  1. Sorry to revive an old thread, but was researching values for convertibles (renewing my insurance) and just caught this. That's a beauty of a convertible! Congrats on the find! That makes what? Five of us on the board with convertibles? Off the top of my head: you, me, Andrew (WagonsOnly), Richie, and I think there's a guy who picked up a white one down south last year as well. Those plus the gold one and the 4wd one from Tahoe makes a total of seven so far, and I'm probably leaving someone out. Maybe we should do a roll-call and get a true headcount?Glad they're being saved. Roll bar is a new twist, hadn't seen any others from Matrix3 with those - makes yours extra special! And the black looks really cool! There was a black one selling in the Old Car Trader somewhere in Southern Ontario (Windsor/London I think). I don't think it's the one you've got, 'cause I don't recall it having a roll bar. At the time they were asking $5K, be cool to find out where that one landed. --wd
  2. Hi Hatchsub, Try doing a search on eBay for 'Leone GFT'. There's an outfit with an eBay store out of Brisbane, Australia that has a couple of aftermarket EA81 coupe gaskets. The car was marketed down there as the Leone GFT, hence the search. The eBay store is: MAZDA PHILS ROTARY PRODUCTS RUBBER. (Sorry, not yelling, the all-caps is their store's name:)). I had to have the windshield replaced on the car to safety it in Canada when I brought it up here in 2006, but the only gaskets available were aftermarket brat/wagon/hatch gaskets that fit the narrower window trim used on those cars. I had one of those gaskets installed (not like I had a choice, if I wanted to drive the car), but it just didn't look right and I couldn't reinstall the original wide coupe windshield trim. Found this listing on eBay last spring, and ordered two of these gaskets. Shipping was quick, and they fit the coupe's wide stainless steel windshield trim. The fit was perfect, and the car looks great with the original trim back in place. Good luck, and let us know how it works out for you. --wd
  3. Hi Andrew, do you still have the dashboard from the 83 coupe? I finally managed to score the right windshield gasket (from Australia of all places), so it'd be a good time to swap the dash while the windshield is out..

  4. I'd love a copy of that! Won't change how I drive the GL - i.e. passing only on downhill grades - but it'd be useful as a benchmark.. wolfdog @ storm. ca Thanks!! --wd
  5. Hi Connie, sounds like a major undertaking. Safe to assume you're planning to re-use the original rubber, esp. for the windshield? Any tips you could share? I'm following up with a manufacturer about the possibility of having new windshield weatherstrip produced, but it's not looking hopeful so looks like I may be trying to rescue some from a donor. The emblems look great, and are the perfect final touch. Been holding a pair I got up here in Canada from the dealer, don't dare unwrap them until the bodywork is good to go on the convertible - too afraid the drool might affect how they adhere . That said, I'm waaaay behind you in the restoration process - paint will likely be next fall earliest. Finally got my mitts on a Matrix3 convertible owner's manual, and trying to sort out the electrics for the power top. Someone'd already made a wild spaghetti of the original wiring.:-\ Best of luck with your project! --wd
  6. How's the rubber windshield gasket looking? And is this wide or narrow steel trim around the window? If it's anywhere half decent and wide trim, I sure could use it. You'd likely need some kerosene to soften the seal for easy removal - I could cover the cost of that as well if need be. Heck, if any of the rubber is any good I'd be interested. Shoot me an email and let me know. wolfdog@storm.ca --wd
  7. Yep, at least two that were dealer-offered mods on new vehicles. There was one other, but suspect that it was definitely post-market. The main difference being that the dealer-sanctioned ones were definitely the professional end, mostly installing power tops and altering the back seat and rear deck to allow the top to retract fully below the window-line. The one pictured is a Matrix3 (long before the movie made it a cool name) conversion, originally sold from dealership in Louisianna. The post-market company operated out of Boston, and I have one of thiers as a parts donor. The donor car is not roadworthy, and the conversion was definitely on the less-professional side - the top retracted to sit above the back deck a-la old-style VW Beetle Cabriolet, and was manual rather than power. Speaking of power, if anyone knows where I can get my paws on a wiring diagram for the M3, I'd love to get that top working. All the bits appear to be there, but someone's been at it with wire snips and electrical tape, so I don't really trust what's there. 'Sides, the power top ain't working and it's a bit of a hassle to raise/lower it, what with having to climb into the rear seat for leverage.. So, Paul, I hear you have a borderline coupe? If you ever decide to part it out, I'd be mighty interested in the weatherstrip for the quarter windows and windshield.. Cheers, --wd
  8. Yep, it's the one from Ebay from last summer. Been slowly working on it, and driving it everywhere last fall and this spring/summer. Still purrs beautifully, but had to lose the cracked windshield to pass safety and get it plated - hence the wrong windshield gasket in it now holding the new windshield in. Aching to get my paws on a proper coupe gasket so I can put the stainless steel trim back in.. --wd
  9. OK, so I'm a bit late posting.. Finally recovered the pics from the memory card and uploaded them to my gallery: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=5176 Jack, I'm still hunting replacement for the windshield gasket - any old EA81 coupes in the yards down your way? --wd
  10. Strangely enough, developed the exact same symptoms within days of installing a new alternator on the convertible, though not having the battery draining issue. Looks like that one will have to go back! --wd
  11. If you're looking for new old stock (NOT), you could try your local Subaru dealer. Managed to get my mits on new emblems/badges for my 83 GL, including the star emblem that went beneath the rear-most windows on the early 80s coupes; they were a bit pricey, but hey - they were a gift and I wasn't paying.. Another place you might want to try is a wrecker, especially if you can find one that specializes in Subarus. Up here in Canada I've dealt with Aldergrove Auto Wreckers, near Vancouver, BC. They have quite a large stock of 80s Subarus and will ship. http://recycler.car-part.com/AldergroveAuto/ Good luck! --wd
  12. Woohoo!! Thanks for letting me know, Turbone - don't know how I missed that the first time around! --wd
  13. Way to go, Paul! Put me down for a set of front door seals and two windshield gaskets, so long as they're the ones that take the wide trim. (Heck, for the windshield gaskets if they're under $50 each I'll even go for three! - Check the photos here to see what I'm after: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=5176 Subaru Part #765061030) --wd
  14. OK, still looking for the windshield moulding/weatherstrip/gasket. Part number is 765061030. No luck at Precision Replacement Parts, though Tom Miller there was very helpful in researching (www.prp.com for anyone looking for the regular gasket that takes the embedded narrow chrome trim - Subaru part 765061000, PRP catalogue WCR417). So, seems my options are: 1 - Find a wreck with an intact windshield gasket that can be removed without tearing/cracking (not an easy task, and there aren't any wreckers here in Ontario that still have early 80's Subarus in the yard); anyone had any luck doing this? 2 - Cross my fingers and hope that someone on the board is hoarding one they would be willing to part with (pleasepleaseplease), either NOS or used/reuseable; maybe one of you guys over in Europe/Australia might know of a dealer with NOS? 3 - try to find a custom rubber company that will do a small run at a reasonable rate and arrange a group buy (hard to believe I might be the only person looking for this!). I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with info on any of the above. --wd
  15. Hey Andrew, that'd be great. I'm thinking that since I'm likely to have to take the windows off to get at the full trim ('cause the rubber's been sliced off right up to the trim), it might just be easier to replace the glass altogether. That, and it'd give me spare glass and stay original.. <G> Let me know how much you want for 'em (shipping, too), and I'll PayPal to ya. Cheers! --wd
