  1. I'm going to attempt to PB blast it, take the other bolt out and move the strut away and try to use vice grip to get the broke bolt out, wire brush the hell of it, rust convert, and then por 15. Eventually I'll get another car and tear this brat apart and fix all the rust etc.
  2. thanks fox, any thoughts on the vht rust converter, someone said its pointless, but I've heard otherwise.
  3. Heres a pic of my passenger side shock tower, not sure when it happened but one of the bolts is missing its head, and they are pretty rusted... as far most of the underneath of this damn thing... I'm debating using that vht rust converter, because unfortunately I have no metal working skills, no welder, nor a grinder... any idea what size that bolt is? this is the driver side, rust...
  4. Hey man nice Brat. You know any junkyards up in ATL that have subarus? I saw that pull a part has an 89 GL north ATL, and a 88 GL in Augusta.

  5. Thanks guys. Guess I'll hunt down some 6x140 and see about drilling them out, because finding those pugs here in the south is like finding another brat... Its getting harder and harder to keep my Subaru on the road ever since I moved down here to GA from SLC... It seems like no one likes/liked the subarus down here because they are pretty much non existent.
  6. Hey all, I've been reading through this forum for a while now, and have seen some very awesome mods. Right now I have 185/80/13's on my Brat, but I would like to go a bit bigger and wider. I know for 13s your pretty much sol, but are there any rims such as six lugs or later years that are 4 lugs and would fit without having to do any modifications. I have also seen some talk about some custom made adapters. Any tips would be appreciated on this.
  7. Hey I'm still kinda new to this board. I have posted some pics of my brat. Just wondering if anyone on this board is in GA? I live in Columbus, GA.
  8. Yeah once I get another car I want to take out the dash from my brat and fix all the wiring underneath. Its so loose and constantly moves around when I'm driving.
  9. It must have something to do with the wiring under the dash, because sometimes my gauges start rising, seems like its overheating, but then i kick the wires under the dash and the gauges go back to normal. Must be a ground under there loose or something, but now my tail light works again LOL!
  10. My friend and I went offroading with his 4 wheeler, it just barely fit in the back. Just thought I'd post this.
  11. I found the connector there that goes to the whole light unit. It doesn't seem corroded or anything...
  12. Yeah its been a tough journey keeping my old brat on the road. Now my driver side tail light is out, brake lights work fine, replaced bulb, problem still exists. Any tips? Its odd because its only one tail light so I suspect some kind of ground/wiring problem. Anywhere to look in particular?
  13. I found that thread about changing the bushings on the shifter, but it doesn't really say anything about changing bushings on the 4wd lever. My 4wd lever bushings are fine, and from what I can see when I took the rubber boot out and proceeded to drive. The ping noise is coming from the inside of the back of the transmission maybe 5 inches away from where the driver shaft comes out. I don't really see how the shifter can be the piece making the rattling noise because first off it increases with vehicle speed, and then disappears after about 15mph so if it was the shifter why would it stop after 15ph... I think I'm just gonna do the 5spd swap soon...
  14. I don't understand how my gear shifters sloppy bushings causes a tapping noise when I'm not in 4wd. I can shift all gears fine, reverse grinds sometimes but thats 178k for ya... So again how will changing my shift bushings stop this tapping noise...
  15. When I drive at low speeds, basically anything under -20mph there's a tapping noise coming from the transmission when not in 4wd, if i push down on the lever it lessens, the speed of the noise is in cohesion with the speed of the vehicle. When I put it in 4wd it doesn't make the noise at all. It seems to me like the rod or whatever that activates the 4wd is barely touching the piece it goes through. I'm not really sure what I can do about this, but what I'd like to know is if this may ruin my 4wd because it still goes into 4hi-4lo with ease.
  16. My 84 Brat just put on 185/80/r13 tires, 1st Subaru, but definitely not the last. I love taking this damn thing off road, and with the weber carb it gets pretty good MPG.
  17. Yeah it doesn't blow it all, if it did I wouldn't care lol. I just use it to defrost... So if it doesn't blow at all? I saw somewhere there is a fairly large looking relay by the fuse box for this?
  18. I'm driving down the road with the heater on 3 and the fan stops spinning. Besides the obvious fuse check anything else? Where is this thing located anyway because I think I'm going to have to replace the fan...
  19. Anyone know if there are any tires good for off road for the R13. I'm due for some new tires soon, and I don't want to do any mods for other rims etc. So I'm trying to find a good set of tires for off road for my brat, r13...
  20. Yeah. I've done a lot of wire work before, but always hate it... had a celica that had so many wiring issues it was ridiculous, but I basically redid the wiring harness with my on mods and inline fuses just to be done with the ordeal. I hope it maybe just the switch. Anyone know how to maybe wire the lobeams to the battery with an inline fuse and switch?
  21. Yeah I suspect its some stupid wiring problem... FML... this brat just keeps having problem after problem... I guess I'm just going to have to point my headlights more towards the ground and drive with hibeams on all the time. I guess it could be the switch itself?
  22. Well one question I do have is. How do these lights work, because with the hibeam switched on, all four lights turn on. I thought the brats lights were lobeam outer, hibeam inner?
  23. Yeah I'm going to have to pull a head light and see if im getting current when I turn then on, but the thing is I was driving, and I know they were working going home and I turned the car off for maybe ~15min, it was raining very hard and I drove through some deep puddles water got all over the hood so maybe water caused them to fail, but I'll just have to get new head lights.
  24. bump I'm looking at the haynes manual... yeah nothing for relay in here.
