springs in the package, not just one. And he also has a bunch in stock, enough for most of us here.

LPG frankenmotor build
I think it will always boil down to the convenience issue. Dunno what it's like over there, but here only a handful of gas stations in town also pump LPG, and most of them won't let you do it at night. Then, if you're out in the middle of nowhere and need fuel, it's very unlikely to find a small fuel station that sells it. Or if you run out of fuel on a trail or something, if someone comes along with a gas can, doesn't do you much good. But for something that's a daily driver and never leaves town, would be a great idea. I've been wanting to do an LPG or biodiesel conversion to something, just haven't found the right vehicle.

suspension questions
I saw you mentioned it but hadn't tried it. Like I said, I wanna get a hold of them to see how easy they will mount up, and how well they rest on the strut. If that goes well, they they should be a great replacement. We shall find out!

Heh, I dug up a bunch of good info on possible alternatives for front springs, but was posting it in the wrong thread. Sooooooo, here's what I've found: 2000 Ford Crown Victoria, rear coil springs Coil spring inner diameter 4.54" Spring Rate 163, wire diameter .593" Free height 15.25" Load height 11.5" Only problem is that it has those pigtail ends. However, once you saw those off, you're gonna have a nice variable rate spring that might be just the right height. And since Crown Vics are cop cars, we might be able to find a lot of these used. ======================================= 1993 Dodge Intrepid Spring ID: 4.663" Free height: 14" Load height: 12" Spring rate: 135 Wire diameter: .562 Not much load rate, but with some trimming it may increase. However, this ain't a variable rate spring, so this might serve as a decent OEM replacement. ======================================= However, the next gen Intrepid, 1998-2004, might work very well. Spring ID: 4.75" Free Height: 12.9" Load height: 10" Load: 420 Spring Rate: 145 Wire diameter: .531" No pigtail ends, either. Just one tangential end, one square. These might just be perfect. And rather than going to the junkyard, scraping my knuckles and sweating like crazy to get these off, only to be charged a ton for them anyway, I'm just going to go buy these from my parts store, see how they fit, then return them if they don't.

You know what's really damn funny? I've been posting in the wrong thread for the last few posts. I've been looking for what would work for front springs, as apparently the Ford Tempo springs don't actually fit. xD

So I might have found a candidate. I can't find a nice list of springs, so I'm just going through Napa's website, entering random cars, checking their spring specs. Behold: 2000 Ford Crown Victoria, rear coil springs Coil spring inner diameter 4.54" Spring Rate 163, wire diameter .593" Free height 15.25" Load height 11.5" Only problem is that it has those pigtail ends. Also, that's what she said.

They might be. I've got an unmounted front strut here in my lap, and the maximum outer diameter it could fit is exactly 5.5 inches. Considering the coil wire diameters is about half an inch, I figure we're looking at a minimum ID of 4.5, maximum ID of maybe 4.8 inch. Also, looking at the contact surface on the strut, any less than 4.5 inches would be too small and flop around. Considering the Tempo front springs are only 4.375 ID, no wonder people found them to be too small.

Does anyone have the specs for the original EA82 front springs? I'm guessing they're about 4.5 to 4.75 inches inner diameter, 10 or 11 inches in length unsprung.

What cars use the KYB 343056 rear shock?
'87 GLW 4x4. Not surprising, as we all know the horrors of parts store computers and their ability to still list wrong parts for cars 30 years later.

What cars use the KYB 343056 rear shock?
That's what I figured, the place sold him the correct front struts, but EA81 rear shocks. Perhaps I should call and b!tch them out, several years and several owners later. In any case, if anyone wants them, I'll make ya a killer deal. Otherwise, I may just fab some brackets and install them along side my existing suspension, just for some extra shock absorption when I'm launching the thing into the air.

Pick n Pull pricing: rear suspension tube..
Ah gotcha. Grew up on the coast in California, so I know how it goes. But ever since I moved back to Montana, it's nearly a forgotten memory. Thankfully, they don't salt the roads here, so my only rust is the cancer in my fenders, nothing important. So you're assuming that the part at the junkyard is less rusted out than yours. Is your so far gone that you can't just have the bad parts cleaned and welded over?

What cars use the KYB 343056 rear shock?
When I bought my GLW, the previous owner gave me a set of KYB GR-2 struts and shocks that he never got around to installing. When I opened them, the two rear shocks don't fit at all. They have no perch for springs, and the mount on the one end doesn't fit anywhere. So I thought these might be for the FWD GL, but the last FWD GL I saw had the exact same rear spring/shock as my 4x4 GL. The model number on these guys is KYB 343056. I've searched for it online, and according to all the sites I've found, it is completely compatible with my car. What a load of crap. I'd like to sell these, but first I need to know what cars they DO fit. Here's a picture:

Just curious, why do you want the whole thing? Did you high-center and smash it?

suspension questions
Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I've been researching front springs lately. From what I've found, aside from being progressive rate, all the various Tempo front springs are the same spring rate as a stock EA82, around 146. Also, the earlier Tempos had even less of a spring rate, like around 115. For those that suspect that perhaps Jeszek has rear Tempo springs, those too only have a 115 spring rate. But it is curious that his fit without any modification, but he still saw improved stiffness, lift, which indicates that these definitely were not off of ANY Tempo. Makes you wonder what the hell they came off of. However, if you have to cut the Tempo springs to fit, then that will increase their spring rate. To what, I do not know, one would have to take them in to get tested. But either way, it sounds like a lot of trouble to go to for little gain. So the search continues for a better candidate that hopefully doesn't need any cutting or modification. We should be concentrating on sports cars with large aftermarket followings, so that we can get them cheaply off of eBay, and have lots of variety with rates and lengths. So has any investigating using newer Subaru springs?

Well, Oreilly and Autozone only carry the 248 in stock. Napa appears to have both, not Moog but their Napa brand. However the ratings are different. Everything being equal again, the automatic springs are Design Load of 524, and the manual's are Design Load 484. But the rest of the specs are identical, including free height, load height, number of coils, and coil diameter. *shrug* auto manual

I'm curious as to how they visually compare. Next time I'm at my parts store, I'll have them pull botht the 246 and 248 so I can see them. They love me at the parts store.

No kidding, especially when the spring rate on both are 279. But at the very least, the smaller install height is probably most important if they're a biatch to get on the strut.

Was lookin at the front springs available for that model of Accord, they list CC246 for the manual trans car, and CC248 for the auto. Per Moog's specs, the CC246 is 11.00 install height, and 484 load, whereas CC248 is 9.00 install height and 1100 load. So if you're headed out to the junkyard like I'm about to, try and find the springs off an automatic! Edit: On second thought, my friend eBay says I can get a new pair of these CC248 Moog springs for $60 shipped. Edit 2: The auction was through JCWhitney. I checked their main site, and right now the same pair of springs is $49 with free shipping! Can't beat $25 springs! Edit 3: Cheapest I can find the KYB KG9025 shocks is on Amazon for $61 each with free shipping. However, JCWhitney is the second cheapest at $65 each with free shipping. So a pair of new rear shocks and struts is only $180.
